Department of Health – Abu Dhabi launches Rewarding Exceptional Quality programme, recognising excellence by healthcare providers
ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) has launched a new value-based healthcare initiative under its Rewarding Exceptional Quality programme, aimed at incentivising healthcare providers based on the quality of care they deliver.The programme will initially focus on fertility services and is set to expand to other clinical areas in subsequent phases, further reinforcing Abu Dhabi's position as a world-class healthcare destination.The initiative is part of Abu Dhabi's continued commitment to elevating the standard of care across the emirate, where the department will monitor the performance of healthcare facilities based on specific models and standards.Healthcare facilities will be rewarded with additional incentives for achieving set performance goals within a specified timeframe, such as improving patient outcomes, utilising best medical practices, boosting patient safety, and enhancing the patient experience.Her Excellency Dr Noura Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi – Abu Dhabi, said, 'At the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, we are committed to raising the bar for healthcare quality in Abu Dhabi. The launch of the Rewarding Exceptional Quality programme reflects our ambition to drive meaningful improvements in clinical performance while rewarding providers that go above and beyond in delivering safe, effective, and patient-centred care.''Fertility services were chosen as the starting point given their strategic importance to public health and the profound impact they have on families. Abu Dhabi has already made tremendous strides in advancing reproductive medicine, and this programme will help accelerate progress even further.'Abu Dhabi has become a leading destination for fertility care, driven by innovation in treatments such as egg freezing, in vitro fertilisation (IVF), and embryo transfer.In 2025, the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi reported that IVF success rates in the emirate exceeded 51 percent, among the highest globally, with more than 6,180 IVF cycles performed in 2024 alone.The emirate is home to 14 advanced fertility centres and more than 2,800 healthcare professionals in obstetrics and gynaecology.
This includes 700 specialists and consultants, 375 midwives, and 45 facilities dedicated to women's health.

Abu Dhabi authorities have temporarily suspended an industrial facility in Mussafah after it was found in violation of environmental standards. The decision was taken by Environment Agency Abu Dhabi (EAD), after the facility was found having air emissions that exceed legally allowed levels. This comes after inspections and a follow-up on community complaints about strong odours and air pollution. Investigations confirmed that the facility had a negative impact on local air quality. The agency often conducts inspection efforts of several facilities to help maintain a clean, safe and sustainable emirate. EAD called on all industrial facilities to fully comply with environmental standards — to protect public health and preserve the natural environment we all depend on.

OFWs, families to benefit from expanded services at OFW Hospital
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has announced improved health services for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families through the continued upgrade of the OFW Hospital in Pampanga. DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac and Acting Medical Chief Dr. Patrick Louie Maglaya on July 31 presented the hospital's new facilities and medical equipment designed to meet the unique needs of OFWs and their dependents. Cacdac emphasized that all services remain free for OFW-patients, affirming the government's commitment to providing accessible and specialized health care under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s administration. The OFW Hospital, the only one of its kind in the country, now offers upgraded radiology services, including a new MRI machine and digital mammography. It also added laboratory tests such as hemoglobin (HBA1), drug testing, and aqua electrolyte analysis. Additional upgrades include a complete pulmonary function test, cardio exercise test, treadmill stress test, and holter monitoring for heart assessments. The hospital is currently seeking Level 2 accreditation from the Department of Health, which will allow full use of its ICU and expanded services. Also in progress is the construction of the OFWH Cancer Care Center, expected to be completed within President Marcos' term. Once operational, it will offer cancer care and hemodialysis services for OFWs and qualified dependents. As of June 2025, the OFW Hospital has already provided services to over 50,000 OFWs and their families.
