Coventry community wildlife mural vandalised by suspected tagger

BBC News2 days ago
A "stunning" wildlife mural created by local residents has been vandalised by what is thought to be a tagger. In August 2024, Warwickshire Wildlife Trust commissioned local artist Michael Batchelor to work with residents to create the mural under the brook bridge near Winslow Close in Eastern Green, Coventry. On 22 July, what was once an image of ducks among flowers and greenery, was covered in black paint with the words "pusher" written across the area in capital letters.Jordan Davies from the trust said he felt "equally disappointed and surprised" at the loss of the community artwork but says the trust would look at options to bring back the mural.
"We would absolutely love to see a scenario where we can recreate the mural and give it back to a local community where it was so loved."We can't make any promises but we're looking into it and we'd absolutely love to do something with the mural and see what we can do to put this right," he said. The new graffiti also read 'I'm always pushing' at the entrance to the underpass, along with an Instagram tag @pusherglobal in the top right, and a video of someone running alongside it posted to the account.
On Facebook, councillor Jayne Innes described the damaging of the mural as "a wanton act of vandalism" and encouraged anyone with information to contact the police on 101 or her directly."On Tuesday a wanton piece of vandalism destroyed most of the mural. The police are investigating this as criminal damage"The stunning mural was much loved by residents - adults and children alike," her post read.Mr Davies said the loss of the mural was a blow to the community."We all equally felt disappointed and surprised for the loss of our community mural, which was a lovely nature mural."We're all quite saddened to see a sudden change to it," he said.

Jesse Richards' mum in 'living nightmare' over missing body

A woman whose son was killed 16 years ago has said she is in a "living nightmare" while his body remains missing. Jesse Richards was killed in Cleeve Prior, Evesham, on 31 July 2009 in an attack over a drugs debt, police at West Mercia Police suspect his body was then taken to Warwickshire and hidden, with the whereabouts of his remains unknown to this day. Five men were jailed over his death in 2012, with three convicted of Richards, whose son would have been 56 this year, said: "Every year I get older, my time shortens and the likelihood of me ever recovering Jesse lessens." She added: "Never having recovered him and my time running out is the living nightmare I face every day."Asking for fresh information, she said: "I make this appeal to anyone with any humanity to put an end to my suffering. If you know anything and have a shred of decency, please, come forward." 'Right thing to do' A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said the force was "still as committed today" as it was 16 years ago to finding the Insp Gareth Evans said: "Despite the time that has passed, the desire to assist in the recovery of Jesse Richards remains strong because it's the right thing to do."All those convicted of involvement in Jesse's death have since been released from their custodial sentences, Jesse's family still live with their loss and inability to put him to rest."While circumstances have changed for them, they could also have changed for others involved or perhaps for their families, yet nothing changes for Lucy Richards. "Someone knows what happened to Jesse and where he is. By not coming forward, you are depriving a family of the closure they so need and desire." Ex-Celtic ace ‘one of FOUR team-mates involved with same fan' as club react to claim he cheated on wife at gas station

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) FORMER Celtic star Alexandro Bernabei is at the centre of a storm in Brazil amid allegations he cheated on his wife with a blonde fan of new club Internacional at a gas station. And incredibly, it's claimed the former Hoops star is one of FOUR members of the same team who are involved with the same woman, who is said to be the daughter of a businessman linked to the club. But the blonde fan in question, as quoted in various outlets, alleges that the player arrived at the meeting point in an Amarok V6 pickup truck with things "quickly escalating to kissing and sexual conversations in the car". It's a scandal which has rocked Brazil in recent days, with Internacional even attempting to laugh it off with a social media post which read: "Whether by bus, van, or Amarok, grab three more friends and come to Beira-Rio!" Bernabei signed for the Hoops from from Argentine side Lanus in 2022 for £3.75m and was expected to potentially dislodge Greg Taylor from the left-back slot. But after only 28 appearances in just under two full seasons at Parkhead he was sent on loan to Internacional in Brazil, where his performances earned a permanent deal with a fee in the region of £5m in January. He's become a massive hero with the club's fans - but this report could put that reputation at risk. It's claimed that the woman in question reached out to Bernabei's wife with an Instagram message after the incident. Backed up by screenshots of social media messages apparently exchanged between the pair, a report first aired in Portal LeoDias reads: "According to reports and screenshots obtained by our team, the Argentine player allegedly cheated on his wife with a blonde fan in an extramarital encounter on July 10th at a gas station in the south zone of Porto Alegre. It adds: "According to the woman, Bernabei used Instagram's temporary mode to automatically delete conversations between the two, in an attempt to avoid any kind of recording. "The meeting place was chosen because it was private, away from the city's hustle and bustle, and the player arrived at the meeting point in an Amarok V6 pickup truck. Shock scenes as Celtic and Ajax fans clash during Como Cup friendly tournament in Italy "In her account, the fan claims that the atmosphere between the two quickly escalated to kissing and sexual conversations in the car. "She also points out that Bernabei maintains contact with other women and acts deliberately to keep his wife's attention away." The woman in question is quoted as telling reporters: "I could tell: he wasn't just mine. This guy is a jerk. He's chatting with several women, exchanging messages with other women, fans." "He completely disregards his wife's suspicions. He denies it to the end, puts on a saintly front, and plays the victim." She claims that Bernabei promised to do it again, saying: 'I went to get out of the car and he pulled me back to kiss me some more and said he was going to call me to see me again. She added: "I even told [his wife], Look I'm sorry, I made a mistake with you. "I'm coming here to tell you all this, I made a mistake but I'm telling you this." 4 The woman contacted Benabei's wife Credit: Portal LeoDias "I ended up regretting it but she didn't believe me and that was it. I ave a boyfriend but I had a fight with him, we weren't together at the time. It wasn't a matter of me cheating. "People are judging me, saying I wanted fame. The last thing I want is that. I don't want to be seen. I don't want anyone to know my name. I'm coming here precisely because I wasn't the only one." Bernabei has shared numerous snaps of himself with his partner on social media, writing: 'The most sacred thing: family!!!' Back in August 2023, he was fined £1,875 after he was found to be driving when more than twice over the limit. He was picked up by cops in Glasgow city centre after the Hoops' 5-0 win at Kilmarnock with 48 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when the limit is 22 micrograms.
