Eve McMahon makes Irish sailing history by snagging bronze medal at ILCA World Championships in China
McMahon finished third in the women's ILCA 6 event behind Poland's Agata Barwinska, while Louise Cervera of France took gold.
It is the first time an Irish female sailor has medalled at senior world championships.
And Irish Sailing coach Vasilij Zbogar said: 'It was a difficult day with strong winds but Eve made three solid races.
'She is sailing really well and we're looking forward to the days and months of competition ahead.'
Irish Sailing high performance director James O'Callaghan added: 'This is another historic moment for Irish sailing.

Sienna Wright was further back in the field but was able to secure an impressive mid-fleet position in 44th.
Meanwhile, Finn Lynch finished 15th in the ILCA 7 men's event.
The Carlow man bounced back from a poor start on Friday with three top-six results including second in the final race.

Those results moved him to 15th.
Ewan McMahon — who is Eve's brother — finished just four spots behind Lynch in 19th in the large 138- boat event.

Two more medals for Ireland at European U23 Championships in Norway
IRELAND'S ANIKA THOMPSON and Eimear Maher bagged bronze medals to round out a memorable European U23 Championships in Norway. On the final day of competition in Bergen, 10000m champion Thompson climbed the podium again after finishing third in the 5000m and Maher medalled in the 1500m. Maher clocked 4:09.54 as she delivered a tactical masterclass and ran the race of her life in her first track championship for Ireland. Thompson, who became just the second ever Irish athlete to top the podium at the European U23 championships with 10000m glory on Friday, added to her medal haul in the 5000m. She ran 15:56.80, having hit the front early and led until 800m to go. 'I'm really quite tired, but I'm actually really happy,' said Thompson. 'I love having a race where I can give it my all and that was one of the hardest ones I have run, and I just love to leave it out there on the track. 'It's the joy I have of the sport of running, whether I win or lose, the greatest thing is that I'm healthy and I get to do this, I have a big smile on my face. 'My goal today was of course to get the double gold, but If I go for gold and I might end up with a bronze, so always go for the win and see where you end up after that.' Meanwhile, the men's 4x400m squad of Andrew Egan, Callum Baird, Joe Doody and David Mannion clocked a new national U23 record of 3:06.31 as they finished fifth. The women's 4x400m squad broke the national U23 record, clocking 3:34.81, and the men's 4x100m squad went close to doing similar in 39.83. Major championships debutant Anna Gavigan placed eighth in the discus with a best throw of 51.16m. Athletics Ireland heralded this as the most successful U23 European championship ever with five medals won, along with a 14th-place finish on the medal table. Nicola Tuthill (hammer throw silver) and Nick Griggs (5000m silver) were the other Irish medallists.

Watch: Evan Ferguson receives hero's welcome in Rome as Brighton boss confirms loan deal
Brighton and Hove Albion have not ruled out Evan Ferguson returning to the club next year despite loaning the Irish striker to Roma with a €38m purchase option. He struggled for game-time under David Moyes and despite Brighton recently losing João Pedro to Chelsea, the German manager didn't view Ferguson as a reliable option to spearhead their attack when the Premier League season begins on August 16 at home to Fulham. He's allowed him to join the Serie A giants for the season – believed to be based on a loan fee of €3m – with the option available to make the transfer permanent. As Ferguson arrived in the Italian capital to complete the formalities of the switch, Hürzeler provided his reasoning behind the decision, talking up the traits which led to a notional price tag of €100m after he'd scored a Premier League hat-trick against Newcastle United in September 2023. 'For us, it is always important that the individual player has an environment where they can develop,' he said. "We decided the loan was the best option (but) Evan is still a player of us. "He still brings us quality with him. He is a target player and I am sure when he gets more game-time he will one day be back and be an important player for us.' Time will tell whether that's doable as the Italian club have factored in first refusal on his future into the package. Ferguson will work under legendary head coach Gian Piero Gasperini during a pre-season programme that includes friendlies against Aston Villa and Everton in England three days apart in early August. Diego Velazquez digs deep to star in Curragh hat-trick for Ryan Moore and Aidan O'Brien
The son of Frankel, named after a 17th century Spanish painter was winning for the fifth time in his 10-race career, but was tackling the shortest distance he's encountered since making a winning debut over the same course and distance as a two-year-old. The 11/8 favourite for the Group Two event was always in a handy position under Moore alongside Adrian Murray's Irish 1,000 Guineas runner-up California Dreamer. Moore may have been low in the saddle inside the final quarter-mile but he had a willing ally and while several rivals were lining up a furlong from home, it was only David Marnane's 25/1 outsider East Hampton which emerged from to lay down a stern challenge in the closing stages. But Diego Velazquez stuck to his guns and prevailed by a neck from East Hampton at the winning post. 'A mile is probably his trip. We were preparing him for Ascot and we had him in the stalls at Leopardstown, but he got upset and had to be withdrawn (from the Amethyst Stakes) and that upset his Ascot plan,' said O'Brien. 'We'll go back up to a mile now for the Sussex or the Jacques le Marois, something like that. He'll have no problem getting back up to nine furlongs or a mile and a quarter at the end of the season.' The O'Brien-Moore hat-trick was initiated by Sugar Island in the opening juvenile fillies' maiden over seven furlongs. With Moore switching to the daughter of Dubawi following the absence of anticipated favourite Signora, the regally-bred two-year-old was sent off 9/2 and after hitting the front at the furlong pole, she prevailed by half a length from Saint Agatha. O'Brien and Moore added to their tally with Light As Air in the 12-furlong maiden, the 1/2 favourite having previously been seen finishing well down the field in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot. One Look relished a step up in trip when bouncing back to her best in the Curragh's Al Shira'aa Racing Meadow Court Stakes. The four-year-old burst onto the scene at this venue as a two-year-old and has been one of Paddy Twomey's top performers ever since. She began this season in great form, winning the Park Express Stakes at this track before returning to give Porta Fortuna a fright in the Lanwades Stud Stakes, but was disappointing when last seen in the Duke of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot. Sent off at 100/30 for her first try at 10 furlongs, she relished the return to her beloved Curragh and served a reminder of her class in the hands of Wayne Lordan to deliver a decisive length success over Dermot Weld's Azada. 'It was great to come here and win again at the Curragh. She seems to like the Curragh and is a lovely filly,' said Twomey. 'Ascot didn't work out for her, probably on ground quicker than she'd like and a trip as short as she'd want to go. 'She's in the Nassau, she could run here in the Blandford Stakes on Champions Weekend and races on Arc weekend. We'll have a think and pick our spots.' Queen Of The Bogs (8/1) made every yard of the running to land the closing fillies'maiden for John Murphy and Gary Carroll, while Shane Foley steered Jessica Harrington's Lady In Paris (8/1) to success in the 10-furlong handicap.
