Snag On Air India Delhi-US Flight, It Is Cancelled During Fuel Stop In Vienna
Flight AI 103, which took off at 12.45am on Wednesday and was scheduled to reach Washington at 8.45pm on Thursday, was cancelled in Vienna and all the passengers were rebooked on alternative flights to Delhi.
Alternatively, the passengers were offered full refunds based on their preferences, an airline spokesperson said.
The developments, according to the spokesperson, came as the aircraft made a "planned fuel stop" in Vienna.
"During routine aircraft checks, an extended maintenance task was identified, which required rectification before the next flight and, thus, additional time for completion," the spokesperson said.
"Due to this, the Vienna to Washington, DC leg was cancelled, and passengers were disembarked... Consequently, flight AI104 from Washington, DC to Delhi via Vienna was also cancelled, and the affected passengers have been rebooked on alternative flights to Delhi or offered full refunds based on their preferences," the spokesperson added.
On June 14, a Vienna-bound Air India flight lost altitude soon after it took off from Delhi - the plane dropped 900 feet mid-air. Both pilots have now been off-rostered pending the outcome of the investigation, the airline said. The incident happened two days after a London-bound Air India plane crashed seconds after it took off from Ahmedabad airport.

NEW DELHI: The travel to Jaipur from Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida and Faridabad has become shorter and faster with the NHAI on Wednesday opening a link road — Bandikui-Jaipur — from the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. This will reduce travel time from Delhi to 2.5-3 hours compared to the current 3.5-4 hours. The link takes off at Bandikui, 170 km from Sohna — from where the expressway starts. NHAI officials said as safety audit has been completed, traffic is being allowed on the link road as trial. In the next few days, all systems will be in place and tolling will also start, they said. To reach Jaipur, commuters earlier had to leave the expressway at Dausa and take NH-21 — it took at least one and half hours to cover the stretch as it passes through villages and towns. 'Now, people can seamlessly get out of the expressway and take the Bandikui-Jaipur spur, which is a 67-km four-lane access-controlled highway. The maximum allowed speed on this link for cars is 100-120 kmph. Enough signage has been put up to inform and guide commuters,' said an NHAI official. People heading from Ghaziabad, Noida and East Delhi will be able to travel to Jaipur seamlessly. The entire stretch of 260 km between the DND flyway and Jaipur via the Bandikui link can be completed in two-and-a-half hours.

Tokyo/Hong Kong: Viral rumours of impending disaster stemming from a comic book prediction have taken the sheen off Japan's tourism boom, with some airlines cancelling flights from Hong Kong where passengers numbers have plunged. Japan has seen record numbers of visitors this year, with April setting an all-time monthly high of 3.9 million travellers. That dipped in May, however, with arrivals from Hong Kong - the superstitious Chinese-controlled city where the rumours have circulated widely - down 11% year-on-year, according to the latest data. Steve Huen of Hong Kong-based travel agency EGL Tours blamed a flurry of social media predictions tied to a manga that depicts a dream of a massive earthquake and tsunami hitting Japan and neighbouring countries in July 2025. "The rumours have had a significant impact," said Huen, adding that his firm had seen its Japan-related business halve. Discounts and the introduction of earthquake insurance had "prevented Japan-bound travel from dropping to zero," he added. Hong Kong resident Branden Choi, 28, said he was a frequent traveller to Japan but was hesitant to visit the country during July and August due to the manga prediction.
