Saudi Arabia pledges $25bln investments and opening more embassies in Africa
RIYADH - Saudi Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Walid Al-Khereiji revealed that his country intends to increase the number of its embassies in African countries to more than 40 over the coming years. He also expressed Saudi Arabia's aspiration to invest $25 billion in Africa. Al-Kheraiji made the remarks while attending a reception marking the annual Africa Day commemoration, held at the Culture Palace in the Diplomatic Quarter in Riyadh. Al-Kheraiji stated that Saudi Arabia will finance and secure $10 billion in exports to Africa and provide $5 billion in additional development financing to Africa by 2030. "Saudi Arabia also affirms its commitment to developing cooperation and partnerships with African countries, expanding trade and integration, and enhancing consultation, coordination, and mutual support within international organizations on issues of common interest," he said. Al-Khereiji explained that African countries occupy a significant position on the country's foreign policy map and diplomatic network. "Saudi Arabia has provided more than $45 billion to support development and humanitarian projects in 54 African countries," he said while noting that the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has provided more than $450 million in aid to 46 African countries. The deputy minister emphasized that Africa is a continent of promising opportunities, with its natural resources, ambitious youth, and renewable potential. Airbus collaborates in launching training program for Saudis in helicopter maintenance
RIYADH — Airbus joined hands with the Colleges of Excellence Company in launching a unique training program aimed at qualifying young Saudis in the field of helicopter maintenance. The ceremony of launching the Helicopters Maintenance Joint Training Program with Airbus was held on Tuesday under the patronage of Minister of Education Yousef Al-Benyan and in the presence of Minister of Transport and Logistics Eng. Saleh Al-Jasser. The training program was launched in the presence of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) President Abdulaziz Al-Duailej, Assistant Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Dr. Abdullah Al-Ahmari, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Colleges of Excellence Eng. Iyad Al-Qarawi, at the International Aviation Technical College in Riyadh. Eng. Ayman Al-Abdullah, CEO of Colleges of Excellence, Arnaud Montalvo, vice president of Airbus Helicopters for the Middle East and Africa, and Eng. Eid Al-Qahtani, head of Airbus's Regional Headquarters in the Kingdom, were also among the attendees. The program leverages the technical expertise of both Airbus and Colleges of Excellence in providing high-quality training content that enables trainees to acquire advanced skills in helicopter maintenance, in line with the sector's local and regional requirements. Eng. Naif Al-Matrafi, head of Marketing and Business Development at Colleges of Excellence, said that training in this program is scheduled to begin at the start of the next training year, and that participants will receive a higher diploma in helicopter maintenance. "The program aims to achieve a 100 percent employment rate for those enrolled in the program to work in military and civilian agencies," he said while noting that the launch of this program falls within the framework of Colleges of Excellence's approach to building strategic partnerships with major international companies in the aviation sector. UAE non-oil sector grows steadily, regional tensions weigh on demand
ABU DHABI - The UAE's non-oil private sector grew steadily in June even as regional tensions weighed on demand, and firms ramped up output to tackle backlogs, a survey showed on Thursday. The seasonally adjusted S&P Global UAE Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) edged up to 53.5 in June from 53.3 in May, signalling continued growth in the sector, but new orders increased at their slowest pace in nearly four years. The subindex for new orders fell to 54.5 in June from 56.2 in May, and was the lowest reading since September 2021. The slowdown was attributed to tensions between Israel and Iran, which dampened client demand. David Owen, senior economist at S&P Global Market Intelligence said the impact of the conflict between Israel and Iran was mostly felt on the demand side, with some slowdown in orders. "However, with firms instead able to turn their attention to addressing the substantial level of outstanding impact on overall business conditions was negligible," Owen said. Output growth accelerated as firms sought to reduce backlogs. Supply chain challenges persisted, with delivery times improving at the slowest rate in 14 months, and input costs rose at the slowest pace in nearly two years. UAE non-oil firms remained relatively subdued in their business outlook, the survey showed, even though the level of business confidence rose to its highest since November. Dubai's headline PMI dropped to its lowest level in nearly four years in June to 51.8 from 52.9 the previous month, driven by a sharp slowdown in sales growth amid competitive pressures and weaker tourism. Despite this, business activity rose sharply, and workforce numbers increased for the third consecutive month.
