Brisbane hotel workers walk off the job to protest over Zionist event
The State Zionist Council of Queensland booked space at The Wickham, a well-known Fortitude Valley LGBTIQ+ hotel, to host a 'White Shavuot Party' celebrating the Jewish festival, which started on Sunday.
It prompted a snap protest of about 150 people – including on-duty Wickham staff and performers – outside the venue. Staff who remained on the job supported their colleagues with free pizza and water bottles.
The protest was organised by local activist group Magandjin People's Pride, from which comment has been sought.
Comment has also been sought from The Wickham Hotel and its head office at the Australian Venue Co, while the State Zionist Council of Queensland directed queries to the national body.
Queensland Jewish Board of Deputies president Jason Steinberg said the protest made Jewish people feel less safe in Brisbane.
'The events of last night really have reached a new low in terms of anti-Semitism in Queensland,' he said.
'What we saw was a rabid mob intimidating Jewish people in a way that we have not seen before in Queensland – and it's unacceptable.'

Former ABC employee slams broadcast for ‘agenda-driven' reporting
Former ABC employee Elahn Zetlin publicly criticises the national broadcaster's editorial direction with claims he felt forced to leave due to persistent bias and a lack of accountability. 'It wasn't good enough … the way they were reporting on the conflict and also who they were giving a platform to locally to give comment about real issues that affected the broader Jewish community,' Mr Zetlin told Sky News Host Sharri Markson. 'The language used, the way of pushing an agenda… it was really black and white reporting. 'The concerns that I raised … it felt to me that it just dismissed, justified, swept under the carpet.'

‘Starving Jewish hostages to death': Protestors slammed for supporting Hamas' motive
Sky News host Andrew Bolt says the pro-Palestine protest on Sydney's Harbour Bridge was a 'national shame' and a 'sign of moral decline'. This comes after Hamas released footage of an Israeli hostage being held captive in Gaza, digging his own grave. 'The terrorist holding him still underground in Gaza, claim this hostage is just being fed what they themselves have to eat, which is plainly false,' Mr Bolt said. 'Hamas is deliberately starving Jewish hostages to death.' Warning: Distressing footage.

‘March against Israel': Sydney protestors used Harbour Bridge as a ‘symbol of hate'
Zionist Federation of Australia CEO Alon Cassuto says the Jewish community is 'shaken up' after seeing the 'glorification of terrorism' from the pro-Palestine protest on Sydney's Harbour Bridge. 'This so-called march for humanity, which was promoted as a peaceful demonstration, was anything but,' Mr Cassuto told Sky News host Steve Price. 'These images are not about peace. 'If these people wanted peace, then they'd stand side by side with Jews and Palestinians. 'This was a march against Israel… this was not a march for peace.'
