Sarah Jessica Parker shares ‘sad' Sex and the City update and fans are 'in tears'
Sarah Jessica Parker has shared an emotional statement about Sex and the City's (SATC) after the announcement that its spinoff, And Just Like That..., will be ending after three seasons. The 60-year-old actress, who played Carrie Bradshaw in the original SATC series and movies, took to Instagram on Friday, 1 August, after showrunner Michael Patrick King announced the spin-off series was ending, with its upcoming two-part finale yet to air.
In her Instagram post, Carrie shared a montage of photos from her time playing the protagonist on the show. In the post, she said: 'She crossed streets, avenues, rubicons, so it seemed. She broke hearts, heels, habits. She loved, lost, won, tripped, leaped, fell short, and into puddles. Aged, got wiser. She has made the hardest, worst, and best decisions. Traveled near and far, for the new, the vintage, friends, and love.'
She continued to pay tribute to Carrie's iconic moments on SATC and And Just Like That..., mentioning all the things her character had been known for doing. 'Changed homes, time zones, boyfriends, her mind, her shoes, her hair, but never her love and devotion to New York City,' Parker said.
'She had dates, drinks, boyfriends, a husband, and truly great loves and romances. She hailed cabs, she ran in heels, and danced with Stanford. She told the truth and she lied. She typed, wondered, wrote, published, grieved, forgave. Got stood up, stood strong, stood out.
"She devoted herself to hats, books, shoes, friends and the promise of a new day in her beloved city and the people she treasured most. She has worn shame, pride, honor, optimism and literally countless dresses, skirts, tutus.
"Held onto hands, hopes and the very best of people. Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte, there will never be better friends and what great fortune for Carrie to come to know and love Seema and LTW, most divine new connections.'
Parker also acknowledged how Carrie shaped her career, noting that the character had 'dominated [her] professional heartbeat for 27 years.'
'I think I have loved her most of all. I know others have loved her just as I have. Been frustrated, condemned, and rooted for her,' the actor added. 'The symphony of all those emotions has been the greatest soundtrack and most consequential companion. Therefore, the most sentimental and profound gratitude and lifetime of debt.'
She concluded by expressing her gratitude to the fans of the franchise and her colleagues on the SATC spinoff.
"And Just Like That...was all joy, adventure, the greatest kind of hard work alongside the most extraordinary talent of 380 that includes all the brilliant actors who joined us," she said. "I am better for every single day I spent with you. It will be forever before I forget. The whole thing. Thank you all,' she wrote. 'I love you so."
Fans quickly rushed to the comments to praise the actress for her contribution to SATC, with many being moved to tears with her goodbye to the character.
One person wrote: "I don't want to let go… Just give us the last season.. I am not READY TO SAY GOODBYE."
"I am not ready to say goodbye. I will miss you a lot a lot. This show has been therapy for me. Thank you. Love you," a second fan wrote. A third person also said: "I need a drink," along with a crying emoji.
"Damn. Thank you for being such a huge portion of my life! SATC and AJLT will forever remain." Meanwhile, a fourth person simply wrote: "FABULOUS!!"
