Socialism Won't ‘Go South'

Matthew Hennessey writes that capitalism allows human nature's self-interest to flourish to everyone's benefit ('Capitalism Needs Champions,' July 1). The system fosters competition and efficiency. Mr. Hennessey adds: 'I'd like to hear Mr. Mamdani explain how he plans to keep New Yorkers captive when his experiment goes south.'
Capital is mobile, and we Southerners have watched it flow here for years, searching for better tax climes and politicians who respect businesses. Many economic failures exist in the North or out West in liberal bastions. Perhaps it's time to update that unfortunate phrase.

US Stocks Drift From Records as Trump Ramps Up Tariff Threats

US stocks extended declines Monday to fall further from records, as President Donald Trump's latest salvo of tariff threats for Europe and Mexico kept investors on edge as corporate earnings season kicks off this week. The S&P 500 Index slipped 0.3% as of 9:45 a.m. in New York, after snapping a two week winning streak. That left the equities benchmark less than 0.5% from its July 10 record after climbing above the psychologically important 6,200 level. The Nasdaq 100 Index fell less than 0.4%. A basket tracking so-called Magnificent Seven stocks including Apple Inc., Alphabet Inc. and Meta Platforms Inc. is down 0.3%.

Apple-owned brand Beats has built its reputation on delivering quality across its offerings, and the Beats Solo 4 headphones are no exception. Right now, Amazon is running a flash sale on the Beats Solo 4, just days after Prime Day, and it offers these wireless on-ear headphones at an all-time low price: For $97, down from the regular $200, you're getting a massive 51% discount. See at Amazon The lack of active noise cancellation or personalized spatial audio might be a drawback for some, but the Bose Solo 4 more than makes up for it with excellent sound and phenomenal battery life. For less than $100, it's hard to think of a better balance of performance, comfort and brand reliability – especially from an institution with Apple's track record. The Solo 4 is designed for seamless compatibility with both Apple and Android devices, which makes it a great choice regardless of your smartphone ecosystem. Pairing is quick and effortless and the connection remains stable thanks to Bluetooth technology. The headphones are lightweight and feature plush ear cushions that provide comfort even during long listening sessions. What's probably most impressive about the Beats Solo 4 is the battery life: A whopping 50 hours of playback on a single charge sees these headphones outlast most in their price range with ease. And if you do find yourself low on battery, a quick charge feature gives you hours of use from minutes of being plugged in so you can stay connected to your tunes throughout the day. Audio performance is another area the Beats Solo 4 is exceptional: The headphones deliver punchy bass, crisp mids, and clear highs that cater to a wide variety of music genres. Whether you listen to hip-hop, rock, or podcasts, you'll appreciate the clarity and depth these headphones provide. The onboard microphone delivers clear voice calls while the earcup controls enable you to manage playback, volume, and call answering. Since stock is moving quickly with this flash sale, the time to act is now to grab a pair before the price goes back up. See at Amazon
