Ethan Walker's strong bullpen outing leads Kentucky past USC Upstate 7-3 at the Clemson Regional
Kentucky (30-25) moves on to take on the loser of the Clemson-West Virginia matchup in an elimination game on Sunday. The first trip to the NCAA Tournament for USC Upstate (36-25) came to an end.
Kentucky starter Nic McCay allowed three earned runs in the fourth as USC Upstate tied it at 3.
Walker (2-1) struck out the side in the sixth and Kentucky retook the lead in the bottom half on a bunt by Patrick Herrera for a well-executed squeeze play.
Kentucky added three runs in the eighth. Lawrence singled for the third time, stole second and scored an insurance run on Cole Hage's single through the left side. Then Hudson Brown singled with the bases loaded to score two on his first hit of the tournament.
Walker did not allow a hit until there were two outs in the ninth. He finished with seven strikeouts, two in the ninth, and only allowed three base runners.
Carson Hansen hammered an opposite field three-run homer in the first for Kentucky. James McCoy went 2 for 2 to tie his career-best eight-game hit streak.
Upstate reliever Darin Kuskie (5-2) allowed three earned runs in two innings.

BRISBANE, Australia (AP) — Queensland state officials said Thursday they had secured a deal with the federal government for the 2032 Olympics in Brisbane which commits 50-50 funding for minor venues and 1.2 billion Australian dollars ($788 million) toward a new main stadium at Brisbane's Victoria Park. Raúl Jiménez's goal sends Mexico to 12th CONCACAF Gold Cup final with 1-0 win over Honduras
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Raúl Jiménez scored in the 50th minute off an assist from 16-year-old Gilberto Mora and Mexico advanced to its 12th CONCACAF Gold Cup final with a 1-0 victory over Honduras on Wednesday night. El Tri advanced to play the United States in the final Sunday night in Houston for the eighth meeting in the title game between the two countries with Mexico owning a 5-2 edge. Mexico has won nine Gold Cups, the U.S. seven and Canada one. Mexico broke through early in the second half on a play started by Alexis Vega with a pass to Mora near the top of the box. Mora slid a pass to Jiménez, who beat Edrick Menjívar with a right-footed shot for his 42nd career international goal. No. 17 ranked Mexico appeared to add to that lead a few minutes later when Edson Álvarez tapped in a goal off a set piece but that was negated when video review ruled he was offside. But El Tri managed to hold onto that lead as 75th ranked Honduras was unable to generate an equalizer. CHICAGO (AP) — Pete Crow-Armstrong had two hits and two RBIs after being chosen an All-Star starter for the first time in his career, Shota Imanaga won his second straight start since returning from a hamstring injury and the Chicago Cubs beat the Cleveland Guardians 5-4 on Wednesday night. Seiya Suzuki added two hits and three RBIs for the Cubs, who have opened July with consecutive victories over Cleveland after dropping seven of their final 11 in June. They lead the NL Central at 51-35. Carlos Santana, Lane Thomas and David Fry hit solo home runs for Cleveland, which has dropped six straight and fell to 40-44.
