In 2025, artificial intelligence is taking a decisive leap forward. Not only in how it thinks, but also in how it acts. We are now in the era of AI agents: autonomous systems that don't just analyse data or generate text, but that take action on our behalf. They book travel, manage budgets, file insurance claims, and increasingly, they will operate with little or no human supervision.
Until recently, most AI products functioned as sophisticated advisors. ChatGPT could help you draft an email. Midjourney could create a beautiful image. But the AI itself didn't hit 'send' or post the image to your social media accounts. Now, AI agents can do both - and much more. With access to keyboards, APIs, and payment systems, they will increasingly act directly in the real world. This evolution opens enormous productivity gains, but it also introduces profound new risks.
That is where the emerging field of AI agent verification comes in, led by companies like Conscium. Verifying that an AI agent behaves safely, reliably, and within bounds is becoming as critical as cybersecurity was in the early days of the internet. This isn't just best practice: it's an existential requirement for businesses deploying agents at scale.
Why Verification Matters
Imagine an AI agent tasked with reconciling expenses for a major corporation. It has access to financial records, emails, and approval workflows. If it processes reimbursements too loosely, it could cost the company millions. If it's too strict, it will infuriate employees. Now imagine that agent is just one of thousands deployed by the company across accounting, customer service, and procurement. These are not theoretical risks; they are live, operational questions.
AI agents operate in dynamic environments. They draw on large language models, integrate with enterprise tools, and make decisions based on ambiguous instructions. Unlike traditional software, their behaviour isn't always predictable. This makes conventional testing, like unit tests and manual code reviews, woefully inadequate. What is needed is a new layer of oversight: a way to continuously monitor, simulate, and verify agent behaviour across a range of tasks and scenarios before these agents are let loose.
The Current Gaps
Today, most of the verification work in AI is focused on the foundation models, the LLMs like GPT-4, Claude, and Mistral. These models are tested for bias, hallucination, and prompt injection through a mix of red teaming, sandboxing, and manual evaluation. But the agents built on top of these models are not subject to the same rigour. That's a problem.
Agents don't just generate content. They interpret instructions, make autonomous decisions, and often operate over multiple steps in unpredictable ways. Testing how an agent responds to a prompt is very different from testing how it executes a ten-step financial workflow that includes interactions with both human and other AI agents across multiple platforms. The current testing approaches simply don't address these kinds of complex, real-world scenarios.
What we need is a service that simulates real-world environments, edge cases, and interactions between multiple agents. There's no standardised, repeatable, or automated way to stress-test how an agent behaves in mission-critical settings. And yet companies are deploying these systems rapidly, even in regulated industries like banking, insurance, and healthcare.
The Opportunity
According to a recent report, over half of mid-to-large enterprises already use AI agents in some capacity. Leaders in banking, telecoms, and retail are deploying dozens of agents, and sometimes hundreds. By 2028, we're likely to see billions of AI agents operating globally, with a projected annual growth rate of around 50% until the end of the decade.
This explosion creates a huge demand for verification services. Just as the rise of cloud computing created a multibillion-dollar cybersecurity industry, the rise of AI agents will demand new infrastructure for oversight and assurance. Companies like Conscium aim to be the leaders in this next frontier.
Verification will be particularly crucial in sectors where errors have legal, financial, or health consequences, such as:
Customer Support: If agents can issue refunds, and close accounts, a single misstep can result in regulatory violations or loss of customer trust.
IT Help Desks: If agents are able to resolve tickets, reconfigure systems or revoke access credentials, an incorrect action can cause outages or security risks.
Insurance Claims: If agents can directly approve or deny claims, errors can lead to financial loss, fraud, or regulatory violations.
Healthcare Administration: If agents can update patient records or schedule procedures, mistakes can compromise patient safety and violate privacy laws.
Financial Advisory: If agents can execute trades and adjust portfolios, flawed reasoning or misalignment can lead to costly or unlawful decisions.
These are not just areas of high value: they are areas of high risk. That makes them ripe for verification platforms that can simulate agent behaviour in complex, real-world environments and certify their compliance before deployment.
What Verification Looks Like
Verification by companies like Conscium will not be a single product but a layered solution. It will combine automated testing environments (to simulate workflows), LLM evaluation tools (to inspect reasoning chains), and observability platforms (to track behaviour post-deployment). It will include certification frameworks to give buyers the confidence that their agents meet safety and compliance standards.

These are not just technical hurdles, they are business imperatives. In the near future, any enterprise deploying AI agents without a robust verification layer may face significant legal and reputational exposure.
How Verification will be introduced
The verification market will develop along familiar lines. Direct sales teams will evangelise to the largest enterprises. Channel partners like systems integrators and value-added resellers will build custom integrations. The Hyper-scalers, the cloud providers who offer AI infrastructure at scale, will incorporate verification as part of their platforms.
Just as companies once needed antivirus software, then firewalls, then zero-trust architectures, they will now need 'agent fire drills' and 'autonomy red teams.' Verification will become a board-level concern, and a prerequisite for enterprise-grade deployments.

Defense Department to spend $1 billion on ‘offensive' hacking: What that means—and the major risk involved
The Department of Defense plans to spend $1 billion on 'offensive cyber operations' over the next four years, Tech Crunch reported. The funding comes from a provision tucked into President Donald Trump's massive 940-page One Big Beautiful Bill, which was recently passed and signed into law on July 4. The mega bill also increases overall defense spending from lasy year's fiscal 2024 levels of $873 billion, or 12.9% of the federal budget, per USAFacts a nonprofit initiative to make government data more understandable. According to the report, the bill does not specify what the 'offensive cyber operations' are, or what software would qualify for funding; however, it does stipulate the funding will go to enhancing and improving the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM), based in Hawaii, which is the responsible for defending and promting U.S. interests in the Pacific and Asia, including China. International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), senior cyber advisor Marcus Willet has described offensive cyber operations as those which 'most often entail influencing, misleading or otherwise cognitively affecting a competitor or adversary by, for example, planting false information. But they can also be used for disablement.' Adding,'Offensive cyber operations are of increasing significance in international affairs and bring with them a range of strategic risks.' Democrat Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon, who sits on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence said that the funding comes as the same time the Trump administration has cut other defensive cybersecurity programs—including slashing the staff and budget for the the U.S. cybersecurity agency CISA—which Wyden said has 'left our country wide open to attack by foreign hackers,' according to the report. 'Vastly expanding U.S. government hacking is going to invite retaliation — not just against federal agencies, but also rural hospitals, local governments and private companies who don't stand a chance against nation-state hackers,' Wyden told TechCrunch.

What's bigger than 97% of global economies, total defense spending around the world, and the entire cryptocurrency market? AI chip company Nvidia, writes Forbes' Derek Saul. Last week, the company's valuation hit $4 trillion—it's the first firm to cross that milestone. Nvidia's stock has taken off in the last few years, with its valuation just hitting the $1 trillion mark in 2023. Nvidia owns a whopping 92% of the market for datacenter GPU chips, according to an IoT Analytics report published in January. The company's stock kept on climbing Tuesday morning, hitting a record high with a more than 4% spike after the company said the Trump Administration reversed its decision to ban exports of Nvidia's H20 chip to China. Sale of the chips, which were designed specifically for the Chinese market and had been a top seller for Nvidia, were banned in April. But this growth is about much more than Nvidia, writes Forbes contributor Steven Wolfe Pereira. After all, Nvidia is a hardware company. Investing in hardware is an important first step to developing better and more impactful AI systems, but everything in AI is built on top of it. Consumer prices were up 2.7% in June, according to federal government figures released on Tuesday, a month-over-month increase of 0.3%, and a tenth of a percentage point more than economists' predictions. Many of Trump's new tariffs have not yet been enacted and companies and consumers haven't felt their impact, though an analysis released last week by Yale University found that the new import taxes could increase costs for households by about $2,400. UBS analysts project that tariffs could push inflation to 3.9% by the end of the year, but given the uncertainty and volatility around tariff amounts and effective dates, it's been difficult to assess. However, a Reuters/Ipsos survey in late April found that close to nine in 10 consumers are concerned about inflation this year. There's been more tariff-related turmoil in the last week, with the Trump Administration announcing several new effective dates and rates. Rather than starting last week as was previously announced, the bulk of the tariffs have been pushed to start August 1. And Trump says he's increasing the baseline tariff rate on all nations to 15% to 20%, up from 10%. Tariffs announced on specific countries include a 35% rate on Canada, 30% on the EU and Mexico, 25% on South Korea and Japan, and 50% on Brazil because of the country's ongoing prosecution of former leader Jair Bolsonaro, which Trump called an 'international disgrace.' In the last week, Trump also has floated a potential 200% tariff on pharmaceuticals, a 50% tariff on copper and additional 10% tariffs on BRICS nations, which Trump said is an 'Anti-American' bloc. Foreign leaders denounced the tariff announcements as irresponsible and based on inaccurate information, but many have said they will try to continue negotiating. And even though notes from last month's meeting of the Federal Reserve's Open Market Committee indicated that many on staff feel an interest rate cut is likely to come later this year, the Trump Administration is already starting the formal procedure to replace Fed Chair Jerome Powell, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Bloomberg. Trump has repeatedly—and unsuccessfully—demanded rate cuts from Powell since his inauguration, sometimes with insulting social media posts. Powell's term leading the Fed is set to expire next May. It's mainly a collection of taxation and financial policies, and could have big implications for businesses. It also happens to be 887 pages long, so there's a lot to digest. Forbes' Kelly Phillips Erb delves into some of the benefits that businesses will see under the bill. The 2017 corporate tax cuts from Trump's first administration were already permanent, so the bill did not need to extend them. However, the new law makes the 20% pass-through deduction for LLCs and S-corporations permanent. It also continues tax exclusions for earnings on the sale of 'qualified small business stock' based on the date it was purchased, and brings back 100% deductions on asset depreciation. Forbes contributor Nathan Goldman also highlights how the new law will impact corporate taxation. Businesses can now immediately expense domestic R&D costs, which is retroactive to December 31, 2021, when this benefit last expired. International R&D costs will still be subject to the current amortization rules. The law also brings back Trump's first-term opportunity zones—areas that will bring significant tax deductions if businesses are located there. Under the new law, a third of all opportunity zones must be in rural areas, but the tax incentive is increased to 30% exclusions of deferred gains—up from 10% in the previous administration. The new law also significantly increases the tax credit for businesses to build an on-site child care facility or contract with a qualified provider, writes Forbes ' Danielle Chemtob. Businesses can now offset 40% of qualified child care expenditures up to $500,000, or 50% up to $600,000 in the case of small businesses. The benefit, which used to be 25% of expenses with a maximum of $150,000 annually, was rarely used. Citigroup Looks to Issue Its Own Stablecoin to Smooth Payments
