Tribune News Network Doha French anti-fraud authorities said on Tuesday they have ordered US electric car giant Tesla's local subsidiary to stop 'deceptive commercial practices' after an investigation found several violations harmful to consumers and contrary to law. The fraud prevention and consumer protection agency (DGCCRF) said its agents investigated Tesla's French subsidiary between 2023 and 2024 after reports were filed on a consumer complaint platform. The probe revealed 'deceptive commercial practices regarding the fully autonomous driving capabilities of Tesla vehicles, the availability of certain options and vehicle trade-in offers', it said. The agency also cited delays in refunding cancelled orders, a lack of information on the location of deliveries and incomplete sales contracts, among other violations. Tesla was given four months to comply with regulations. It faces a daily fine of 50,000 euros ($58,000) if it fails to stop deceptive commercial practices over the fully autonomous driving option of certain Tesla models. Tesla did not immediately respond to an AFP request for comment. Tesla sales have tanked in Europe in recent months owing to an ageing fleet of cars, rising competition and consumer distaste for Elon Musk's role in US President Donald Trump's administration. Tesla has completed its first fully autonomous car delivery, with a Model Y driving itself from the company's Texas factory to a customer's home. Tribune News Network Doha The outgoing Ambassador of Bangladesh to Qatar, HE Nazrul Islam, acknowledged that farewells remain emotionally difficult even after 31 years of diplomatic service. He spoke candidly about the personal connections he formed in Qatar, crediting the country's warmth and the vibrant camaraderie of the South Asian diaspora for making him feel at home, despite being away from his own family. The ambassador's spouse currently serves as the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Canada, while their children also live overseas — allowing him to dedicate himself fully to his responsibilities in Qatar. Ambassador Nazrul Islam was speaking at a farewell breakfast reception hosted by the Pakistani community as part of its Culinary Diplomacy Forum Series at Sarhad Premium Restaurant. The event brought together diplomats, dignitaries and leaders from the Pakistani and Bangladeshi communities to celebrate his tenure and bid him farewell, as he prepares to assume his new post as Bangladesh's Ambassador to Russia. Coordinated by veteran journalist Ashraf Siddiqui with the support of Pakistani community leaders, the gathering featured tributes and expressions of appreciation. Ambassador Islam thanked Siddiqui and the organising team for their hospitality, describing such events as important opportunities to strengthen goodwill and cross-community friendship. Earlier, Ashraf Siddiqui welcomed guests and thanked the ambassadors, dignitaries, and leaders of the Pakistani and Bangladeshi communities for their presence. He described Qatar as small in size but diplomatically significant, highlighting the vital role of over 430,000 Bangladeshi workers in supporting the country's economy and infrastructure. During his tenure, the Embassy prioritised expanding ties beyond traditional labour exports. Cultural diplomacy—including Bangladeshi art exhibitions and performances—helped introduce Qatari audiences to Bangladesh's rich heritage. The event also featured remarks by Osama bin Javaid, a senior journalist with Al Jazeera known for his reporting from conflict zones. He reflected on the resilience of people affected by war and emphasised the importance of gatherings like the Culinary Diplomacy Forum in fostering mutual also stressed the urgency of addressing climate change—describing it as an even greater threat than conflict—and called for collaboration among business and community leaders to confront shared challenges.

TRIBUNE NEWS NETWORK doha The Commercial Bank P.S.Q.C., rated A2 by Moody's, A- by S&P and A by Fitch with stable outlook, successfully issued a 3-year tenor, QAR 500 million Senior-Unsecured Bonds with a coupon of 4.90%. The Bonds were issued under its EMTN programme and are listed on the Euronext Dublin. The successful completion of this transaction underscores the robustness of the Qatari economy and CBQ's strong credit fundamentals. The issuance is the largest local currency bond issuance to date by a Financial Institution in Qatar, reaffirming CBQ's standing as a leading financial institution in the region with strong presence in the domestic and international capital markets. DBS Bank and Standard Chartered Bank acted as the Joint Lead Managers to the issuances. Joseph Abraham, Group Chief Executive Officer of Commercial Bank said: 'This initiative reaffirms Commercial Bank's leadership in bringing new instruments to our local and international institutional and retail investor bases. The strong investor response reaffirms the confidence in the Bank and the State of Qatar and credit ratings reflect our proactivity in risk management and robust liquidity; both of which are integral to executing our corporate strategic vision.'
