Fans to bid farewell to Ozzy Osbourne in Birmingham procession
The Black Sabbath frontman, who played a farewell gig in the city earlier in the month, died at the age of 76 last Tuesday.
The hearse carrying Osbourne will make its way down Broad Street to the Black Sabbath bench and bridge from around 1pm on Wednesday.
His family members are expected to watch the cortege, which will be accompanied by a live brass band.
Fans have left heartfelt messages and floral tributes around the Black Sabbath mural on Navigation Street in recent days to honour the heavy metal star who was born in the Aston area of Birmingham.
Members of the public have also signed a book of condolences, opened by Birmingham Museum And Art Gallery, which is currently holding an exhibition titled Ozzy Osbourne (1948-2025): Working Class Hero.
While organising the procession, Birmingham City Council collaborated with the Osbourne family, who funded all of the associated costs.
The Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Zafar Iqbal, said: 'Ozzy was more than a music legend – he was a son of Birmingham. Having recently been awarded the Freedom of the City and following his celebrated appearance at the Back to the Beginning concert at Villa Park earlier this month, it was important to the city that we support a fitting, dignified tribute ahead of a private family funeral.
'We know how much this moment will mean to his fans. We're proud to host it here with his loving family in the place where it all began, and we are grateful that they have generously offered to pay to enable this to happen and support the city is giving him the farewell he deserves.'
Broad Street will be closed to through traffic from 7am and buses and trams will be diverted during this time before the road re-opens when the event finishes.
Osbourne and his Black Sabbath bandmates – Terence 'Geezer' Butler, Tony Iommi and Bill Ward – were recently given the freedom of the city of Birmingham, which recognises people's exceptional service to the city.
The group, which formed in 1968, are widely credited with defining and popularising the sound of heavy metal.
Osbourne, who also had a successful solo career, found a new legion of fans when he appeared in the noughties reality TV series The Osbournes, starring alongside his wife Sharon and two youngest children, Kelly and Jack.
The music star, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2019, performed his last gig on July 5 in a concert that also saw performances from the likes of Anthrax, Metallica and Guns N' Roses.

Over the years, Aimee hasn't been seen in public with her brother and sister. She is a singer who has released music under the moniker ARO since 2010. However, Aimee has shied away from the limelight around her parents. She is the eldest of the Ozzy and Sharon's kids but famously declined to appear on the family's MTV reality series The Osbournes in the early noughties. The show was an instant hit and propelled her parents and siblings into huge stardom. However, just weeks before his dad's death at the age of 76, Jack opened up about his relationship with Aimee, and said they were "not close at all". Appearing on the Disrespectfully podcast, Jack was quizzed on whether Aimee regretted not taking part in the family's reality series. He admitted: "I've never had the conversation with her, we're not close at all. "We don't have a great relationship, she'll be the first to tell you that, so it's no secret. The Osbournes launched in 2002 and ran for four series' on MTV, following the lives of the late Ozzy Osbourne, his wife Sharon and two of their children - Jack and Kelly. However, Aimee, who is Jack and Kelly's eldest sister, chose not to star in the reality show as she tried to carve out her own career in the music industry. The Black Sabbath rocker died aged 76 on July 22 and his funeral cortege travelled through his hometown of Birmingham, passing thousands of fans who lined the streets. Her brave decision to step into the limelight and pay respects with the world also forced her to put differences aside with her estranged sister Kelly. Kelly and Aimee have had a fraught relationship for years, but were pictured with their devastated mother and brother for the rock legend's send off. In recent years the vastly-different siblings had admitted they weren't on speaking terms, with Kelly saying in an interview they just 'didn't understand each other.' Kelly, who appeared on the Dax Shepard podcast Armchair Expert, revealed in 2021 that she and her older sister had been estranged for a long time. 'We don't talk,' Kelly said. 'We're just really different. She doesn't understand me and I don't understand her.' Meanwhile, back in 2015 Aimee shared with The Independent that her and Kelly were not on close terms. 'I wouldn't say there is an ease between us, but there is an acceptance,' she said. 'Do we socialize? No.' Sharon previously admitted she was devastated when Aimee moved out, saying on The Talk in 2018: 'She felt too that she didn't want to grow up on camera. She hated the idea - it was appalling to her. 'And so she left at 16 and I regret every day that she did. It broke my heart when she moved.' Cooking with the Stars contestant Jack Osbourne spoke about his late dad Ozzy Osbourne on the first episode of the new series, which aired earlier tonight on ITV The late Ozzy Osbourne was mentioned by his son Jack Osbourne during a TV appearance that aired tonight. He spoke about his late father whilst competing on Cooking with the Stars. Jack is among the celebrity contestants on the new series of the ITV show. He competed in the first episode, which aired this evening, just over a week after it was announced that Ozzy had died, aged 76. Speaking about his experience with food growing up, he told host Emma Willis whilst making risotto on the show: "There was a lot of Birdseye Potato Waffles." Following surprise from the presenter, he added: "Because I was here until I was 12 and then we went to America [and] it was all take out." He continued: "We'd go through bouts of having a chef but everyone's such ... very picky eaters so chefs don't usually last long in our house. Because all of a sudden my dad's like 'no, I don't like it anymore' even though it's like some amazing chef." Last week, Jack and some of his family announced that musician Ozzy had died, just weeks after he performed in a farewell gig alongside his band Black Sabbath. Sharon Osbourne and four of Ozzy's children issued a joint statement. It read: "It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis." Jack competed against reality TV star Jess Wright on Cooking with the Stars tonight. The episode also saw former EastEnders cast member Natalie Cassidy take on radio host Jordan North in the kitchen.
