CM Bhupendra Patel transfers over Rs 724 Crore through DBT to more than 13 lakh students of Gujarat
The assistance was provided under four major education schemes--Namo Lakshmi Yojana, Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana Yojana, Mukhyamantri Gyan Sadhana Merit Scholarship Yojana, and Mukhyamantri Gyan Setu Merit Scholarship Yojana--reflecting the state government's technology-driven and transparent approach to the timely delivery of benefits.
The virtual disbursement event, held in Gandhinagar, was attended by Education Minister Dr Kuber Dindor and Minister of State for Education Praful Pansheriya.
Under the guidance of CM Bhupendra Patel, the state government launched Namo Lakshmi Yojana to reduce dropout rates among girls in Classes 9 to 12, provide nutritional support and empower them. The scheme provides annual assistance of Rs 10,000 for female students in Classes 9 and 10, and Rs 15,000 for those in Classes 11 and 12.
With a single click, the Chief Minister disbursed Rs 600 crore through DBT to 10.83 lakh girl students under this initiative. Since its launch, the scheme has resulted in a significant rise in the number of girls regularly attending higher secondary schools, along with a 16 percent increase in female admissions at the higher secondary level. It has also encouraged more students to opt for the science stream, resulting in an 11 per cent rise in science admissions.
To encourage more students to opt for the science stream in Classes 11 and 12 after Class 10, the state government launched Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana Yojana last year under the leadership of CM Patel. The scheme provides financial assistance of Rs 25,000 over two years to science stream students. On Thursday, under this scheme, the CM transferred Rs 52 crore directly into the bank accounts of around 1.53 lakh students through DBT.
As Gujarat progresses toward becoming a hub for semiconductors, green energy, and digital science, the need for a skilled technical workforce is increasing. This scheme plays a vital role in preparing that workforce by encouraging more students to pursue science at the higher secondary level. To further support bright students, the state government, under the guidance of the CM, has also implemented Mukhyamantri Gyan Sadhana Merit Scholarship Yojana and Mukhyamantri Gyan Setu Merit Scholarship Yojana.
Under this scheme, scholarships are awarded to 25,000 bright students of the state who have studied in government or grant-aided primary schools (under RTE) from standard 1 to 8. Under this scheme, on June 24, scholarships worth over Rs 41 crore were distributed to 50,000 students.
The state government provides scholarships to 30,000 deserving students who have completed their education from Standards 1 to 5, helping them secure merit-based admission in Standard 6 in schools of the state. On Thursday, under this scheme, Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel disbursed scholarships worth over Rs 31 crore to 60,000 students through the Direct Benefit system.
So far, over 13 lakh students of Gujarat have received financial assistance of over Rs 594.98 crore under these four schemes at various academic stages. On Tuesday, June 24, CM Patel disbursed over Rs 724 crore through DBT to 13 lakh students under Namo Lakshmi Yojana, Namo Saraswati Gyan Sadhana Yojana, Mukhyamantri Gyan Sadhana Merit Scholarship Yojana, and Mukhyamantri Gyan Setu Merit Scholarship Yojana, taking the total assistance provided by the Education Department under these four schemes to Rs 1,318.98 crore.
Principal Secretary of Education Mukesh Kumar, Additional Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Avantika Singh, Secretary Dr Vikrant Pandey, and other senior education department officials were present during the programme. (ANI)

Adopt tech to overcome labour issues, farmers told
Nellore: Endowments Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy has urged the farmers to adopt scientific technology to overcome the burden of labour in cultivation. The Minister has distributed drone sprayers to four agriculture groups in Chinnabbipuram village of AS Pet mandal on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, Ramanarayana Reddy said that the government has been bringing drastic changes in agriculture sector in the interest of uplifting the living standards of the farmers. The Minister said that at the same time, farmers must utilise the opportunities for securing better profits with less investments in the cultivation. He said the government proposed to offer each drone sprayer which would cost Rs 10 lakh for just Rs 2 lakh by providing Rs 8 lakh subsidy to the agriculture groups to make agriculture a profitable activity. He said that as many as 10 drone sprayers were sanctioned for Atmakuru constituency. Of these, four have been distributed so far. The Minister urged the farmers to utilise the sprayers as it will help them overcome the problem of hiring labour during the peak agriculture season. Earlier, the Minister took part in the Kumbhabikshem of Kodandarama Swamy temple in the village. District agriculture officer P Satya Vani and others were present.

Scientific beekeeping training concludes
Tadepalligudem (West Godavari): A three-day training programme on scientific beekeeping at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) of Dr YSR Horticultural University in Venkatramannagudem concluded recently. The workshop, attended by 20 rural women, youth and farmers, including B Tech (Engineering) graduates, focused on various aspects of apiculture, honey extraction methods, and the prevention of diseases and pests affecting bees. During the training, participants gained insights into the importance of beekeeping, different bee species, suitable varieties for rearing, essential equipment, and establishing a beekeeping enterprise. Comprehensive awareness was provided on precautionary measures, management practices, pest and insect control, by-products of beekeeping, propagation, seasonal hive management, honey collection, storage, and marketing. Dr P Vijayalakshmi from Krishi Vigyan Kendra engagingly explained the process of preserving bee eggs, how worker bees produce honey, and how bee colonies protect themselves. She noted that setting up four bee boxes per acre, along with necessary equipment for honey extraction, costs approximately Rs 25,000. Dr Vijayalakshmi highlighted that beekeeping in vacant spaces within horticultural farms can yield up to Rs 1 lakh per acre annually through by-products such as honey, wax, pollen, royal jelly, and bee venom. She also advised that cool areas with 50% shade are ideal for beekeeping, cautioning against establishing bee colonies near orchards sprayed with strong pesticides, railway tracks, or chemical industries. The programme saw the participation of Krishi Vigyan Kendra staff, including Dr Deepthi, ARYA Nodal Officer, and Dr Devi Vara Prasad Reddy, Scientist (Fisheries).

Bangalore University selected as nodal institution for Prime Minister Professorship programme
Bengaluru: Bangalore University (BU) has been selected as the nodal institution for the 'Prime Minister Professorship' programme under the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF). Through this initiative, accomplished researchers will be appointed to strengthen the research capacity of host institutions and guide faculty and students towards cutting-edge, translational research that aligns with national priorities, said a press release from BU. The selected Prime Minister Professor will be provided a fellowship of Rs 30 lakh per annum and an additional Rs 24 lakh per annum as a research grant. An overhead of Rs 1 lakh per year will also be allocated to the host institution. The tenure of the fellowship is five years.
