Karisma Kapoor And Sunjay Kapur Took A 'Patch-Up' Trip To Goa, Revealed Kareena: 'They Had Problems'
In 2005, Kareena Kapoor addressed rumours about her sister Karisma Kapoor's troubled marriage with Sunjay Kapur.
Back in 2005, rumours were flying thick and fast about Karisma Kapoor's marriage with Delhi-based businessman Sunjay Kapur hitting a rough patch. The couple, who had tied the knot in a high-profile ceremony in 2003, were suddenly the subject of relentless media speculation.
At the time, Kareena Kapoor was busy filming a Priyadarshan movie in Chennai when she finally decided to address the whispers around her sister's marriage. Speaking candidly with Rediff, she called out the pressure that public scrutiny had placed on the couple, while insisting that things between Karisma and Sanjay were on the mend.
'So much has been written about it. So many of our well-wishers had predicted doomsday for the marriage. But we knew it can be sorted out, and it was. Come on, which marriage doesn't have problems? But if the entire crisis is up for public debate, it naturally becomes harder to solve the tangle."
Kareena said her sister's marriage was 'back on track" and added that Karisma and Sanjay were making an effort to rebuild their relationship. The couple had apparently taken a trip to Goa to try and repair things away from the spotlight, but the media attention followed them even there. Kareena had also shared that their daughter Samaira, who was born in March 2005, played a crucial role in bringing them closer. The couple had moved to their Delhi home soon after.
'Of course it's going to work. My sister and Sanjay [Kapur] love each other. Sure, they had problems. But they were aggravated due to constant media attention. The prying became unbearable when cameras followed them to Goa where they had gone for a patch-up holiday."
She added, 'Samaira is a great cementing force between them," says Kareena. 'In fact, Sanjay is playing a polo tournament soon, and the prize has been named after Samaira. It will be the Samaira Trophy. That's how much he loves his daughter."
While Karisma and Sanjay eventually parted ways years later, this throwback to Kareena's fiercely protective and heartfelt support for her sister during a tough time offers a glimpse into the pressures celebrity families face behind the scenes.
Sunjay) Kapur, the businessman and former husband of Karisma Kapoor, died on 12 June 2025 after a tragic incident during a polo match at Windsor's Guards Polo Club. While playing in the semi-final of the Queen's Cup, he accidentally swallowed a bee, which is believed to have stung him in the mouth or throat. The sting triggered a severe allergic reaction, leading to a fatal heart attack. He was 53 years old at the time.

When Randhir Kapoor publicly slammed Karisma Kapoor's ex-husband, calling Sunjay Kapur a...
Karisma Kapoor's marriage to Delhi-based businessman Sunjay Kapur began in 2003 but soon spiralled into one of Bollywood's most talked-about scandals. What followed was not just a separation, but a bitter divorce packed with explosive allegations. Karisma accused Sunjay of infidelity. Sunjay, in turn, claimed the Zubeidaa star had married him for money. Their mudslinging was so intense it made daily headlines. Randhir Kapoor lashes out Never one to hold back, Karisma's father, Randhir Kapoor, publicly tore into his former son-in-law. In a fiery interview with Hindustan Times, he said, 'Sunjay is a third-class man. I never wanted Karisma to marry him. He has debauchery in his system and never cared for his wife. He has been giving bull*** to her, and living with another woman. The entire Delhi knows how he is.' His remarks came right after Sunjay accused Karisma of being a 'failed' wife, daughter-in-law, and mother, and even alleged she had an extramarital affair. The marriage and the split After tying the knot in 2003, Karisma moved to Delhi and had two children, Samaira and Kiaan. But by 2011, she had returned to Mumbai with them. The couple initially agreed on a mutual divorce, but Karisma withdrew when Sunjay allegedly failed to meet financial commitments under their settlement. Her lawyer, Kranti Sathe, dismissed Sunjay's accusations as 'false' and demanded he prove them in court. A twist after death Sunjay Kapur, former chairman of Sona Comstar, died in London on June 12, 2025. Barely two months later, his name resurfaced in headlines, this time over a staggering Rs 30,000 crore inheritance dispute. Reports suggest Karisma may be considering a legal claim to a share of his vast estate. Adding intrigue, Sunjay's stepdaughter — Priya Sachdev's daughter, Safira — recently changed her surname from 'Chatwal' to 'Kapur'. Insiders speculate this could be more than a personal choice, possibly a strategic play in the high-stakes property battle.
