Vir Das mocks Cannes dress code with fake 'nude, long train' outfit

India Today24-05-2025
Vir Das took another playful jab at the Cannes Film Festival on Friday, May 23, by sharing an AI-generated photo of himself attending the prestigious event on Instagram. This happened after the festival introduced strict new rules for red carpet looks, which included no dramatic gowns, see-through nude dresses, and long, flowing trains. Vir Das posted a photo-shopped picture of himself at Cannes, wearing a semi-transparent and voluminous outfit with an extra-long train. Along with the photo, he wrote, 'Large, voluminous, nude, long train. In your face #cannesfilmfestival you don't know what you're missing (sic)."

advertisementThe post was clearly a joke, and he admitted he hadn't actually attended the event. But the funny post quickly caught attention online.
A few days back, after the festival began on May 13, Das had also posted a funny statement pretending to be upset about the new rules."It is with deep regret that I announce I will no longer be attending the Cannes film festival because of the new red carpet rules. For multiple generations nude voluminous gowns with large trains have been culturally specific to the comedy community. This year I had planned a dark beige, 78 foot long, off- shoulder piece that moved finely into sleeves that covered my wrists, but dipped lower and gently showcased the heart of my s*****m. But if I cannot wear a Gota original, I refuse to let our culture be shunted. I was planning on taking multiple selfies of cultural significance. But someone has to take a stand. I wish the festival all the best (sic)," he wrote in the post.

Edelweiss CEO and Shark Tank India judge Radhika Gupta calls out Dior for no credit to India for Mukaish Overcoat: Says, time to ...

Radhika Gupta (ANI) Edelweiss CEO and Shark Tank India judge Radhika Gupta has once again called a luxury brand. After Prada, Gupta has now critised luxury fashion brand Dior for allegedly failing to give credit to India for its traditional 'Mukaish' embroidery. In a post shared on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) Gupta has publicly criticised Dior for selling Rs 1.7 crore ($200,000) overcoat with Lucknowi Mukaish embroidery without acknowledging the Indian artisans . Gupta's public statement on social media highlights a growing demand for global brands to acknowledge the origins and artisans behind traditional crafts. Read Radhika Gupta's social media post here In the post Gupta expressed her frustration over what she called 'blatant cultural appropriation ,' revealing that the intricate embroidery was crafted by 12 Indian artisans over 34 days, yet the brand gave no credit, no context, and no mention of India 'One more handloom, one more headline. Edelweiss Mutual Fund CEO Radhika Gupta on Prada Kolahpuris controversy This is not the first time that Radhika Gupta has called out a luxury fashion brand. Recently, the Edelweiss CEO criticised Prada for showcasing scandals that resemble closely to India's traditional Kolhapuri chappals. Gupta has criticised Prada for not giving the due credit to the original artisans. Her remarks soon went viral on social media calling for the recognition and preservation of India's textile heritage . Gupta shared a post on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) in which she criticised Prada. '500 rupee chappal sold for 1 lakh, without any credit! This is why I am obsessed with wearing and talking about handlooms. Every child knows who Prada and Gucci are, but very few in a room know a Himroo, Sambalpuri or Narayanpet. Our textile heritage and craftsmanship is for us to preserve, brand and benefit from. As for Prada... Laughter Chefs 2: Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi pens a gratitude note as the show ends; congratulates winners Karan Kundrra and Elvish Yadav

Laughter Chefs 2 has wrapped up with Elvish Yadav and winning the cooking-based show. The duo, who never failed to impress the audience with their fun personalities and unique cooking skills, lifted the trophy and won the reality show. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi has now taken to his Instagram handle to express gratitude for his journey and congratulate Elvish and Karan. Harpal shared moments from the grand finale and gave fans a glimpse into it. He even penned a long note expressing his gratitude for the show. He then congratulated the winners Karan Kundrra and Elvish Yadav. The caption of the post read, 'Here's the magical dish #croissantfruitfountain that the boys created to lift the trophy of #laughterchefs @kkundrra @elvish_yadav. The duo were a perfect team — one who understood cooking and one who was the perfect support system. It is a perfect management principle of partners filling up gaps wherever required, and Elvish did that all the time.' He further wrote, 'Here's to the entire team of #laughterchefs who created history in the world, brought people back to watching TV non-stop for hours, thereby lifting the spirits of cable distribution/set-top boxes, thereby bringing cheers to what we would always hear #tvaabmargaya… no mean task this one.' Karan Kundrra expressed his excitement on winning the show and said, 'Coming back for Season 2 turned out to be one of the most special experiences I've had in a long time. There was a kind of ease on this set that's hard to describe — no pressure, no overthinking, just people genuinely enjoying themselves. I felt like I was returning to a family that missed me. I joined mid-season, had zero prep, and suddenly I was in this high-pressure kitchen with Elvish, who operates on pure instinct and jugaad, and somehow, it just clicked. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now What's precious to me is that this journey, with all its fun, flaws, and flavour, sends a simple but powerful message: that everyone can cook, and everyone should. Because food isn't about perfection, it's about connection.' Elvish Yadav, on wrapping up the season and winning the show, said, 'When I entered Laughter Chefs, I thought it would be a fun break — a few laughs, some kitchen disasters, and then back to regular life. But this show had other plans. From the very first week, it pulled me into its vibe. And when Karan and I teamed up, it was an instant vibe match. We never overplanned, we just showed up, had fun, and stayed real. The kitchen was a new territory for me, but this journey taught me so much. I now have a very different appreciation and respect for those who cook regularly. What stands out for me is that my mom got to witness all of it: the mistakes, the growth, the final win.'

'If he was at my home...', Jaya Bachchan once wanted to slap Shah Rukh Khan because of Aishwarya Rai, the reason was... Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai are the two most iconic stars in Indian cinema, known for their impeccable talent and fascinating collaboration. The two shard unforgettable on-screen chemistry in films like Josh (2000) and Devdas (2002). However, after that, they eventually had a dramatic fallout that became a topic of intrigue among fans and media. In early 2000s, their relationship took a surprising turn and even led Jaya Bachchan to intervene and express her anger publicly. In early 2000s, Despite Aishwarya Rai collaborating with Shah Rukh Khan in two films, she was removed from several projects with him, including Chalte Chalte and Veer Zaara. Addressing the fallout, Aishwarya expressed that it impacted her career, though Shah Rukh later offered an apology, and things eventually sorted out. However, the matter didn't just stay between Shah Rukh and Aishwarya- it also caused ripples within the Bachchan family. In a 2008 interview with People Magazine, Jaya Bachchan expressed her disappointment for remarks SRK made on Aishwarya. Expressing her feelings, the veteran actor said, 'Of course, I do. I haven't had the opportunity to discuss it with him and I am going to speak to him about it. If he was at my home, I would have slapped him, just as I would my own son. But I have connected with him in my soul, and that's it.' Despite being angry, she admitted, 'I have a weakness for Shah Rukh.' Shah Rukh Khan's absence at Aishwarya and Abhishek's wedding in 2007 also caused rumours of lingering tensions. Reports claim, that there weren't on talking terms after their infamous fallout on the sets of Chalte Chalte. Jaya Bachchan candidly responded to this, 'Is Aishwarya going to invite him for the wedding? Let me tell you, very honestly, if we could have invited him, we would have changed the date of the wedding. I would like to give my family the freedom and the space.'
