"Under the plan, all the ULBs will set up monsoon-specific control rooms, which will operate on a 24/7 basis during the season, to promptly address public grievances related to waterlogging, blocked roads, and water supply disruptions," the urban development department official said.
These ULBs are also asked to involve the community in the waterlogging situation, he said.
Live Events
According to the action plan, elected representatives, ward committees, local volunteers, and women self-help groups (WSHGs) will be engaged in local-level preparedness and response activities.
The department has plans to hold a high-level inter-departmental coordination meeting before the first week of June 2025, involving fire services, drainage division, minor irrigation and other stakeholders to streamline efforts and ensure resource readiness.
Minister for Housing & Urban Development KC Mahapatra said: "Proactive planning and community participation are the cornerstones of our strategy. Our goal is to ensure that urban areas remain resilient, safe, and prepared for the challenges of an intense monsoon."

Rakkasakoppa reservoir in Belagavi nears full mark, two gates opened
Pic: Rakkasakoppa reservoir is filling up fast Belagavi: The Rakkasakoppa reservoir, one of the major sources of drinking water for Belagavi city, was almost full on Friday. The present water level of the dam crossed 2,475 feet out of the maximum level of 2,478 feet. There is a fear that the reservoir will not hold the water at peak level. Consequently, two gates of the reservoir have been opened to regulate water levels. The Rakkasakoppa reservoir, built on the Markandeya River, has a water storage capacity of 0.695 tmcft. However, due to the accumulation of silt, it can currently store up to 0.569 tmcft of water. The Rakkasakoppa reservoir is now being used solely to supply clean drinking water to Belagavi city. More than 85,000 water taps have been assembled in 58 wards of Belagavi city, and L&T Company has been entrusted with the responsibility of water supply. Belagavi city faces water shortages, with water being supplied once every 6-10 days in some areas during the summer season. Belagavi, with a population of 7 lakh, needs 130-135 million litres per day (MLD) of water daily, with both Rakkasakoppa and Hidkal reservoirs contributing. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Gentle Japanese hair growth method for men and women's scalp Hair's Rich Learn More Undo Every day, 45-50 MLD of water from the Rakkasakoppa reservoir and 82 MLD of water from the Hidkal reservoir are used to supply drinking water to Belagavi city and surrounding villages, including the industrial area. Ravikumar, a manager at L&T, said that this year, as of May, the water level in Rakkasakoppa was critically low due to intense heat waves. The dam can hold water up to 2,478 feet level of the dam. As this is an old dam, the storage capacity has reduced due to silt. There is a fear that the reservoir will not hold the water at peak level. Two gates have been opened, and excess water is being released into the river. The reservoir water can be used for 180 days or six months without any trouble. The Hidkal reservoir, also known as the Raja LakhamaGouda Jalashaya, has a storage capacity of 51 tmcft and, as of Friday, holds 35 tmcft of water. The inflow to the reservoir from the Ghataprabha River has increased. The Malaprabha (Renuka Sagar) reservoir, which supplies drinking water to several cities including Savadatti, Bailhongal, Ramdurg, Hubballi-Dharwad, and Gadag, has a storage capacity of 37.7 tmcft of water. As of Friday, 16.6 tmcft of water was stored in the reservoir. The inflow into the Renuka Sagar reservoir from the Malaprabha River has also increased. Due to torrential rains, reservoirs in the Belagavi district are filling up, and the water crisis has subsided.

Multiple deaths reported in Texas, rescue efforts underway as flash flooding threatens communities
Multiple deaths have been reported in Texas after heavy rain caused flash flooding of a river, while search teams used boats to conduct rescues Friday as fast-moving water threatened riverfront communities near wildlife habitats and campgrounds. As much as 10 inches (25 centimeters) of heavy rain fell in just a few hours overnight in central Kerr County, causing flash flooding of the Guadalupe River. The Kerr County sheriff's office confirmed fatalities but did not provide additional details. A flood watch issued Thursday afternoon estimated isolated amounts up to seven inches. That shifted to a flood warning for at least 30,000 people overnight. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Top 25 Most Beautiful Women In The World Articles Vally Undo Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said the state was providing resources to Hill Country communities dealing with the flooding, including Kerrville, Ingram and Hunt. "I urge Texans to heed guidance from state and local officials and monitor local forecasts to avoid driving into flooded areas," Abbott said in a statement. Live Events The Guadalupe's river gauge at the unincorporated community of Hunt, where the river forks, recorded a 22 foot rise (6.7 meters) in just about two hours, according to Bob Fogarty, meteorologist with the National Weather Service's Austin/San Antonio office. Fogarty said the gauge failed after recording a level of 29 and a half feet (9 meters). "We think the river's higher than that," Fogarty said. "The gauge is completely underwater." The riverfront communities include several camps, wildlife habitats and campgrounds. Texas Game Wardens, part of the state parks and wildlife agency, said on Facebook that search and rescue teams are conducting rescues throughout the region and sending more boats to help. "This is the kind of thing that will catch you unaware," Fogarty said. "The water's moving so fast, you're not going to recognize how bad it is until it's on top of you." Meanwhile, strong thunderstorms were being blamed for at least three deaths in central New Jersey, including two men in Plainfield who died after a tree fell onto a vehicle they were traveling in during the height of a storm there, according to a city Facebook post. The men were ages 79 and 25, officials said. They were not immediately publicly identified. "Our hearts are heavy today," Mayor Adrian O. Mapp said in a statement. "This tragedy is a sobering reminder of the power of nature and the fragility of life." The city canceled its planned July Fourth parade, concert and fireworks show. Mapp said the "devastating" storms had left "deep scars and widespread damage" in the community of more than 54,000 people and it was a time to "regroup and focus all of our energy on recovery." Continuing power outages and downed trees were reported Friday throughout southern New England, where some communities received large amounts of hail. There were reports of cars skidding off the road in northeastern Connecticut.
