Buc-ee's delays opening of Huber Heights store

Yahoo04-03-2025
Mar. 4—Ohio's first Buc-ee's travel center, in Huber Heights just north of I-70, will not open in 2025 as originally projected.
Representatives for the Texas-based company confirmed Tuesday the project has been delayed and the store is now expected to open in 2026.
"Unfortunately, we encountered some early project hiccups that delayed our schedule," the representative said. "While 2025 is no longer feasible, we are targeting the first quarter of 2026. We will provide more specific information as we get closer to the finish line. No need to panic; fresh Texas BBQ and the world's cleanest restrooms are on the way!"
Huber Heights Assistant City Manager Aaron Sorrell said Tuesday the city had not been informed of the delayed opening date.
The company did not specify the reason for the delay.
However, construction of the 74,000-square-foot store was temporarily halted in November due to a lawsuit between Clark County commissioners and the city of Huber Heights over the provision of water and sewer services in the area of CenterPoint 70 Boulevard and the I-70/Ohio 235 interchange in Huber Heights, specifically as it relates to the Buc-ee's site.
The lawsuit was resolved in December after more than a year of litigation with a 10-year agreement that stipulates Clark County will provide water and sewer services to the Buc-ee's site.
The relocation and rerouting of sewer and electric lines also contributed to the construction delay, city officials said at the time.

Palantir smashes expectations with $1 billion Q2 revenue as CEO boasts that skeptics have been 'bent into a kind of submission'

Palantir's CEO, Alex Karp, saw no reason to be humble after his company's blockbuster second-quarter earnings. "As usual, I've been cautioned to be a little modest about our bombastic numbers, but there's no authentic way to be anything but have enormous pride and gratefulness about these extraordinary numbers," he said as he kicked off his part of the earnings call on Monday. He struck a similar tone in his letter to shareholders. "The skeptics are admittedly fewer now, having been defanged and bent into a kind of submission," he wrote. The Denver-based AI software company beat analyst estimates Monday with adjusted earnings of 16 cents per share on $1 billion in revenue, topping LSEG projections of 14 cents and $940 million, respectively. The stock peaked at more than 5% in after-hours trading compared to when the market closed at 4 p.m ET. Palantir 's commercial revenue in the US nearly doubled since last year's second quarter to $628 million, while government revenue climbed 53% year-over-year to $426 million, mostly thanks to a 10-year, $10 billion contract with the US Army, which consolidated 75 contracts into one. Ryan Taylor, chief revenue officer and chief legal officer, said that the US Space Force awarded the company a $218 million delivery order and raised the spending ceiling for Palantir's Maven Smart System to $795 million in preparation for "significant demand." The company also raised its full-year revenue guidance midpoint to just north of $4 billion, a nine-point increase from last quarter. Karp concluded the call with a message for investors. "Maybe stop talking to all the haters — they're suffering," he said.

Geospace Technologies Acquires National Lab Developed Heartbeat Detector Technology

Advanced Analytics Detection Product Adds to the Company's Security Portfolio HOUSTON, August 04, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Geospace Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ: GEOS) today announced the acquisition of Heartbeat Detector®, a heartbeat detection security technology developed by the United States Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). Effective July 31, 2025, Geospace acquired 100 percent of the outstanding shares from GeoVox Security, Inc., the company who first licensed and commercialized the technology from ORNL. Heartbeat Detector® uses a proprietary algorithm developed by ORNL researchers to reveal individuals attempting to hide in vehicles at security checkpoints by detecting a beating heart. Used in more than a dozen countries to address human trafficking and prison security, the Heartbeat Detector® is a small, portable device that uses proprietary sensors to rapidly identify people hidden in vehicles, providing a modern, user-friendly interface in as little as 10 seconds. The product, which relies on GS-ONE LF single-element geophones manufactured by Geospace, has been proven 99% effective by Oak Ridge, Sandia and Thunder Mountain national laboratories. Domestically, the Heartbeat Detector® is used extensively by departments of corrections and prison systems. Globally, the product has been leveraged for border crossings and prisons in Lithuania, Slovenia, Ukraine, Hong Kong, Czech Republic, Spain, France and Germany. The estimated market size for global prison facilities is 10,000 locations. There are more than 300 manned border checkpoint crossings in the United States and more than double that in Europe based on EU estimates. "Our sensing products have a history in border and perimeter security applications. With this acquisition, we are responding to market demand for an accurate, simple, portable technology to combat human trafficking, illegal border crossings, entrance and exit from critical facilities, and prison breaks. The Heartbeat Detector® will align well with our current perimeter security and surveillance offerings in the Intelligent Industrial business segment," said Rich Kelley, CEO of Geospace Technologies. "As part of our long-term growth plan, we have sought out immediately accretive acquisitions to our newly established business segments. We intend to offer the Heartbeat Detector® on a subscription basis to enable the customer base to streamline acquisition through lower upfront costs. This recurring revenue business model is becoming increasingly important in the strategic growth strategy of our company." "It is deeply gratifying to see success in this partnership to commercialize ORNL's heartbeat detection technology," said Jen Caldwell, director of technology transfer at Oak Ridge National Labs. "We strive to develop innovations of lasting market value that make significant contributions in a wide range of applications including safety and security. This heartbeat detection technology has more than achieved this objective, and we look forward to future successes with our partner Geospace, who shares our mission to tackle tough scientific challenges." "Having achieved this sale agreement with Geospace maintains the vision my father had when he licensed the heartbeat detection algorithm from ORNL more than 25 years ago," said Andrew White, GeoVox president and son of former Texas Governor Mark White. "This transition into the capable business model of Geospace will further my father's legacy as the company advances this safety and security technology to the next level." Lexington Bakes Raises $1-Million Seed Round

Los Angeles-based Lexington Bakes raised $1 million in a seed round led by Rainfall Ventures with participation from angel investors, according to the company. Company founder Lex Evan attributed the fundraising success to the company's recent launch of chilled oat bars that are distributed through San Francisco-based online grocer Good Eggs for the past two months. 'Sprouted oats become easy to digest and provide more nutrients. They have no refined sugar and contain 50% less sugar than our indulgent treats. With this new platform, we expand the space our brand holds in consumers' minds to become not only a dessert treat but also a breakfast treat to start every day with good taste,' said Evan, in a statement. The oat bars were inspired by British flapjacks and are formulated with sprouted oats, maple syrup, brown butter, dates, vanilla and salt,' Evan said. The first two flavors to launch included maple brown butter and raspberry crumble. 'We're focusing on growing our DTC (direct-to-consumer) business, and we've been able to hire a lot of help part-time and agency support,' said Evan. The funds also will support the startup's transition from self-manufacturing to co-manufacturing. Information for this article was sourced from Lexington Bakes.
