
Zoho teams up with Cradle, pledges RM44mil to boost local startups
Under the partnership, Zoho will expand its 'Zoho for Startups' program via Cradle's MYStartup single-window platform, an integrated hub that assists startup founders at various stages of their journey.
Malaysia is the second Asean country to gain access to the program, in line with Zoho's global mission to equip startups with the tools and resources needed to launch and scale their ventures.
The partnership aims to strengthen Malaysia's startup ecosystem by providing access to Zoho's comprehensive suite of business applications and fostering innovation among early-stage companies.
Each participating startup will receive credits valid for one year, allowing them the flexibility to explore and adopt tools tailored to their specific operational and growth needs.
Cradle Group chief executive officer Norman Matthieu Vanhaecke said startups tend to grow faster when equipped with the right tools and supported by a conducive ecosystem.
"Our collaboration with Zoho is all about making that happen, giving founders easy access to world-class software solutions that can power their next big leap," he said in a statement today.
"Through the MYStartup Single Window platform, we are not just connecting startups to the right tools and resources-we are opening doors to global opportunities and helping them build with confidence."
Zoho for Startups global head Kuppulakshmi Krishnamoorthy said the program follows a 'pull model', responding to the proactiveness of the startup ecosystem while aligning with Zoho's regional growth strategy.
"Malaysia is steadily focusing on its innovation landscape, strengthened by the support and budget from the government and the new policies in place.
"With the collective experience we have of running the Zoho for Startups program in more than 10 locations across the world, including India, we are poised to make this collaboration as one of the most impactful one for Malaysia," she said.
Since its inception in 2017, the Zoho for Startups program has engaged with over 18,000 startups globally through impactful partnerships with more than 200 incubators, accelerators and startup-enabling organisations.
In Malaysia, this opportunity will be extended to startups with Cradle's expansive ecosystem, which includes companies ranging from early-stage to those that have reached Series B funding.
Promotion of the program will be carried out through various touchpoints, including WhatsApp groups, emails, events and social media to ensure broad visibility and engagement.

'When expatriates or white people ask for suggestions on where to settle down in Malaysia, why are you so eager to recommend your own neighbourhoods or areas that have more locals than foreigners?' she questioned in a post on Threads. She expressed her fears of gentrification if more wealthy foreigners or expatriates begin moving into these residential areas, potentially driving up the cost of living. 'Gentrification is real, you know. It's already happening in Barcelona, Portugal, Budapest and even Bangkok. A closer example is Johor Bahru. 'Don't be too generous to the point that our children and we ourselves end up struggling to live in Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya,' she added. She advised Malaysians to stick to the usual suggestions for expatriates, such as KLCC, Mont Kiara, Bangsar, Desa ParkCity, and Ampang Hilir. Many users agreed with her sentiments, with one user attributing the issue to a culture of 'glorifying' foreigners, which leads some Malaysians to promote their own neighbourhoods. 'The moment they give a little praise, we get swept away by it. They wouldn't care about us if we went to their country anyway,' the user commented. 'Gentrification is happening because our developers are allowed to build unchecked. I wouldn't mind a few expats in my neighbourhood—if the neighbourhood stays the way it is,' another user pointed out. One person shared a similar experience while living in Vietnam, claiming the increased presence of expatriates and foreigners had caused rents and food prices to spike. 'Honestly, we just want to share how great life is in our area—but it's true... once expats move in, property values definitely go up,' another user commented.

High Court orders compulsory winding up of TH Heavy Engineering New Straits Times KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has ordered TH Heavy Engineering Bhd's (THHE) liquidation to proceed under court supervision, following concerns over how the voluntary process was managed. In a landmark decision, only the second of its kind in Malaysian legal history, the court ruled that the voluntary process failed to uphold the interests of creditors, especially independent ones holding the majority of THHE's debt. The consensus among independent creditors—who hold 74.6% of debts—alongside support from parties like NSF Engineering and the lack of opposition, presented a strong case for court-supervised liquidation, Justice Atan Mustapha Yussof Ahmad said in a written judgment. "The breaches of statutory provisions in the voluntary liquidation process, conflicts of interest of the interim liquidators, questionable circumstances surrounding the voluntary liquidation, and the compelling need for independent investigation all point inexorably to the conclusion that compulsory liquidation under court supervision is necessary," Atan said. The judge outlined the basis for granting the petition by Global Mariner Offshore Services Sdn Bhd (GMOS) and two other creditors under Sections 464(1) and (2) of the Companies Act 2016, including the appointment of independent liquidators. THHE was incorporated on Nov 18, 2003 under the Companies Act 1965, and was formerly known as Ramunia Holdings Berhad. The company was previously a public company listed on Bursa Malaysia, involved in the business of fabrication of oil and gas structures, construction services and management services. On April 28, 2017, THHE was classified as a PN17 affected listed issuer. Despite being granted eight extensions over a period of five years, THHE failed to submit an acceptable regularisation plan to address its PN17 status. Consequently, on 5 May, 2022, THHE was delisted by Bursa Malaysia. THHE's majority shareholder is Urusharta Jamaah Sdn Bhd (UJSB), a Finance Ministry-owned entity set up in 2010 to take over assets from Lembaga Tabung Haji. The court ordered THHE be wound up by the court under Section 464(1) of the CA 2016. It also ordered Lim Tian Huat and Chiang Teng Guan to be appointed as joint and several liquidators of THHE.

Among the BtB 4.0 programmes that Usanita will implement is a traditional Malaysian heritage fashion showcase in conjunction with Malaysia Day celebrations in Wellington this September.
