Trump celebrates golf tournament win and Chelsea FIFA Club World Cup win on same day

Yahoo2 days ago
President Donald Trump went viral while celebrating on stage at the FIFA Club World Cup on July 13, the latest of several sporting events he has attended as president.
Trump received boos and some cheers as he joined FIFA president Gianni Infantino on the pitch at MetLife Stadium, helping congratulate players and give some awards.

When the Chelsea players gathered to celebrate and raise the trophy, Trump remained among the players, one of whom admitted he was confused as to why Trump was still with them. Infantino eventually pulled Trump behind the players.
It was an especially spotlighted role for the president, who has made sporting events a somewhat regular outing since taking back the White House.

What sports events has Trump attended as president?
Much of Trump's domestic travel has been for sporting events, Newsweek reported. Here are some other events he has attended:

Super Bowl LIX - Trump became the first sitting president to attend the NFL championship game on Feb. 9, 2025.
Daytona 500 - Trump attended the signature NASCAR event at Daytona Beach in Florida on Feb. 16, 2025. It was his second appearance at the event as president.
NCAA wrestling championships - Trump attended the finals in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on March 22, 2025.

UFC Fight - Trump attended another UFC fight in Newark, New Jersey, on June 7, 2025.
When he isn't a spectator, Trump hits the golf course
Not only has Trump been a spectator at these high-profile sporting events, but the notorious golf-lover has spent time on the course himself.
According to TrumpGolfTrack.com, the president has spent 38 days golfing from his inauguration until at least June 21.
The same day Trump attended the FIFA Club World Cup final, he boasted on Truth Social about winning the member-member championship at his club in Bedminster, New Jersey. It was the latest in a long line of tournaments that Trump has claimed victory in, even when the odds seemed impossible.

Trump and FIFA president share growing friendship ahead of 2026 World Cup
The U.S., Canada and Mexico are hosting the 2026 World Cup. (The 2025 Club World Cup was a competition of professional clubs; the 2026 World Cup will be a competition of national teams.)
Infantino and Trump appear to be getting increasingly close. Infantino was part of the large group that accompanied Trump on his first foreign trip this term to the Middle East, and he visited the White House, Pro Soccer Wire reported. FIFA recently announced it will open a new office in Trump Tower in New York City.
Trump Tower has also housed other people involved with FIFA − an informant in the FIFA corruption scandal had two apartments: one for him and another for his cats, according to Pro Soccer Wire. Another person involved in the scandal spent his house arrest at Trump Tower, the outlet reported.

Marvin Vettori can't wait to hurt Brendan Allen at UFC 318: 'I don't like the guy'

UFC 318 is personal for Marvin Vettori. NEW ORLEANS – UFC 318 is not just any regular bout for Marvin Vettori. It's personal. "The Italian Dream" takes on bitter rival Brendan Allen on the preliminary card of Saturday's UFC pay-per-view event at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. Vettori (19-7-1 MMA, 9-6-1 UFC) and Allen (24-7 MMA, 12-4 UFC) have plenty of history, more infamously getting into a brawl on the casino floor of the Hard Rock Hotel in South Florida. "It is what it is. It's nothing," Vettori said at the UFC 318 media day on Wednesday, recalling his run-in with Allen. "I was kind of pissed because nothing really happened, and I haven't seen him since. He lives around there, but I don't see him. It's alright at the end of the day. It is what it is. But when you run your mouth, some people think nothing is going to happen. But if you run your mouth, you have to move differently because if I see you, it's on sight." Vettori didn't elaborate exactly elaborate on the root of their feud, but Allen claims it is because he was critical of one of his performances – comments he doesn't think warrant fighting each other outside a professional context. Yet, Vettori assures its personal between the two. "For sure, (it's personal)," Vettori said. "I definitely don't like the guy. I don't like the guy." Vettori enters UFC 318 on the back of a personal tragedy. In April, Vettori's brother passed in a house fire. Understandably so, it's not something the former UFC title challenger expects to ever get over, but he wanted to return to UFC 318 to honor his brother and be an example for others. "You're never going to get over something like that, but you have to do something purposeful and meaningful and something that gets you going in the morning, and you know, be an example of resilience for him and for everybody around me," Vettori said. "I feel like at this time, this is what I was put to do, so I'm going to keep doing for that. Physically, I'm good, and I just can't' wait to get into the cage and hurt him."

Jon Jones wants to fight 'whoever's holding the belt' at UFC White House event

Jon Jones says he's up for fighting at the White House against the UFC heavyweight titleholder at the end of 2025. Jones (28-1 MMA, 22-1 UFC) recently retired as champion, but promptly returned to the UFC's testing pool two weeks later, after president Donald Trump proposed the idea of hosting a UFC event at the White House on July 4, 2026, to celebrate America's 250th anniversary. "... America! Now that tickles my pickle," Jones wrote on X. Jones downplayed the interim-turned-undisputed champion Tom Aspinall as a credible opponent before announcing his intention to walk away from the sport. Perhaps coincidentally, Jones' retirement came just prior to news breaking of another legal incident, in which Jones is alleged to have fled the scene of a hit-and-run accident. With Trump and the UFC on board to create what could be an all-time spectacle of an event, Jones has shown more interest in being a part of it. "I can't promise anyone anything, but I have a very strong feeling that I will be on that card," Jones said in a Joy Of Everything Tik Tok video. "... I think it's going to be incredibly iconic. It's going to be historic. ... It will be as big as 'Thrilla in Manila,' 'The Rumble in the Jungle' – it's up there with that. Essentially, it could be bigger than that." UFC CEO Dana White has stated that the promotion is in the early stages of planning the event at the White House and intends to present the full plan to Trump soon. White has also stated his dream headliner for the event would be Jones vs. Aspinall for the heavyweight title, should Aspinall still be the titleholder at the time. Jones, 37, despite showing no interest in fighting Aspinall before, appears eager to take on anyone holding the title at the event. "I would want to take on whoever's holding the belt at the end of the year," Jones said. "As of right now, the champion is Tom Aspinall, but we'll see who's champion at the end of the year. I feel like it would be only fitting to have an American guy fight for the championship that night. I'd be willing to put it all on the line one more time."
