Actor-politician Smriti Irani has never hesitated to speak candidly about her personal and professional hardships. Recently, the actress-turned-politician opened up about the difficulties - particularly her miscarriage - she faced during her time on 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi' and her talk show 'Kuch Dil Se'.Appearing on YouTuber Raj Shamani's podcast, Smriti revealed that she resumed work just three days after giving birth to her son. 'My son was three days old when I returned to the set of 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi'. Why? Because audiences expected a new episode every evening at 10:30 pm,' she explained.advertisementShe also shared a heartbreaking account of continuing to film after suffering a miscarriage. While producer Ravi Chopra granted her a week's leave, Ektaa Kapoor couldn't allow extended time off due to the show's daily schedule. Smriti recounted, 'Someone from production went to Ektaa and said, 'We're ready to shoot, but Smriti Irani isn't coming. She's lying; nothing has happened to her.' So I had to return with my hospital documents to prove it had.'
At the height of her television career, Smriti was among the highest-paid actors, yet faced further setbacks. While hospitalised after giving birth, she was abruptly replaced on her SAB TV talk show, 'Kuch Dil Se', despite having pre-recorded enough episodes to cover a one-month maternity break.'I was working right up until the last day of my ninth month. I'd been asked to record a bank of 30 episodes and return after a month,' she recalled. In spite of her doctors' and family's concerns, she kept filming both shows to pay off her home loan more quickly. Then came the shocking news. 'I was in hospital after giving birth and received a message: 'You're fired.' I'd just filmed the previous day. They waited for me to be hospitalised before informing me. They used my pre-recorded episodes to ease in a replacement,' she said. Her response was composed. 'They brought in a film actor, more prominent, with a bigger public image. But the show was cancelled and never returned,' she added. Now, years later, Smriti Irani is set to return to the small screen with the new version of 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi'. The show premieres on StarPlus from July 29 and will also be available on JioHotstar.- EndsMust Watch

Amid all this chatter, netizens have also questioned Anupamaa's popularity as Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is returning. Nay-sayers feel that the Smriti Irani-led show is going to give a tough competition to Rupali Ganguly's show and even the ratings might affected. Now, Ektaa Kapoor has finally reacted to these ongoing comparisons. Ektaa Kapoor reacts to Anupamaa and Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi's comparisons In conversation with Brut, Ektaa Kapoor broke her silence about her upcoming show, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi's new season being compared to Anupamaa. She praised Rupali Ganguly and the producer of Anupamaa, Rajan Shahi, for being the best shows of current times. Kapoor bashed these comparisons and mentioned how it is unnecessary. Ektaa Kapoor said, "Yesterday, I was seeing some videos about Anupamaa having a problem with Kyunki's coming. I felt that was such bad taste. She (Rupali Ganguly) is such a big star. Anupamaa, the show, Rajan, the creator, have done what nobody else could do in the last 7 years. They continue to be number 1, and they should continue to be number 1. We are coming with our purpose to tell our story." The producer of Smriti Irani led show added, "These unfair comparisons between lead characters and lead shows are so unnecessary. I think pitying women against each other, pitying content against each other, is so uncalled for." Anupamaa has been one of the most successful shows on Indian Television for the past few years. Anupama Solanki on saas-bahu dramas, influencers, and the changing face of Indian Tv; says ‘Good work always gets noticed'

As Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi gears up for its big comeback, the long-standing debate between traditional family dramas and newer, realistic storytelling has resurfaced. Actress Anupama Solanki, who has appeared in shows like Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, Nath – Krishna Aur Gauri Ki Kahani, and is currently seen in Jagriti – Ek Nayi Subah, believes there's space for both genres in Indian television. 'Realistic shows are working because the audience today wants stories they can relate to emotionally,' Anupama says. 'But Saas-Bahu dramas still have a very loyal audience. After a tiring day, people find comfort in watching family dramas. If the content is strong and told in a fresh way, both formats can succeed.' When asked if she prefers short-format series or long-running dailies, Anupama offers a balanced view: 'Both have their own charm. A limited series is crisp and allows me to try diverse roles quickly. A long-running show brings stability and lets you grow with your character. For me, the role is the deciding factor—if it has depth, I'm in.' With social media influencers increasingly stepping into acting, Anupama remains unfazed. 'Everyone has their journey. Influencers have their own fan base, but acting is a craft. It takes years of learning, discipline, and perseverance. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Remember Him? Anupama also believes Indian television has room to grow in terms of storytelling. 'TV often plays safe. I'd love to see stronger female characters, more daring subjects, and stories that reflect the real world. Audiences are ready for more—they just need to be given the chance.' With her clarity and grounded perspective, Anupama stands as a strong voice in an evolving industry—one that balances tradition with the need for change. As for OTT, she's clear about her vision. 'I would love to do a suspense thriller or a crime drama. OTT gives you a chance to break stereotypes, and I want to be seen in roles that are different from what I do on TV.'

She recalled returning to the set just three days after giving birth to her son, driven by the demanding production schedule and the high expectations of the show's dedicated audience. At that time, the fast-paced nature of TV left little space for personal recovery, and Smriti felt it was her duty to keep the show running smoothly without causing any delays. Smriti Irani's miscarriage and how she was asked to show proof During the shoot of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Smriti Irani went through the traumatic experience of a miscarriage. Despite the immense physical and emotional strain, she chose to stay committed to her work, demonstrating extraordinary resilience. She recalled that producer Ravi Chopra granted her a short leave to recuperate, but the team at Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms couldn't afford a longer break due to the show's daily broadcast schedule. What made the situation even more painful was that some members of the crew accused her of faking the miscarriage to skip work. The allegations were so upsetting that Smriti felt she had no choice but to present her medical documents to Ekta Kapoor to validate the truth of her loss. She wanted to clear her home loan ASAP Smriti Irani recalled working non-stop until the very end of her ninth month of pregnancy, revealing that she had been instructed to shoot a backlog of 30 episodes and return to work after a month-long break. Despite warnings from her doctors and family, she continued shooting, determined to clear her home loan faster. The actress was told she has been fired from Kuch Dil Se While recovering in the hospital after giving birth, Smriti Irani was suddenly removed from her SAB TV talk show, Kuch Dil Se, even though she had pre-recorded a month's worth of episodes to accommodate her maternity leave. However, she was hit with an unexpected blow. 'While I was still in the hospital after giving birth, I got a message saying, 'You're fired.' I had just shot an episode the day before. They waited for me to be admitted to the hospital before delivering the news and used my pre-recorded episodes to smoothly replace me,' she shared. Smriti Irani talks about returning as Tulsi When Raj Shamani asked Smriti Irani about making a comeback and whether she thought it would be fun, Smriti responded by asking him what his idea of fun was. Moments later, she spoke about how her character's weight was often discussed on the show, highlighting how easy it is to body shame women. She added that she is who she is, and Tulsi is what Ekta Kapoor envisions the character to be. Talking about the comeback she said, "There's no dearth of work. I'm making a comeback for experience. Nobody gets to re-experience the same life from a new perspective. I'm getting that opportunity."
