Former India opener
Aakash Chopra
has poured cold water on hopes of seeing
Shreyas Iyer
in India's Test squad anytime soon, despite the 30-year-old's standout performances in recent months across formats.
While Iyer was India's top scorer in their victorious ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign and had a stellar run in both the IPL and domestic red-ball season, Chopra believes there is a long queue ahead of him when it comes to Test selection.

"Shreyas Iyer won't get a chance now. Many others haven't gotten a chance either," Chopra said on his YouTube channel. "If you think about it, Karun Nair has only just gotten his chance.
Sarfaraz Khan
hasn't been given a shot. Dhruv Jurel is waiting on the sidelines. If he cannot even get among those who are in the waiting line, then how can he be considered for selection?"

Iyer has indeed had a superb run.
He scored 480 runs in just seven innings in the 2024–25 Ranji Trophy at an average of 68.57 and a strike rate above 90. He then followed it up with a career-best IPL season, scoring 604 runs in 17 matches and leading Punjab Kings to their first final in nine years.
Poll
Do you think Shreyas Iyer deserves a spot in India's Test squad?
Yes, based on his recent performances
No, there are other deserving players
Maybe, it depends on future performances
Still, Chopra emphasised that red-ball opportunities will only come with patience. "I know he had a good first-class season. He had a good IPL, took Punjab Kings to the final, did well in white-ball cricket — but his time will come in Tests.

He will have to wait just a little bit."
Meanwhile, Sarfaraz Khan, another contender, continues to impress. After three fifties and a 150 in six Tests, he struck 92 for India A against England Lions and followed it up with a century in the intra-squad match ahead of the England series.

NHL Rumors: Austin emerges as top contender for $2 billion expansion franchise amid growing competition

Austin, Texas, is emerging as a strong contender for a new NHL expansion team (Getty Images) The NHL may soon welcome a new team, and a surprising city is rising through the ranks—Austin, Texas. Long overshadowed by nearby Dallas and Houston in the world of pro sports, Austin is now making headlines as it officially joins the list of cities competing for an NHL expansion franchise. With the league setting the franchise fee at a staggering $2 billion, the race is quickly becoming one of the most expensive and competitive in hockey history. Why Austin is gaining serious traction in the NHL expansion race Austin's pitch has something the others lack: a relatively untapped pro sports market. Unlike Atlanta, Houston, Indianapolis, and New Orleans—cities already home to NFL, NBA, or MLB teams—Austin would be offering the NHL an exclusive stage. With no existing major league team to compete with, a new hockey franchise could dominate the city's growing and youthful population, which has long craved a team of its own. — frank_seravalli (@frank_seravalli) That could give Austin a critical edge. As Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli reported, the NHL has been fielding informal proposals despite not launching a formal expansion process. Commissioner Gary Bettman confirmed that, stating, 'We have no pending applications and we're not seeking to initiate a formal process at this point.' However, Bettman also outlined the league's strict standards for any future team, saying it must check four key boxes: 'a cohesive and well-heeled ownership group, an NHL-ready arena, a growing market and a way to make the league better than it was.' NHL expansion remains deliberate but inevitable While no new franchises are imminent, momentum is building. The last major wave of expansion happened in 2000, when the Columbus Blue Jackets and Minnesota Wild joined the NHL. Doug MacLean, the Blue Jackets' GM at the time, reflected on the era: 'It's pretty bizarre when you think about it… things had been picked pretty clean by two previous expansions in back-to-back years.' Since then, the league has remained stable, though notable shifts have occurred. The Arizona Coyotes folded and were replaced by the Utah Mammoth, and the Seattle Kraken and Vegas Golden Knights brought new life to the league. All it needs is attitude adjustment to become a good fielding side: Haddin

Former Australia keeper-batter Brad Haddin believes the Indian team, led by Shubman Gill, needs an "attitude adjustment" as the visitors try to find a way out of their fielding woes in the ongoing five-Test series in England. Indian fielders, especially Yashasvi Jaiswal, dropped several catches as Gill's side lost the opening Test at Headingley by five wickets to go 0-1 down against Ben Stokes' team. The 47-year-old Haddin, who played 66 Tests and scored more than 6,500 runs across formats for Australia, said that all the great cricket teams across different eras had good fielding as their distinguishing feature. "Every great team, no matter what era you are playing, the one standout they've always had... they've been great fielding teams. And, I think, that's the one legacy (Shubman) Gill can start to leave now on this team," said Haddin in his Willow Talk podcast. "It needs an attitude adjustment if you want to field well and compete the whole time, it's only attitude," Haddin added. Young opener Jaiswal, who was fielding in the slips and gully region, crucial catches off the bowling of Jasprit Bumrah, leaving the pace spearhead frustrated. Indicating that Indian players' poor fielding was evident during this year's Indian Premier League, Haddin said the catching had left a lot to be desired during the two-month-long T20 tournament. "In the IPL this year, the catching was horrible. Yes, we talk about talented bowlers, batsmen, but it was the catching that was a real problem." He said that there was nothing stopping India from becoming the best fielding side in the world given the kind of talent they had. "And the one thing I'd say to India, is find a way to be the best fielding team in the world because you've got the talent everywhere else," he said. India will hope to overcome their shortcoming and level the series when the second Test gets underway in Birmingham on July 2.

The Atlanta Hawks are making waves in the offseason as potential suitors for Phoenix Suns guard Bradley Beal . With +400 odds to land the three-time All-Star, per Bovada, Atlanta is among the favorites to pull off a major trade before the 2025-26 NBA season tips off. Why the Atlanta Hawks Are Targeting Bradley Beal The Atlanta Hawks have aggressively retooled their roster around Trae Young and a promising young core. Adding a proven scorer like Beal could elevate them from playoff hopefuls to genuine contenders in the Eastern Conference. Beal, a 6'4' guard, brings veteran leadership and scoring punch. Despite recent injury struggles, his track record as a 20+ PPG scorer makes him an attractive option for Atlanta. Suns' Stance: Beal Likely on the Move Phoenix appears ready to part ways with Beal after trading Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets. Suns insider John Gambadoro didn't mince words about Beal's future: "There's a zero percent chance that Bradley Beal is back on this Suns team next year." This opens the door for the Hawks, Bucks, Warriors, and Wizards to pursue a deal. Obstacles in a Potential Trade - Massive Contract: Beal is owed $251 million over five years, with two seasons remaining. - Injury Concerns: He hasn't played 60+ games since 2020-21. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 백오피스까지 맞춤 제작… 콜렉션비, 고도몰 커스터마이징으로 입점 브랜드 관리 고도화 NHN COMMERCE 더 알아보기 Undo - Declining Production: Only one 20+ PPG season since signing his max deal. Still, Atlanta might view him as a calculated risk. Pairing Beal with Trae Young could create one of the league's most dynamic backcourts. How Beal Fits with the Atlanta Hawks - Scoring Boost: Adds a reliable second option alongside Young. - Veteran Presence: Guides young players like Jalen Johnson and Kobe Bufkin. - Floor Spacing: Career 37.2% three-point shooter helps spread the floor.
