Raising of Dhanush 3rd regiment begins
As this newspaper reported in October 2024, going by the tardy delivery of the indigenously produced advanced Bofors gun, Dhanush, for the Indian Army, it will be difficult to meet the March 2026 dateline.
The first gun was inducted in April 2019, and till now, only two regiments have become operational. 'Going by the speed of delivery, it is unlikely that all the guns might be delivered in the remaining time,' sources at the top said.
Sources in the defence establishment said, 'We have completed the process of raising a second regiment of Dhanush gun systems and also receiving a few systems for the third unit.' The overall project involves inducting 114 guns in six regiments. Some delays are expected before all the guns are inducted.
The Dhanush is the country's first indigenously built artillery gun, manufactured by Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWEIL), previously a part of the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB).
The plan was to induct 114 guns with 80% indigenous content by 2026. Its indigenous content makes its maintenance easier in terms of spare parts' availability. One Regiment comprises 18 guns. The cost of each gun is about Rs 14 crore. Dhanush can travel through difficult terrains and target enemy targets day or night.

Patna: With an eye on Bihar Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has intensified efforts to inaugurate and launch several infrastructure and development projects aimed at boosting state's economy. Modi will visit the state on Friday to lay foundation stones, inaugurate and dedicate to the nation multiple development projects worth over Rs 7,200 crore at Motihari. The PM will also address a public meeting in Motihari. During his visit, the Prime Minister will dedicate to the nation multiple rail projects. It includes automatic signalling between Samastipur-Bachhwara rail line that will enable efficient train operations in this section. • Doubling of Darbhanga-Thalwara and Samastipur-Rambhadrapur rail line part of Darbhanga-Samastipur doubling project worth over Rs 580 crore that will enhance the capacity of train operations and reduce delays. • Automatic signalling on Bhatni-Chhapra Gramin rail line (114 km) to enable streamlined train operations. Upgradation of traction system in Bhatni-Chhapra Gramin section to enable higher train speeds by strengthening the traction system infrastructure and optimising energy efficiency. • Darbhanga-Narkatiaganj rail line doubling project worth around Rs 4,080 crore to increase sectional capacity, enable operation of more passenger and freight trains, strengthen connectivity between North Bihar and the rest of the country. Modi will also flag off four new Amrit Bharat trains between Rajendra Nagar Terminal (Patna) to New Delhi, Bapudham Motihari to Delhi (Anand Vihar Terminal), Darbhanga to Lucknow (Gomti Nagar) and Malda Town to Lucknow (Gomti Nagar) via Bhagalpur improving connectivity in the region. The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for 4-laning of Ara bypass of NH-319 that connects Ara-Mohania NH-319 and Patna-Buxar NH-922 providing seamless connectivity and reducing travel time. He will also inaugurate the 4-lane Parariya to Mohania section of NH-319, worth over Rs 820 crore, part of NH-319 which connects Ara Town to NH-02 (Golden Quadrilateral) that will improve freight and passenger movement. Modi is also scheduled to inaugurate New Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) facility at Darbhanga and State of the art Incubation Facility of STPI at Patna for promoting IT/ITES/ESDM Industry and Startups. The PM will inaugurate a series of fisheries development projects sanctioned under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). This will mark the launch of modern fisheries infrastructure including new fish hatcheries, biofloc units, ornamental fish farming, integrated aquaculture units, and fish feed mills across various districts in Bihar. Later in the day, the PM will release Rs 400 crore to around 61,500 Self-Help Groups in Bihar under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojna-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM). With a special focus on women-led development, over 10 crore women have been connected to Self-Help Groups (SHGs).

‘Some victims moving towards suicide': Cyber criminals stole Rs 107 crore in 18 months, Chhattisgarh Home Minister tells Assembly
Cybercriminals defrauded 1,301 people in Chhattisgarh of Rs 107.03 crore between January 2024 and June 2025. In the same period, the police managed to recover only Rs 3.69 crore (3.36%) across 107 cases. These figures were shared by state Home Minister Vijay Sharma in the state Assembly in response to a question by Raipur City BJP MLA Sunil Kumar Soni. Soni said, 'Thousands are being cheated. Some victims are moving towards suicide.' The data presented showed that Raipur alone accounted for Rs 47.57 crore — the highest among Chhattisgarh's 33 districts. It was followed by Bilaspur with Rs 10.20 crore, and Durg with Rs 9.65 crore. 'I believe the amount in Raipur is more than Rs 47.57 crore. Is the police competent to handle cyber crimes? Also, you have said that bank officials are also involved in such crimes — so has any action been taken on them?' Soni asked. In response, Home Minister Sharma said, 'The work of empanelling a cyber expert is underway. But the concept of cyber commandos has been implemented. The cyber police units in each district have received training.' Detailing the steps taken by the government, the Home department said: 'For the prevention of cyber crimes, one state cyber police station and five range cyber police stations are operating at the range level. Cyber cells are also operating at the district level and approval for cyber police stations has been received in some districts.' It added that a cyber forensic lab equipped with modern tools is functional at the police headquarters in Raipur for testing digital evidence collected during investigations. 'For the development of cyber crime research capacity, police officers/employees are being trained from time to time on complex subjects like dark web/crypto currency through the country's prestigious institutions like C-DAC, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel National Police Academy. One gazetted officer and five other officers from the state have been trained under Cyber Commando Scheme to fight cyber crime,' the department said. It also said that SIM cards and IMEI numbers involved in cyber crimes are being blocked, and awareness programmes are being conducted at the state and district levels. On efforts to refund stolen money, the department said: 'The National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) is operated to provide the facility of immediate registration of complaints to the victims of cyber crime. The cyber crime helpline number 1930 is operating 24/7 in the state. Suspicious transactions are put on hold by trained police officers/employees working in the call center by establishing direct coordination with the nodal officers of banks, e-wallets and payment gateways. In the registered cases of cyber crime, the process of refund of money is done as per the orders of the… courts. In the period from January 1, 2024 to June 20, 2025, an amount of Rs 3.69 crore has been successfully refunded to the victims in the state.' Responding to a separate question by BJP MLA from Durg City, Gajendra Yadav, Sharma said, 'In the state, 67,389 complaints have been received on the NCRP (from January 2023 to June 2024). As per the portal, the stolen amount is approximately Rs 791 crore. In this, 21,195 cases have been solved, in which 1,820 victims got their money back.'

Bojjala Sudhir denies role in murder of Jana Sena leader's driver
Srikalahasti MLA Bojjala Sudhir Reddy squarely denied any role in the murder of Jana Sena leader Vinutha Kota's driver Ch. Srinivasulu alias Rayudu, whose body was recovered from Cooum river in Chennai. In the aftermath of the Chennai police arresting Ms. Vinutha and her husband Chandrababu for their alleged role in the murder, the name of Mr. Sudhir Reddy also surfaced, with Ms. Vinutha reportedly blaming him for using her driver as a spy against her to get her personal information. While Chennai police claimed to have extracted the confession of Ms. Vinutha and her husband on their involvement in the murder, it was also rumoured that Mr. Sudhir Reddy had planted the driver as a mole and paid him Rs.30 lakh. Responding to what he termed as 'smear campaign', Mr. Sudhir Reddy told the media that the allegations were baseless and he had no role whatsoever in the murder. He, in turn, blamed the YSRCP of targetting him through their media platforms to 'besmirch him'.
