Leighton Meester breaks her silence on ‘Gossip Girl' costar Michelle Trachtenberg's death
The actress, 39, shared that the news of Michelle Trachtenberg's death hit her particularly hard because they were the same age.
'It's devastating,' Meester revealed to Flaunt Magazine. 'She was a wonderful, talented person, and everyone loved her. It's very, very sad for everyone who knew her.'

The 'Good Cop/Bad Cop' star also reflected on the hit CW drama airing for six seasons from 2007 to 2012.
'Now, I can see that [the show's legacy] continues — in some ways, even more so than back then — to live on, which is incredible,' Meester told the outlet.
On the series, the 'That's My Boy' actress played Blair Waldorf while the 'Harriet the Spy' alum starred as Georgina Sparks.

Penn Badgley, who portrayed Dan Humphrey, broke his silence on Trachtenberg's death, telling E! News in April that her passing was 'really surreal, really saddening.'
'What I remember of her is she was incredibly quick to laugh,' the actor, 38, added. 'She was really joyous.'
Although they hadn't crossed paths in over 10 years, Badgley said Trachtenberg had a 'really pure heart.'

Blake Lively (Serena van der Woodsen), meanwhile, reminisced on Trachtenberg's 'electricity' on social media.
'You knew when she entered a room because the vibration changed,' the 'A Simple Favor' star wrote on her Instagram Stories in February. 'She laughed the fullest at someone's joked, she faced authority head on when she felt something was wrong, she cared deeply about her work, she was proud to be a part of this community and industry as painful as it could be sometimes, she was fiercely loyal to her friends and brave for those she loved, she was big and bold and distinctly herself.'
Lively, 37, noted she'll remember how the late star 'always had yummy caramel smelling lipgloss on.'

'Because she didn't just want to sparkle on camera,' she continued, 'she liked creating a nice experience for anyone who was in her orbit, even down to the subtle smell of her lipgloss because she cared about the sweet details.'
Trachtenberg died due to complications from diabetes at age 39. She was found by her mother on Feb. 26 in her Central Park South apartment and had previously undergone a liver transplant in the last year.
'It is with great sadness [we] confirm that Michelle Trachtenberg has passed away,' Trachtenberg's rep Gary Mantoosh confirmed in a statement to The Post. 'The family requests privacy for their loss. There are no further details at this time.'

Sources initially speculated that the transplant might have played a part in her passing.
The NYPD confirmed Trachtenberg was found 'unconscious and unresponsive' by police and pronounced dead by EMS workers. They responded to the building after a 911 call reporting a woman in cardiac arrest.
In the months before her death, fans were concerned that Trachtenberg appeared gaunt in her social media pictures.
But, last January, she responded to fan concerns, sharing she was 'happy and healthy' and had never had plastic surgery.

Many other fans and former co-stars took to social media to share their condolences over the heartbreaking death, including another 'Gossip Girl' vet, Ed Westwick.
'So sad to hear of the passing of @michelletrachtenberg,' the 37-year-old wrote on his Instagram Story alongside a snap of the late actress on the series.

How Sharon Osbourne and her kids each paid tribute to Ozzy at funeral procession
Mama, he's coming home. The Osbournes put on a united front as they honored Ozzy Osbourne at his funeral procession in his UK hometown on Wednesday. Sharon Osbourne, her kids Jack, Kelly and Aimee, and her stepson Louis all broke down in tears as they said goodbye to the heavy metal icon alongside thousands of fans in streets of Birmingham, England. 14 Sharon Osbourne surrounded by her family at Ozzy's funeral procession. The former 'America's Got Talent' judge, who was married to Ozzy for 43 years before his death at age 76, had to be consoled by her kids as she laid purple flowers at a memorial during the funeral procession. 14 Sharon Osbourne attends Ozzy Osbourne's funeral procession in Birmingham, England. The pin referenced Ozzy's silver cross pendants that were part of his iconic look. Kelly, 40, sported a pair of round wire-rimmed sunglasses, another one of Ozzy's signature styles. Aimee, 41, for her part, wore a bat broach on her black blazer. The Black Sabbath frontman infamously bit the head off a real bat in 1982, thinking it was a toy animal, during a concert. 14 Kelly Osbourne wears round sunglasses to Ozzy's funeral procession. Black and purple were the colors most associated with Ozzy's band. Kelly's fiancé, Sid Wilson, and their 2-year-old son, Sidney, also attended the funeral procession. 'He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee, and Louis.' Ozzy, who was suffering from Parkinson's diagnosis and other ailments, made his funeral wishes clear before he died. 'I do want to make sure it's a celebration, not a mope-fest,' he said in a Dear Ozzy column for The Times of London in 2011. 'I'd also like some pranks: maybe the sound of knocking inside the coffin; or a video of me asking my doctor for a second opinion on his diagnosis of 'death,'' the musician added. 'There'll be no harping on the bad times.' 14 Ozzy Osbourne performs at the 2022 NFL season opening game. Getty Images 14 The Osbournes give the peace sign to fans at Ozzy's funeral procession. News Licensing / MEGA Two days before the funeral, People reported that Sharon is 'heartbroken' in the wake of her husband's death. 'Everyone's rallying around her,' a source told the outlet. 'She's been the rock of this family for decades, and now it's her turn to be held up.' Meanwhile, Kelly broke her silence after Ozzy's passing on her Instagram Stories last Thursday. 'I feel unhappy I am so sad. I lost the best friend I ever had 💔,' the former 'Fashion Police' co-host wrote. The quotes referenced lyrics from Black Sabbath's 'Changes.'

Oleg Cassini's former NYC home now asks $7.99M
A Gramercy Park townhouse once owned by the late Oleg Cassini — Jackie O's favorite fashion designer who was linked romantically to some of the world's most beautiful women — is about to go back on the market with a million-dollar price slash. It will ask $7.99 million. The four-story, 20-foot-wide spread, at 135 E. 19th St., first hit the market for $13.95 million last year, before the price was cut to $8.95 million. It was last purchased at auction for $5 million in 2022. 'It's a bad-ass Gothic party house, with something in every corner — from gargoyles to an imported fountain and wallpaper in the closet,' said listing broker and reality TV star Eleonora Srugo, of Douglas Elliman, who will be representing the home with Elliman's Bernardo Metsch. 8 The residence is replete with historical touches, including stained glass on every floor. Edward Menashy at Evan Joseph Photo 8 The dining room also has stained glass, which pairs with beamed ceilings overhead. Edward Menashy at Evan Joseph Photo 8 Oleg Cassini hosted many a party inside. Getty Images 'Someone should restore it to its glory,' she added. This is where Cassini, a notorious playboy, held glamorous parties and dressed his famous clients, who also included Marilyn Monroe and Grace Kelly, his former fiancée. 'If you love old-school New York, this house has a great history,' Srugo said. The 6,798-square-foot dwelling comes with six bedrooms, 5.5 baths, stained glass on every floor. Once known as the Joseph B. Thomas House — named for a 19th-century sugar mogul's philanthropic heir — it appears to be a Greek Revival home, built in the 1870s. Thomas, who traveled to Russia to bring back and breed 'royal' Russian Borzoi dogs, hired English-born architect Frederick Junius Sterner to remodel the home and transform it into a 'Gothic fantasy … [with] crouching gargoyles and a carved coat of arms,' according to the Daytonian in Manhattan blog. Design details also include decorative stone inlays, and carved paneling and arches. An entry foyer opens with a Flemish pattern stone floor and leads to the living room, which was once called the 'Italian Room,' with a barrel-vaulted ceiling, filigree plasterwork, wood-paneled walls and a large stone fireplace. A garden boasts a working fountain and areas for interior plantings under a glass solarium roof. There's also a chef's kitchen, a prep kitchen, a dumbwaiter, two staircases and a laundry center, along with a large dining room, and a brick-and-tile wine cellar and tasting room. 8 Wood paneling and a brick fireplace enhance the handsome touches. Edward Menashy at Evan Joseph Photo 8 A view of the layout. Edward Menashy at Evan Joseph Photo 8 Stained glass also accents this massive bedroom. Edward Menashy at Evan Joseph Photo The upstairs bedroom floors include ensuite baths and dressing rooms. Thomas himself was also known for hosting parties, including on St. Patrick's Day, when all decorations were green. He also held charity dance galas to raise money for Europe in World War I, sent cows to Europe after the war and planted maple trees on the block along with the first gingko tree — and was president of the Gramercy Park Association, according to the Daytonian in Manhattan blog. But current and past listings also claim that the home has an unusual origin story. They say it was actually built 400 years ago in Amsterdam, and that the 17th-century property was dismantled and shipped first to New York's Upper West Side, where it was reassembled in 1845, and then moved again to Gramercy Park in 1910, where it was 'completed' by Sterner. If true, it would appear to be the city's only 17th-century Dutch home transplanted to New York by ship to be reassembled here in the 19th century. 8 A kitchen detail in the townhouse. Edward Menashy at Evan Joseph Photo 8 The house is filled with original details, including beautiful carved wood and the staircase. Edward Menashy at Evan Joseph Photo And yet, there are some who believe it. 'We felt pretty confident about the 400-year-old claims when we did the research. It was pretty well documented,' said an insider with knowledge of a past listing. As for the current listing, Srugo told Gimme Shelter it may be more likely that some of the home was shipped to New York and not all of it. Like the house, the late Cassini — who died at age 92 in 2006 — also has an interesting backstory. He was the grandson of a Russian-Italian count and the tsar's last ambassador to China before the Russian Revolution. He also dressed Hollywood stars including Joan Fontaine and Joan Crawford. As he told the New York Post in 1961, 'My philosophy is this: Do not tamper with the anatomy of a woman's body; do not camouflage it. I don't want every woman to look like a little boy.'

Three Beer Themed Days Highlight A Delicious August
Celebrate beer in August with three great days that show off beer's wonderful range. getty Almost every day is a great day to drink beer but some days maybe are better than others? In August, three days highlight beer's range of flavors, aromas and styles that will turn you into a beer geek for sure. Two of the three days in August also celebrate the IPA, one of the most popular beer styles in the U.S. Below you'll find the three specialty beer days and how to best celebrate beer at its best. Highlands, North Carolina, grocery store, cold beer selection. (Photo by: Jeffrey Greenberg/Universal Images Group via Getty Images) Jeffrey Greenberg/Universal Images Group via Getty Images Started in Santa Cruz, California in 2007, International Beer Day is a wide day to enjoy all manner of beers. The day has three main goals: To gather with friends and enjoy the taste of beer, to celebrate those responsible for brewing and serving beer and to unite the world under the banner of beer, by celebrating the beers of all nations together on a single day. So on International Beer Day, the number one thing is to enjoy beer with people you care most about. The holiday also celebrates the gift of giving beer to all manner of people from brewers in the industry to your favorite brewery tasting room beertender. These people work really hard to serve you your favorite pints and they should be rewarded with the gift of, well, your favorite beer! Lastly, the day is all about uniting beer lovers throughout the world. From Germany to South Africa to Japan, beer is a global beverage that deserves your attention. Perhaps on International Beer Day you try a style new to you like the Polish grodziske (also known as a gratzer) with its soft wheat and smoke flavor or a Catharina sour, a Brazilian style that's a mingling of sour flavors with fresh fruits like passionfruit or mango. Hand of hops for brewing. (Photo by: Edwin Remsberg / VWPics/Universal Images Group via Getty Images) VW Pics/Universal Images Group via Getty Images National IPA Day- August 7 (The First Thursday In August) Started by former beer writer Ashley Routson, this is one of the most popular beer days on the calendar with many breweries and people celebrating. IPA or India pale ale, is a very popular style of beer where the hops, one of the main ingredients in beer, are the key factor in aroma and flavor. Hops, an agricultural product, have oils in them and depending on the variety, where they are grown in the world and how they are used in the brewing process, can impart lots of different flavors/aromas to beer from floral to citrusy to tropical and beyond. IPAs can be non-alcoholic and they can be 14% ABV. They can be golden, they can be dark. It's a very versatile style that has something for everyone. National IPA day was started in 2011 with Routson and some industry friends at the helm and it blew up that year and now has taken on a life of its own. To celebrate, see if any of your local breweries are doing anything special or it's easy as celebrating by opening up your favorite IPA. Sierra Nevada's hazy IPA day celebrates all things hazy in August. Sierra Nevada Brewing Company Hazy IPA Day - August 21 (Third Thursday In August) Started by Sierra Nevada Brewing Company in 2023, the newest beer day on the block celebrates a specific style of hazy IPA, which is currently one of the most popular styles of IPA on the market. Hazy IPAs (also known as New England IPAs) usually have a fuller body and a juicy flavor from the hops. The juiciness is also in the appearance as the beer can look like a big glass of orange juice. Hazy IPAs can be non-alcoholic or they can be very strong, upwards of 12% ABV. Sierra Nevada created the holiday to show off their large range of hazy IPAs including the best selling Hazy Little Thing. Celebrating Hazy IPA Day is easy, just drink them! Since they are so popular, visit your local brewery to see if they make this style or visit a local beer shop to see what they have available. Cheers to a tasty month and remember to drink responsibly with people you truly care about.
