Eydon returns to winning form with Aston Park success
Sent off 16-1 in the hands of Oisin Murphy, Eydon travelled well close to the pace before surging clear for taking length-and-a-quarter success, justifying his connections' patience and booking his ticket to a Group One assignment in France in the process.

Winning trainer Andrew Balding said: 'He's been a project – the Eydon project – and every time we felt we had him right, he has gone wrong and this is the first time we've had six weeks without any problems.
'He's had so many issues at home, just lots of little things and one thing after another, and it was the same for Roger (Varian) when he had him. He showed a really high level of form for Roger, he was fourth in the Guineas and is clearly a very talented horse.
'This was always the aim and we were really keen to get him back on a sound surface and we saw the best of him today. Everyone at home has done a fabulous job to get him here in this form.
'He saw the trip out well today and I think the opportunities are there for him over a mile and a half.
'I haven't spoken to Prince Faisal (owner) yet so I don't want to jump the gun, but I thought something like the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud could work for him which gives us plenty of time, he's a high-class horse so it would be great to give him a chance at the highest level again.'

Bargain buy Two Tribes strikes again in Stewards' Cup at Goodwood
A £30,000 yearling that turned out to be a Classic winner hooked Phil Cunningham into the racing game 20 years ago, and a similarly shrewd purchase gave the owner one of his best days at the track on the final day of Glorious Goodwood. Two Tribes, one of three runners in Cunningham's colours in the Stewards' Cup, picked up the £75,000 first prize in a valuable handicap at Ascot last weekend and added the £125,000 pot for this feature race with an emphatic two-and-a-quarter length defeat of Strike Red. His two stable companions at the Richard Spencer yard crossed the line in fourth and fifth. 'He was a four-grand foal,' Cunningham said. 'That makes it even sweeter.' And better yet for Cunningham, Two Tribes is by the stallion Rajasinghe, who won the 2017 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot for the owner in a course-record time. Cunningham was so frustrated at breeders' lack of interest in Rajasinghe in the early years of his stud career that he announced this year that he would offer his services for free. 'It's massive,' he said. 'We believed in the horse but unfortunately not many others have, so it's great to see him start getting some results. He's still a track-record holder at Royal Ascot, and at three grand [per cover] I couldn't give him away, so in the end, I did give him away. He did 58 covers after we did the free deal and at least I know he's going to have some runners on the track in a couple of years' time. If we hadn't made that decision, he'd have been sub-10.' It was Cockney Rebel, the winner of the 2,000 Guineas in England and Ireland in 2007 and the first horse that Cunningham owned outright, that gave a huge kickstart to his career on the turf nearly two decades ago. The colt is remembered in the name of his Rebel Racing and 'it has just got bigger and bigger' ever since. 'It's my passion and fortunately it's not my job,' Cunningham, the founder and chief executive of an insurance business, added. 'That makes it a bit easier to speculate. We changed the policy [two years ago], this is the second year where we've tried to buy a better quality of horse, spent more money. I wanted to come to days like today, you do get spoiled when you get a taste for it. 'We'll be reinvesting again at the yearling sales this year. We've already got six homebreds to come in as two-year-olds.' Waardah could be a horse to look out for in the last three months of the season after Owen Burrows's lightly raced three-year-old stepped up to a mile-and-three-quarters in ultimately decisive style in the Group Two Lillie Langtry Stakes. Waardah has an entry in the Group One Yorkshire Oaks later this month but the Fillies & Mares event at Ascot on Champions Day in October is a likelier assignment. 'She is in the Yorkshire Oaks, though I think it's important that she gets a little bit of juice in the ground. We will see how she comes out of this, but I think Ascot at the end of the year for the [Group One] Fillies & Mares would be right up her street.'

Waardah steps up to take Lillie Langtry honours
The Owen Burrows-trained filly impressed when landing a 10-furlong Listed event at this venue in early June, but she faced another half a mile and better opposition in this Group Two contest. Ridden by Callum Rodriguez, Waardah was a well supported 7-2 chance at the off and after travelling smoothly into contention early in the home straight, she was coaxed to the front heading inside the final two furlongs. Her stamina was given a thorough examination, with the the gallant Danielle refusing to go down without a fight, but Waardah saw her off and passed the post three-quarters of a length in front. Rodriguez, who was one of five jockeys involved in a dramatic emergency landing on Thursday after the light aircraft in which they were travelling to Goodwood suffered what was thought to have been an engine problem, told ITV Racing: 'It was a messy start to the week, but we made sure that we were on four wheels today! 'I'm very pleased to get that one off my back. She is a rapidly improving filly and has a nice way of racing. It was a very good performance.' Burrows told Racing TV: 'I thought she handled it all very well. Callum said she switched off great and in hindsight he said he probably got there a bit soon, but we're still learning about her because she's inexperienced. 'I thought she was very honest when the second horse came to her, I thought she was possibly going to get outstayed, but in the last half a furlong she was going away again. 'I felt she'd come forward from her last run here, her work at home had been very good, we thought we'd roll the dice and thankfully it's come off. 'She'd have no trouble going back to a mile and a half and she's an exciting filly. She's in the Yorkshire Oaks, I think it is important she gets a bit of juice in the ground. We'll see how she comes out of this, but Ascot in October (Champions Day) would suit her.' Thady Gosden, joint trainer of runner-up Danielle, was delighted with her effort on what was her seasonal bow. He said: 'She is a very genuine filly who gives her all. That was a pleasing race first time back. The winner is a nice filly. Stepping up in trip has benefited her. 'We have been avoiding quicker ground with her but after the rain we had on Thursday, it suited her even though it was drying. 'The Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster would be a natural step with her.'

Al Aasy defends Glorious Stakes title in style
The William Haggas-trained eight-year-old claimed the fifth of his seven Group Three victories to date in this race 12 months ago before going on to land the Geoffrey Freer at Newbury in August and the Gordon Richards Stakes at Sandown on his first start of this season in April. Despite coming up short in two subsequent outings, most recently finishing seventh in the Hardwicke at Royal Ascot, Al Aasy was a 13-8 favourite on his return to the Sussex Downs and after being settled at the rear of the five-strong field for much of the way, he picked up well when asked to go about his business by Jim Crowley to run down his rivals and pull three lengths clear of Meydaan at the line. He's a fabulous horse. He's pretty reliable in this grade when things set up like that. 'They didn't go very fast today and he usually likes a stronger pace and they slow down a bit, but they picked up well up the straight and he still found a gear. He actually ran on strongly today as usually he wins by half a length or a neck. 'He's been called some names in the past and I wish people would respect him for what he is. He's a very talented horse, he just needs to be ridden like that – you need to wait and wait and wait. 'I haven't put him a Group One race and we think at eight years old this is probably his level, Listed and Group Three races and maybe the odd Group Two are fine for him. He's a useful horse. 'He's a very strong traveller, so you can imagine at home when we don't get them off the bridle he looks like Nijinsky every time! He catches the eye every morning, so he's been a joy for us.'
