Maa Box Office Predictions Day 1: Kajol's horror debut eyes Rs… after 'buy 2 get 1' offer
Directed by Vishal Furia, Maa marks Kajol's powerful return to the big screen, her first full‑blown horror in her career, and she delivers. It's intense, gripping, and unlike any typical Bollywood fare.
The film, which hit cinemas today, June 27th, revolves around a mythological horror rooted in maternal courage. This mother's battle with a powerful curse will keep you hooked till the end.
Backed by Ajay Devgn's production house, Maa is expected to make a strong impact at the box office. Early estimates suggest that the film could collect anywhere between Rs 4.5 crore to Rs 6.5 crore on its opening day. The makers are hopeful that Kajol's Ma will surpass the Day 1 earnings of Shahid Kapoor's Deva , which had opened with Rs 5.78 crore. Ajay Devgn's smart Box Office move
To boost the film's box office performance, Ajay Devgn has rolled out a clever promotional strategy — a 'Buy 2, Get 1 Free' ticket offer. Recently, the actor took to social media and posted: 'The fear of Chandrapur is best enjoyed together. Buy 2 tickets, get 1 free. Offer valid only till this Friday.'
With this limited-time offer, the makers are expecting a spike in audience turnout for Ma. The film is facing stiff competition at the box office from Taare Zameen Par, Housefull 5, and Akshay Kumar's Kannappa, but this move might just give Ma the edge it needs. Maa's plot
Forty years ago in the village of Chandarpur, a newborn girl was sacrificed to Maa Kali—an offering meant to appease an ancient demon known as the Daitya, who resides in a cursed tree at the village's edge.
Ambika (Kajol) and Shuvankar (Indraneil Sengupta) belong to a family bound by this dark legacy, where each generation is cursed to offer their daughters to the demon. Determined to break the cycle, the couple flee the village to raise their daughter, Shweta (Kherin Sharma), in safety.
But after Shuvankar's sudden and mysterious death, Ambika is forced to return to Chandarpur with Shweta to sell their ancestral home, unaware that the past they escaped is ready to awaken. Could have been better…
The film does drag a bit in the beginning! While most of the visual effects land well, a few moments clearly need a bit more finesse.
The climactic showdown with the demon packs intensity, but surprisingly, it doesn't feel as gripping as you'd expect given the life-or-death stakes. One major miss is the Shaitaan connection — it feels like an afterthought. Had that thread been woven more tightly into the narrative, the impact could've been far more powerful.
Nevertheless, it's a good watch.
