Aston Villa agree deal to sell women's team to owners

Yahoo23-07-2025
Aston Villa have agreed a deal to sell their women's team to V Sports in a bid to ease Premier League Profit and Sustainability concerns.
The deal, worth in the region of £55m, will see the women's side sold to V Sports, the parent company that owns Aston Villa.
The group, jointly ran by billionaire duo Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris, also owns stakes clubs including Real Union, Vitoria S.C, Vissel Kobe and ZED FC as part of their network.
The Athletic are reporting that Aston Villa have been looking into the sale of their women's side for 18 months in order to remain compliant with Premier League PSR.
The Villans have posted losses of £195million over the past two years and required revenue to avoid potential breaches. Chelsea performed a similar strategy when selling their women's side to BlueCo for £200m in June 2024. BlueCo own Chelsea
Earlier this month, The Times reported that the Premier League was looking to close the 'loophole' that allowed Chelsea to sell their women's team and on-site hotels to a sister company to comply with PSR.
It is worth noting that the regulations in the Premier League are different UEFA's rules. Europe's governing body does not accept the sale of assets to sister companies as revenue and have tighter restrictions on losses, wages and transfers. Aston Villa are currently working alongside UEFA to ensure their compliance, ahead of their 2025/26 Europa League campaign.

Those who invested in Castings (LON:CGS) five years ago are up 9.0%

Ideally, your overall portfolio should beat the market average. But every investor is virtually certain to have both over-performing and under-performing stocks. So we wouldn't blame long term Castings P.L.C. (LON:CGS) shareholders for doubting their decision to hold, with the stock down 23% over a half decade. On top of that, the share price is down 5.9% in the last week. However, this move may have been influenced by the broader market, which fell 2.6% in that time. Since shareholders are down over the longer term, lets look at the underlying fundamentals over the that time and see if they've been consistent with returns. Trump has pledged to "unleash" American oil and gas and these 15 US stocks have developments that are poised to benefit. While markets are a powerful pricing mechanism, share prices reflect investor sentiment, not just underlying business performance. One imperfect but simple way to consider how the market perception of a company has shifted is to compare the change in the earnings per share (EPS) with the share price movement. During the five years over which the share price declined, Castings' earnings per share (EPS) dropped by 16% each year. The share price decline of 5% per year isn't as bad as the EPS decline. So investors might expect EPS to bounce back -- or they may have previously foreseen the EPS decline. The image below shows how EPS has tracked over time (if you click on the image you can see greater detail). Before buying or selling a stock, we always recommend a close examination of historic growth trends, available here. What About Dividends? As well as measuring the share price return, investors should also consider the total shareholder return (TSR). Whereas the share price return only reflects the change in the share price, the TSR includes the value of dividends (assuming they were reinvested) and the benefit of any discounted capital raising or spin-off. Arguably, the TSR gives a more comprehensive picture of the return generated by a stock. In the case of Castings, it has a TSR of 9.0% for the last 5 years. That exceeds its share price return that we previously mentioned. This is largely a result of its dividend payments! A Different Perspective Investors in Castings had a tough year, with a total loss of 16% (including dividends), against a market gain of about 22%. However, keep in mind that even the best stocks will sometimes underperform the market over a twelve month period. Longer term investors wouldn't be so upset, since they would have made 1.7%, each year, over five years. It could be that the recent sell-off is an opportunity, so it may be worth checking the fundamental data for signs of a long term growth trend. While it is well worth considering the different impacts that market conditions can have on the share price, there are other factors that are even more important. Even so, be aware that Castings is showing 2 warning signs in our investment analysis , and 1 of those is potentially serious... We will like Castings better if we see some big insider buys. Lee urges 'ruthless' Donovan in Crocker rematch

Andy Lee has urged Paddy Donovan to be "ruthless" when he takes on Lewis Crocker for the vacant IBF welterweight world title on 13 September in Belfast. Donovan was in a commanding position when he first faced Crocker on 1 March but was disqualified at the end of the eighth round for punching after the bell, following two earlier points deductions for use of the head and elbow. Following his disqualification, Donovan's team successfully lobbied for a rematch which was granted by the IBF, but the result of the first fight stood. That first fight was a final eliminator for the title, but with Jaron 'Boots' Ennis since vacating to move up to the light-middleweight division, the title is now on the line for the rematch to be staged at Windsor Park. The opportunity to make up for his disappointment last time is a motivating factor but Lee, Donovan's head coach, does not believe his man needs to drastically change much as side from ending the argument as soon as the chance presents itself. "The tweaks are more on his (Crocker's) side," Lee told BBC Sport NI. "Does he become more aggressive or try to be more adventurous with his punch output? If he does, he's going to leave himself more open. "My advice to Paddy is to be ruthless and when you get your chance, take him out. He might have had the chance last time but was enjoying it too much, so now he has to go out there and grab his title." 'Fitting for Donovan to win world title in Belfast' It would be something of a full circle moment should Donovan emerge victorious as although a native of Limerick, Belfast has been something of a home venue. Five of his previous 15 professional contests have taken place in the city, including his debut back in 2019 - for which Lee was in his corner. Returning to Belfast for this huge night does not hold any fears for fighter and coach with Lee suggesting it would be fitting that Donovan is crowned world champion in the city. "I started out with Paddy as an amateur," he said of their journey together. "This is his sixth time fighting in Belfast and he's always had a great reception, so we feel at home here. I have a great affinity with Belfast, trained here many times and fought a couple of times myself, so it's a great boxing city. "It's beautiful that he (Donovan) started his career here and he'll win his world title here."
