The
West Indies cricket team
has fallen out of automatic qualification positions for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup in the latest ICC ODI Rankings, potentially facing another World Cup absence.
The rankings shift occurred after Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka in the second ODI at Colombo, successfully defending 248 runs with Taijul Islam's five-wicket performance.
The victory elevated Bangladesh to the ninth position in the men's ODI team rankings.
West Indies still have an opportunity to improve their ranking before the World Cup qualification deadline.

Currently positioned at 10th, West Indies are outside the automatic qualification spots for the 2027 World Cup. The tournament will feature 14 teams, with South Africa and Zimbabwe securing automatic qualification as host nations.
Namibia, despite being a host country, won't receive automatic qualification as they aren't a full-time ICC Test-playing member.
The top eight teams, excluding hosts, will qualify based on their ODI Rankings as of March 31, 2027. The remaining four spots will be determined through a qualifier tournament featuring 10 teams.

Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy: Gill, Akash script historic win against England at Edgbaston as India level series 1-1
Thanks to a brilliant spell by Akash Deep, supported by Washington Sundar and Mohammed Siraj, India secured a thumping 336 run victory over England to level the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series 1-1 in the second Test at Edgbaston. Akash lit up the morning with a fiery spell that rattled England early. In just his second over, he got Ollie Pope with a delivery that leapt awkwardly, struck the elbow, and clipped the stumps — a brutal blow to the hosts. Next came Harry Brook, undone by a sharp, low ball that jagged back in and pinned him lbw. The review couldn't save him — the ball was crashing into the top of middle on umpire's call. While Jamie Smith, fresh from a masterful 184*, counterattacked with three elegant boundaries off Akash, and Ben Stokes launched a flurry of fours against Siraj, the momentum was short-lived. Ravindra Jadeja spun a web around the duo, especially troubling Stokes — who has long struggled against the wily left-armer. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Overheid geeft huiseigenaren geld om dak te isoleren Isolatie Experts Meer lezen Undo But it was Washington Sundar who delivered the killer blow. Bowling the 40th over in under 100 seconds, Jadeja built the pressure, and Washington cashed in. With a delivery that dipped, turned, and skidded in, he trapped Stokes on the front foot. The review confirmed the inevitable — pad first, ball hitting middle. Stokes walked back stunned. India stood on the brink, and England's resistance was crumbling. Pakistan Likely To Be Sidelined From ICC-Backed Tournament. Reason Is...
Pakistan is likely to be sidelined from the World Clubs T20 Championship expected to be launched next year. A source aware of the developments said that the winning team in the Pakistan Super League was unlikely to be invited for the event which is being fast tracked with the blessings of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and its chairman Jay Shah. 'The Pakistan Cricket Board was invited to send its CEO of the PSL for a meeting held on the sidelines of the cricket connect meeting in London last month but no one showed up,' the source said. He said CEOs of most of the leading T20 franchise-based leagues gathered for the meeting held on the initiative of the English and Wales Cricket Board with the ICC's backing. 'Discussions were held on the proposed World Clubs Championship, its window, format, schedule etc. (The) CEOs of the Emirates League, Big Bash League, The Hundred, SA20, MLC, Caribbean Premier League etc attended the meeting. Pakistan was also invited,' he confirmed.] The source explained that initially the World Clubs event will be contested by five teams without any team from the Indian Premier League. 'Though the planned event has the backing of the Indian board but for the inaugural championship there will be no IPL participation.' The source said that the World Clubs Championship was apparently being fast tracked in a bid to derail the planned Saudi Cricket League. Private investors are planning to bankroll the Saudi League with an initial investment of $400 million but they are facing resistance as they want to have their league on the lines of the Tennis Grand Slam events every year. The source said the recent meeting was also important as CEOs had discussed fixed windows for their events, availability of NOCs for overseas players etc. 'The PCB didn't show up and strangely Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has also not regularly attended ICC meetings.'
