The action comes following the submission of a probe report by a six-member disciplinary committee headed by General Warden Prof. R.K. Verma. The report found the students guilty of involvement in the clash that left three first-semester students injured and caused property damage worth around Rs 10 lakh.
"The students were identified through the probe and evidence, including video footage. Those found guilty have been punished.
Two techies have been rusticated for a year, and fines have been imposed on 18 others for the damages caused," said BIT Sindri Director Dr. Pankaj Rai. He added that acts of indiscipline will not be tolerated on campus under any circumstances.
The violent episode unfolded inside the institute's mess, where a verbal spat between a senior and junior escalated into a full-blown brawl. The clash quickly drew in students from both groups, leading to scenes of chaos.
Videos that went viral on social media showed students wielding sticks and hockey bats, vandalizing mess property, hurling chairs, and damaging vehicles parked nearby.
Following the incident, campus security was tightened and an internal inquiry was launched. The probe committee, after nearly a month-long investigation, submitted its report recommending disciplinary action against the involved students.
The institute has reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and discipline on campus and warned students against any such misconduct in the future.

‘Raut aide' gets HC bail in Covid centre scam
Mumbai: Bombay high court on Wednesday granted bail to Sujit Patkar (47), an alleged aide of Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut, in a 2022 FIR against him for an alleged Rs 32-crore loss to the public exchequer through a jumbo Covid centre scam and a money laundering case. ED arrested Patkar in July 2023. Granting him bail on parity, Justice Amit R Borkar said while his complicity is indicated, the question was whether his prolonged custody since 2023 warrants the ends of justice since the probe is over but the trial is unlikely to begin soon. HC also considered questions raised by senior counsel Aabad Ponda for Patkar and ED counsel Hiten Venegaonkar. Patkar was accused of cheating the civic body after getting a contract to run a Covid centre in Worli through under-deployment of doctors and staff as well as by generating fake bills. He was one of four partners, including co-accused Dr Hemant Gupta of Lifeline Hospital Management Services. Dr Gupta was never arrested or taken into custody, Ponda argued. You Can Also Check: Mumbai AQI | Weather in Mumbai | Bank Holidays in Mumbai | Public Holidays in Mumbai HC said while it is conscious of the serious nature of the allegations against Patkar and the rigours applicable when granting bail in money laundering cases, "the principle of parity cannot be lightly disregarded, particularly when the co-accused... continues to remain at liberty". It said in the absence of distinct material against one accused, discriminatory incarceration of a co-accused with identical factual allegations would be legally unsustainable.

Visa fraud: 16th FIR against sibling duo
Ludhiana: The city police Tuesday lodged the 16th FIR against fraudulent immigration consultant sibling duo Veenu Malhotra and her brother, Amit, who own Globalway Immigration near Ishmeet Singh Chowk. They allegedly duped a man from Sangrur of Rs 14 lakh on the false promise of arranging a visa. The FIR was lodged following a complaint from Chandeep Singh from Sangrur's Benra village. Chandeep said he wanted to settle abroad and so contacted the accused, and visited their office. The accused promised to secure him a visa and sought Rs 14 lakh for the same. In various instalments, the accused took Rs 14 lakh from him but kept delaying the visa. Singh said he made several visits to their office to get his money back, but to no avail. Thereafter, he lodged a police complaint. Parminder Singh, who is probing the case, said the accused have been booked under IPC sections 420 (cheating) and 120B (criminal conspiracy). It must be recalled that Veena and her brother were arrested by Model Town police last Sept 6 for allegedly duping several people on the pretext of sending them abroad. The arrest followed a complaint from a policewoman deputed in the CM's security. She accused them of duping her brother and mother of Rs 14.30 lakh on the pretext of arranging UK visas for them. With their arrest, police recovered a total of Rs 1.07 crore in cash from their possession. Earlier, on Aug 12 last year, Hardeep Singh of Sangrur's Dhuri and his wife, Amandeep Kaur, climbed atop a water tank, accusing the same firm of duping them of Rs 10 lakh. A day after the incident, the district administration cancelled the firm's licence.
