India needs government incentives and substantial investments in artificial intelligence (AI) to strengthen cybersecurity and border security, a report by Nexgen Exhibitions said on Monday.The report, based on a survey of over 200 companies from 15 cities, highlighted that 86 per cent of respondents agree or strongly agree that India needs proactive government support in AI for national security.As the nation grapples with the increasing challenges in electronic warfare and information warfare, AI emerges as a transformative tool for ensuring national sovereignty, the report noted.Industry estimates suggest that over 2.3 million cybersecurity incidents were reported in India in 2024, along with a financial loss of Rs 1,200 crore due to cyberattacks, the report noted. The country also ranks third globally in phishing attacks, after the US and Russia.Around 14% of respondents support public-private partnerships and incentives for AI innovation in defence.They believe that PPPs (public private partnership) can bridge the AI divide in the sector, effectively ensuring ethical integration of the technology.The report further highlighted that numerous policy gaps need to be addressed by the stakeholders and the government to effectively leverage AI in bolstering national security.There is a notable absence of a national AI security framework specifically designed for defence applications, which is essential for establishing robust security measures, it pointed out.Nexgen Exhibitions in a statement also said that Delhi will host the 10th International Police Expo 2025 from July 31 to August 1 which will focus on strengthening the country's internal security and policing infrastructure.Aadhar Bansal, Director, Nexgen Exhibitions said, "The International Police Expo 2025 will serve as one of the most influential platforms for showcasing innovative solutions in security and technology, underscoring the urgent need for proactive government support and collaboration in AI to enhance national security."

GST notices aimed to ensure compliance, not harass small traders: Siddaramaiah
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday assured small traders that the state government will support them in addressing concerns over GST notices, after an unprecedented protest by bakeries and condiment stores disrupted tea and milk sales across the a meeting at his residence with representatives of trade unions and the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI), Siddaramaiah addressed grievances about tax notices issued to small vendors for non-payment of Chief Minister clarified that the notices were sent only to those whose UPI transactions exceeded Rs 40 lakh, primarily to prompt GST registration, and that traders dealing exclusively in exempt goods like milk, vegetables, meat, and fruits would not be taxed. The meeting followed a symbolic protest earlier in the day, where bakeries and condiment shops stopped serving tea, coffee, and milk. Vendors wore black badges and only served black tea or coffee to signal dissent, accusing the Commercial Tax Department of unfairly targeting them based on digital payment activist Ravi Shetty, who joined protesters at a bakery, said, 'No bakery is selling milk today. We are wearing black bands to express our anger.'Traders complained that GST notices often wrongly included personal transactions and loan amounts, causing panic among vendors, many of whom have now switched to 'cash-only' sales or put up 'No UPI' bodies urged the government to let vendors resolve issues directly with the Commercial Tax Department, provide a one-time waiver on old tax arrears, launch a helpline, and run awareness campaigns to explain GST rules promised that old arrears would not be pursued if traders register under GST and begin paying due taxes going forward. He also announced an enhanced helpline for better Chief Minister said that the state, which ranks second nationally in GST collection and shares half the revenue with the Centre, remains committed to lawful yet supportive operations. After his assurance of transparent and fair treatment, trade bodies agreed to withdraw their call for a bandh on July 25.'We are here to help traders comply with the law and sustain their businesses. German auto components major Bosch has announced plans to cut 1,100 jobs at its Reutlingen plant in southern Germany. It will affect assembly line and back-office positions. The decision, announced on July 22, 2025 and will impact about 10% of the workforce at the site, news agency AFP reported. Bosch Layoffs The layoffs come as Bosch is facing intense price competition in the European steering systems market, driven largely by the entry of low-cost Chinese manufacturers. 'The European market for steering systems is driven by price and hard fought with new suppliers,' said Dirk Kress, head of Bosch's electronics division. He acknowledged the job cuts are difficult but called them essential to securing the site's future. Bosch also pointed to declining demand for steering systems, mainly due to the sluggish pace of electric vehicle adoption, as a reason for the restructuring. The company said manufacturing steering systems at the Reutlingen facility is 'no longer competitive.' The plant will now shift focus toward semiconductor production. How Will Bosch Cuts Jobs? It is still unclear whether the job cuts will be through compulsory layoffs or voluntary options such as early retirement. The development adds to the growing turmoil in Germany's automotive sector. In recent months, suppliers like Schaeffler and Continental have also trimmed their workforces, while Porsche last week warned employees of a 'serious situation' amid slumping demand in China. Bosch had earlier announced 5,500 job cuts in November 2024. After the announcement, Bosch shares listed on the Indian stock market closed 1.37% lower at Rs 37,750 on Tuesday, down from the previous close of Rs 38,320.

Prashant Kishor's protest runs into police wall 2 kilometres from Bihar assembly
Three workers of Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party were injured as police resorted to lathi-charge to disperse a protest march outside the Bihar Legislative Assembly on Wednesday. Though Kishor, who was leading a march to the House for the first time since he founded the party in October 2024, was stopped almost two kilometres away from the Vidhan Sabha, he succeeded in making his presence felt, daring police to hit him and saying that officers had no right to use lathi charge on a peaceful demonstration. Slogans of 'Nitish Kumar hosh me aao (Nitish, come to your senses)' and 'Nitish Kumar murdabad (down with Nitish Kumar)' rang loud during the protest before it was dispersed. The week-long monsoon session of Assembly, the last session before 2025 polls, concludes this Friday. Kishor had started the protest march from his Shekhpura house along Bailey Road. The Vidhan Sabha is five kilometres away. He has been demanding that the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government fulfil its promises, such as giving Rs 2 lakh each to 94 lakh poor families, distribution of three decimal land to each Mahadalit family, and completion of the land survey. 'We are only reminding CM of his old promises,' he said. Later, JSP state president Manoj Kumar Bharti led a team to meet state chief secretary Amrit Lal Meena to put forth the party's demands.
