Astronomer chief executive officer Andy Byron 'placed on leave' amid Coldplay concert saga
The company, based in New York, said another employee would be acting in Mr Byron's role and it would provide more updates "in the coming days".
The announcement came a few hours after Astronomer, which makes software that helps companies implement workflow management technology, said it was launching a "formal investigation" into the matter.
Here's a look at how we got here.
Video posted to TikTok by user @Instaagrace showed one person with their arms wrapped around another watching Coldplay performing at a concert near the US city of Boston.
The pair were being filmed by concert crew, with the footage being projected on large screens — a standard practice at large concerts and sporting events to capture crowd reactions.
This generally prompts excited reactions from the people being featured.
However, in this instance, the people in the shot appeared to be hiding their faces — one quickly turned their back to the camera, and the other ducked down out of the shot.
Coldplay singer Chris Martin can be heard saying, "either they're having an affair or they're just very shy".
The video quickly went viral.
As of Saturday morning, @Instaagrace had about 23,000 followers — but her video went way beyond those numbers.
People started making jokes about it on X, and Instagram meme accounts posted screenshots of those jokes to their many followers.
Soon, entertainment websites and news outlets started writing articles.
As of Saturday afternoon, @Instaagrace's video had been viewed more than 74 million times on TikTok, which doesn't count the number of times it had been viewed in reposts of the footage on social media and other websites.
The chatter in the comments section of the video showed users trying to identify the people caught cuddling.
One user claimed it was Astronomer's chief executive officer, Andy Bryon, and the company's chief people officer, Kristen Cabot, with their comment being liked more than 100,000 times.
Another claimed the video also showed a fellow Astronomer employee called Alyssa Stoddard — but Astronomer later said she was not at the event.
This theory then spread across the internet and onto other social media platforms, news websites, and podcasts.
The ABC has contacted Astronomer for comment on whether Mr Byron or Ms Cabot were in the video, but has yet to hear back.
Mr Byron's name became a popular key term people were using in Google searches, along with questions like "what happened at the Coldplay concert?"
By this point, social media was awash with rumours and speculation about the video.
Jokes were shared quickly and widely, as were screenshots purporting to be statements from Mr Byron.
One statement impersonating the tech executive included a joke about him being revealed as a Coldplay fan.
Another took aim at the band for violating Mr Byron's privacy — this was reportedly posted by an account claiming to be a US reporter, which has since been deleted.
Some fake statements were filtered into frenzied conversations about the Coldplay concert saga, with many people believing them to be genuine.
But the company said Mr Byron himself had not made a statement about the matter.
The company posted a statement on its LinkedIn and X accounts in the early hours of Saturday morning, which was Friday afternoon on the east coast of the US.
Here is the statement in full:
"Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding.
"Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability.
"The board of directors has initiated a formal investigation into this matter and we will have additional details to share very shortly.
"Alyssa Stoddard was not at the event and no other employees were in the video.
"Andy Byron has not put out any statement, reports saying otherwise are all incorrect."
The company did not mention the Coldplay concert in its statement.
It instead referred to an "event" and used careful, vague wording like "this matter".
A few hours later, the company posted a second statement.
By that point, it was 9pm on Friday on the east coast of the US.
Here is the second statement from Astronomer:
"Co-founder and chief product officer Pete DeJoy is currently serving as interim CEO given Andy Byron has been placed on leave.
"We will share more details as appropriate in the coming days."
The ABC has contacted Astronomer for comment about whether Mr Byron's leave was voluntary or involuntary.
Two hours after the announcement, both Mr Bryon and Ms Cabot still appeared on the company's website among other high-ranking employees:
The TikToker who posted the original video gave an interview with British tabloid The Sun, which identified her as Grace Springer.
"A part of me feels bad for turning these people's lives upside down, but play stupid games … win stupid prizes," she said.
"I hope their partners can heal from this and get a second chance at the happiness they deserve with their future still in front of them
"I hope, for them, my video was a blessing in disguise."
On Friday evening, local time, Ms Springer said she had not made much money from the video.
"Let's just say I couldn't take you out to dinner," she said.
She has, however, added details to her account to allow people to transfer her money.
"The reaction to my video has been overwhelming, to say the least," she said.
"I'm glad you guys are entertained and that I can make your internet experience fun for the last few days.
"But at the end of the day, Andy's wife and his family are very real people.
"So just … keep that in mind."

HR exec on Coldplay cam resigns after viral embrace
The executive who was caught on camera embracing the CEO of her company at a Coldplay concert in a moment that went viral has resigned. The company, Astronomer, confirmed that its executive in charge of human resources has left. "Kristin Cabot is no longer with Astronomer, she has resigned," spokesman Taylor Jones said in a brief statement. Her departure follows the resignation of CEO Andy Byron, who quit after the company said he was being put on leave pending an investigation. The episode resulted in endless memes, parody videos and screenshots of the pair's shocked faces filling social media feeds. Cabot and Byron were caught by surprise when singer Chris Martin asked the cameras to scan the crowd for his "Jumbotron Song" during the concert last week at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. They were shown cuddling and smiling, but when they saw themselves on the big screen, Cabot's jaw dropped, her hands flew to her face and she spun away from the camera while Byron ducked out of the frame. "Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy," Martin joked in video that spread quickly around the internet. When the video first spread online it wasn't immediately clear who they were, but online sleuths rapidly figured out their identities. The company has previously confirmed the identities of the couple in a statement to the AP. Both of their profiles have now been removed from Astronomer's website, and a November press release announcing her hiring has also been deleted. Astronomer was a previously obscure tech company based in New York. It provides big companies with a platform that helps them organise their data. Online streams of Coldplay's songs jumped 20 per cent in the days after the video went viral, according to Luminate, an industry data and analytics company. Gwyneth Paltrow hired on 'temporary basis' to speak on behalf of company after CEO's viral cheating moment at Coldplay concert
Gwyneth Paltrow has appeared in a hilarious cameo speaking on behalf of Astronomer, with the company caught in a PR disaster after its CEO and his alleged mistress was busted cosying up at a Coldplay concert. Astronomer chief Andy Byron had his arms wrapped around the chest of fellow colleague Kristin Cabot at the British band's tour in Boston, Massachusetts on July 16. The alleged tryst was filmed by Coldplay fan Grace Springer and shared to TikTok where it has been seen close to 70 million times, with many news stories already written. Chris Martin, who is Paltrow's ex-husband and father to her two children, joked to the crowd that the couple were "either having an affair or just very shy" as thousands of other concert-goers laughed and cheered. On Saturday, Astronomer published a video to their LinkedIn page in which Paltrow appeared as a ''temporary spokesperson'' to answer some questions, marking a surprise PR move by the company as it continues to become entangled in a media storm. The actress, wearing a blue shirt, started her cameo by saying: ''Thank you for your interest in Astronomer. Hi, I'm Gwyneth Paltrow," as corporate music blissfully played in the background. ''I've been hired on a very temporary basis to speak on behalf of the 300 plus employees at Astronomer. ''Astronomer has got a lot of questions in the last few days, and they wanted me to answer the most common ones.'' The first question which appeared on the screen read: ''Q: OMG! What the actual f**k'' the text begins, before it abruptly cuts off with Paltrow reappearing. Paltrow then replies: ''Yes! Astronomer is the best place to run Apache Airflow.'' ''We've been thrilled to see so many people suddenly interested in data workflow automation," she continues applying light sarcasm. ''As for the other questions we've received…'' A second question then appears on the screen: ''How is your social media team holding..'' Paltrow responds: ''Yes! There is still space available at our Beyond Analytics event this September! ''And now, we'll return to doing what we do best... delivering game-changing results for our customers. Thank you for your interest in Astronomer.'' The post has garnered the attention of hundreds of LinkedIn users who headed to the comments to share their support and applaud the ''boss move'' by Astronomer's media team. ''Absolutely brilliant, Leo Zheng and team - just brilliant,'' one LinkedIn user commented. ''Phenomenal work, Leo Zheng,'' wrote another. ''Leo Zheng: mic drop,'' a third wrote. ''A clever way to reach your audience - unexpected, but memorable,'' a user critiqued the video. ''Though, to be honest, the question and answer felt like they were on entirely different airflows.'' The company previously said on LinkedIn that Mr Byron is under formal investigation over his alleged cheating scandal involving Astronomer's chief human resources officer. "Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding. Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability," it said. "The Board of Directors has initiated a formal investigation into this matter and we will have additional details to share very shortly." Both Byron and Cabot have quit their jobs at the tech company following the scandal.

Gwyneth Paltrow hired as 'temporary' spokesperson for Astronomer after viral Coldplay kiss cam incident
Gwyneth Paltrow is starring in a new ad for Astronomer. Almost two weeks after the tech company's married CEO, Andy Byron, was caught on a Coldplay concert kiss cam with his arms around his HR executive Kristin Cabot, Gwyneth has been hired as a 'temporary' spokesperson for Astronomer. Gwyneth, 52 – who was married to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin from 2003 until 2016 - appeared in a short video on Astronomer's social media speaking about the company's strengths. She said: 'I've been hired on a very temporary basis to speak on behalf of the 300-plus employees at Astronomer. Astronomer has gotten a lot of questions over the last few days, and they wanted me to answer the most common one.' The first question, 'OMG! What the actual f***?', then appeared on the screen in writing. However, she dodged the question and said: 'Yes, Astronomer is the best place to run Apache Airflow, unifying the experience of running data, ML and AI pipelines at scale. We've been thrilled so many people have a newfound interest in data workflow automation.' The next question to Astronomer was, 'How is your social media team holding...' However, she moved on before the whole question could be asked, saying: 'We will now be returning to what we do best, which is delivering game-changing results for our customers. Thank you for your interest in Astronomer.' The video was captioned: 'Thank you for your interest in Astronomer.' At Coldplay's July 15 concert, a cameraman panned across the crowd and showed Byron and Cabot in an embrace. In a video shared to TikTok, as the couple frantically tried to dodge the camera, Chris, 48, could be heard saying: "Oh, look at these two. All right, c'mon, you're okay. 'Oh, what? Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy.' Both Byron and Cabot have since resigned from the company.
