Teenager Andreeva marches into Wimbledon last 16
Baptiste 6-1 6-3 under the Court One roof to equal her best Wimbledon run by reaching the last 16 on Saturday.
In a first week littered with fallen seeds, 18-year-old Andreeva has made reaching the business end of the tournament look like a breeze and is yet to drop a set.
She has reached the third round of the doubles too with partner Diana Shnaider, also without losing a set.
The Russian's clean hitting proved too much for 55th-ranked Baptiste who has enjoyed an impressive Wimbledon main draw debut, having reached the fourth round at Roland Garros.
"Honestly, today I was so focused today," Andreeva, who is coached by former champion Conchita Martinez, said.
"I watched her first round and I knew it would be tough because she creates a lot of different stuff on the court and has a rocket of a forehand.
"With every match I play I feel my level is rising."
Three service breaks delivered a one-sided first set in 31 minutes but Baptiste loosened up in the second and produced eye-catching tennis of her own, especially off the forehand which often had Andreeva at full stretch.
Had she taken any of the five break points she had when trailing 4-2 things could have got interesting but Andreeva held on, letting out a yell that echoed around the arena.
Andreeva, the highest seed left in the bottom half of the draw, wrapped up victory two games later and will next meet either defending champion Barbora Krejcikova or American 10th seed Emma Navarro.

SILVERSTONE, England :The top three Formula One drivers in Sunday's British Grand Prix will have to handle their trophies with care during the podium celebrations or risk ending up with a pile of LEGO toy bricks. The novel trophies are part of a multi-year partnership between LEGO and Formula One that has already put drivers in a fleet of 10 brick-built cars for a pre-race parade at the Miami Grand Prix, a moment that went viral. Sunday's race marked 75 years of the championship at the Silverstone circuit where it started in 1950 and the winner's gold-adorned LEGO trophy, modelled on the real RAC golden trophy, is made of 2,717 bricks. It weighs more than 2kg and is more than 59cm high. The second and third-placed trophies are white with red and blue detailing respectively, while the constructors' is dark blue and gold. "We wanted to create something very special because it's the 75th anniversary," LEGO's chief product and marketing officer Julia Goldin told Reuters. The blocks are stuck together with glue, and took seven builders 210 hours to create in Denmark. Goldin said breakages would not be the end of the world. McLaren's Lando Norris did just that in Hungary with a special porcelain trophy in 2023. "If he smashes the trophy it will fall apart into thousands of beautiful bricks," said Goldin. "And then we can rebuild it. Because that's the whole point of LEGO bricks. "You can create amazing things and then you can rebuild them. I just want the drivers to be happy and whatever they do is fine." NEW AUDIENCES Formula One is reaching out to a new demographic, and particularly a younger audience, with considerable success and has found partners in previously untapped areas. That includes deals with Mattel's Hot Wheels toy cars, a 2026 collaboration with Disney's Mickey & Friends and LEGO announced last year. Emily Prazer, Formula One's chief commercial officer, rejected any suggestion of the sport "dumbing down" and said the strategy was to make brands more accessible and reach out to those who may never go to a race. "LEGO puts us in nearly every shopping mall in the world," she told Reuters. "Disney helps us appeal to the next generation of fan. Hot Wheels and Mattel allow for kids to actually play with the cars at home." Goldin said LEGO also appealed to more and more adults and had products that were intriguing to people with all kinds of interests. "The same is happening with F1 and there is a real benefit of how the sport is able to engage different people with different interests and different elements of the sport," she said.

Fritz through to Wimbledon quarter-finals after injured Thompson retires
LONDON :American fifth seed Taylor Fritz had little trouble in reaching his third Wimbledon quarter-final after his Australian opponent Jordan Thompson retired with a thigh injury at 6-1 3-0 down in their fourth-round meeting on Sunday. Thompson, who came to the All England Club with a back issue, called for a medical timeout midway through the second set due to an apparent right thigh problem and after three more points decided to call it a day. Fritz raced through the first set, hardly breaking sweat against his exhausted opponent who had played five-set matches in the first and second rounds and four sets in the previous round. As the rain began hammering down on the Court One roof, so Fritz began raining down his serve, clinching the first set off the back of three aces. The American is ace king at Wimbledon so far with 79, 14 ahead of the next best - Chilean Nicolas Jarry. Fritz broke Thompson easily in the opening game of the second and it was clear the Australian was struggling with his movement. The medical timeout after Fritz clinched another break only delayed the inevitable as the match was soon brought to a premature end. "Not the way I wanted to go through, I was excited to play Jordan today, I was excited to play good tennis," Fritz said. "It's sad ... he's been battling out here, playing five-setters, I respect him for coming out ... I feel bad for him and I hope he gets better." The 27-year-old Fritz, who reached his maiden Grand Slam final last year at the U.S. Open, continues chasing America's dream of a first male winner at Wimbledon since Pete Sampras in 2000 when he next faces 17th-seeded Russian Karen Khachanov. Arsenal sign Spain midfielder Zubimendi from Real Sociedad
Arsenal have signed defensive midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad on a long-term contract, the Premier League club said on Sunday as the club reinforced a key position weakened by departures last month.
