Sohar: Sohar Aluminium on Sunday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Athar Healthcare Endowment Foundation to enhance cooperation in supporting priority health initiatives and projects in the Sultanate of Oman. This partnership aligns with joint efforts to promote the sustainability of healthcare services and contribute to the development of the health sector.
The agreement was signed by Ahmed Mohammed Al Kharousi, Director General of Human Resources and Corporate Affairs at Sohar Aluminium, and Ali Hassan Al Lawati, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Athar Foundation.
The MoU aims to establish a structured mechanism for directing donations and contributions within the framework of corporate social responsibility, supporting the establishment of sustainable healthcare projects based on clear national priorities. It ensures the effective utilisation of available resources to maximize impact.
Under the agreement, both parties will evaluate requests submitted by various healthcare institutions based on precise criteria to determine funding priorities. They will also monitor the implementation of approved projects and conduct studies to assess their social impact, measuring their effectiveness and contribution to Oman's healthcare system.
It is worth mentioning that Athar Healthcare Endowment Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting Oman's health sector through developmental initiatives that enhance the quality of healthcare services and promote integrated, sustainable healthcare delivery for the community.

Muscat: Muscat Taafi Centre, the main specialised facility in Oman to provide treatment and rehabilitation services for individuals recovering from addiction, was officially opened today in the Wilayat of Al Amerat. The inauguration took place under the auspices of Sayyid Saud Hilal Al Busaidi, Governor of Muscat. The project is part of Petroleum Development Oman's (PDO) social investment initiatives, implemented in partnership with Al Jisr Foundation and the Ministry of Health, and aligned with national efforts to strengthen mental health and infrastructure. The Centre delivers integrated care across three core stages: detoxification, rehabilitation and aftercare. The initiative is considered one of PDO's most significant community health contributions. PDO not only provided financial support amounting to RO 2.5 million, but also oversaw the project through its Project Management Consultancy team to ensure its delivery to the highest standards, on time and within the approved budget. With a total capacity of 130 beds, the facility includes 96 beds for men and 34 for women. It houses a detoxification unit, outpatient clinic, forensic medicine department, pharmacy, and administrative offices. The Centre also features a multipurpose hall, vocational training and craft workshops, and recreational facilities of physiotherapy programme such as a swimming pool and a fitness centre. In his speech, Dr. Yousef Al Farsi, Director General of Muscat Health, stated that the center represents a significant, advanced step towards enhancing the mental and social healthcare system in Oman. It focuses on providing an integrated package of specialized treatment and rehabilitation services for addiction recovery. The center offers a safe therapeutic environment and comprehensive programs based on a rigorous scientific approach aimed at building the individual's capacity for positive change. Al Farsi explained that the center's programs utilize the latest global methods and technologies in addiction recovery through a graduated treatment plan. This begins with a medically supervised detoxification phase, followed by a short-term rehabilitation phase focused on psychological support and strengthening self-stability. Finally, there is a long-term rehabilitation phase aimed at rebuilding a healthy and stable lifestyle, enabling individuals to integrate positively and effectively into the fabric of society. 'This approach seeks to provide real opportunities for a return to a normal, healthy life, thereby directly contributing to enhancing community safety and the psychological stability of society's members,' he concluded. Eng. Mohammed Ali Al Aghbari, PDO's External Affairs, Government Relations and Communications Manager stated, 'The launch of the Muscat Rehabilitation Centre represents an important step in advancing mental and behavioural healthcare services in Oman. We are proud of our partnership with the Ministry of Health and Al Jisr Foundation to deliver such an iconic project that supports the community while fulfilling our national responsibility and corporate values. She stressed that the centre is a testament to comprehensive partnership among public, private, and civil sectors, uniting efforts to serve a vital segment of the population in urgent need of support and safe reintegration. The Muscat Rehabilitation Centre offers a wide array of services, including medical, psychological, social, physiotherapy, and vocational therapy. Equipped with cutting-edge global technologies and practices in addiction recovery, it aims to mitigate the adverse effects of addiction and bolster Oman's broader anti-substance abuse initiatives. The project's first phase was funded by PDO with OMR 2.5 million, while Al Jisr Foundation contributed OMR 900,000 for the second phase, bringing the total cost to OMR 3.4 million. The Ministry of Health provided full outfitting, including furniture, medical devices, and IT equipment. The establishment of this centre responds to the escalating demand for expanded preventive, therapeutic, and rehabilitative services for individuals grappling with addiction, offered by the Ministry of Health. It also focuses on providing essential aftercare services and supporting patient reintegration into society. This collaborative effort among governmental, private, and civil society institutions aims to reduce stigma and fortify community support for affected individuals. Furthermore, the centre strategically eases the burden on other hospitals and reaffirms Oman's dedication to achieving the goals of Oman Vision 2040, particularly the objective of fostering a society with sustainable health and high-quality preventive and curative healthcare services. The Muscat Rehabilitation Center features five inpatient wards with a total capacity of 130 beds, comprising 96 for males and 34 for females. These include two detoxification units (20 male, 10 female beds) and two short-term rehabilitation units (66 male, 24 female beds). Additionally, the centre houses a forensic medicine department for men with 10 beds for compulsory treatment referrals and integrates services from the Rehabilitation House Center for a seven-month long-term program, offering up to 40 beds. Supporting facilities encompass a reception, registration, examination department, outpatient clinics with four consultation rooms, dedicated clinics for psychologists and social workers, a laboratory, pharmacy, security building, a multipurpose hall, vocational training workshops, and recreational areas.
