N. Korea calls for loyalty to its leader on founder's death anniversary
"Everyone should join in advancing the dignity and might of our invincible state, the great Korea of Kim Jong-un, by upholding the party's revolutionary ideology as the highest priority and dedicating themselves to the struggle for the prosperity of our-style socialism," the Rodong Sinmun newspaper reported.
The newspaper said the country's defense capabilities are advancing significantly beyond limits, adding that this lends credence to the party's vision of making the country the most powerful and wealthy.
The report came as North Korea on Tuesday marked the 31st anniversary of the death of state founder Kim Il-sung, who died on July 8, 1994.
On the day of the anniversary, Kim Jong-un visited the family mausoleum, the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, and paid tribute to the late state founder, accompanied by key party officials.
The Korean Central News Agency also reported Wednesday that North Koreans across the country mourned the state founder "with the most solemn heart."
Flags were lowered to half-mast nationwide, as mourners visited the mausoleum in Pyongyang where his body lies, as well as his statue on Mansudae Hill in the capital. Various mourning events were also held to commemorate his achievements, the KCNA said. (Yonhap)

N. Korean leader visits fish farm under construction, urges regional economic development
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has inspected the construction site of an offshore fish farm in South Hamgyong Province, stressing the importance of regional economic development, state media reported Monday. Kim visited the construction site of the Ragwon County Offshore Farm the previous day, accompanied by key party officials, according to the Korean Central News Agency. The North's leader attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Ragwon fish farm in February. It marks the North's second offshore fish farm after the one built in December last year in the eastern coastal city of Sinpho. Kim called the construction of offshore farms a "strategic creation work" to fundamentally strengthen and develop the regional economy, according to the KCNA. "The construction of modern offshore farm ... is an innovative creation field to reliably guarantee the efficient rejuvenation and long-term development of more than 60 coastal cities and counties across the country," Kim was quoted as saying by the KCNA. He called for accelerating the construction in an apparent bid to tout the completion of a new fish farm as one of the key achievements ahead of the 80th founding anniversary of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea in October. Kim has focused on developing the regional economy in a bid to enhance people's livelihoods amid worsening public sentiment caused by deepening economic difficulties. (Yonhap)

N. Korea bristles at S. Korea-U.S.-Japan air drills
North Korea on Sunday blasted recent combined air drills conducted by South Korea, the United States and Japan, saying such joint military actions are "the main danger factors heightening the level of the military tension" on the Korean Peninsula and its surrounding region. "We express serious concern over their hostile acts of persistently conducting provocative and threatening military actions while deliberately ignoring the security concern of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and strongly warn of the grave consequences to be entailed by them on the regional situation," the head of the North Korean defense ministry's policy office said in a statement released through the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA). The statement referred to North Korea by its official name. On Friday, Seoul's defense ministry said the three nations had held the air drills over international waters off the southern South Korean island of Jeju and involved at least one U.S. B-52H bomber -- the strategic bomber's first deployment near the Korean Peninsula this year. The North Korean official also charged that the tripartite military alliance has "completely changed into a nuclear-based triangular military alliance." "Irresponsible acts of the US, Japan and the ROK (South Korea) steadily heightening the level of tension and danger on the Korean peninsula should be closely watched and deterred," the North's statement added. "It is our just sovereign right to take countermeasures against provocative military actions such as the moves to strengthen the multilateral military alliance threatening the security of the region and the joint military drills with clear aggressive character."
