Bengaluru: The South Western Railway has announced the expansion of the Kacheguda–Yesvantpur–Kacheguda Vande Bharat Express, a premier high-speed train service between Hyderabad and Bengaluru. Starting July 10, the train will operate with 16 coaches, doubling its capacity to accommodate 1,128 passengers.
Previously running with just 8 coaches and a seating capacity of 530 passengers, the Vande Bharat Express on this route will now feature 14 Chair Cars (1,024 seats) and 2 Executive Class coaches (104 seats). This move is aimed at meeting the increasing demand from passengers traveling between the two major IT hubs of South India.
Train No. 20703/20704 was initially launched with 1 Executive Coach and 7 Chair Cars. Responding to the significant rise in passenger demand, the railway authorities have decided to add 8 more coaches to the rake. Speaking on the development, Sandeep Mathur, General Manager, South Western Railway, said: 'Doubling the number of coaches will greatly enhance the availability of seats for passengers travelling between Bengaluru and Hyderabad. This expansion will improve travel convenience for IT professionals, business travellers, and tourists alike.'
The Vande Bharat Express between Kacheguda and Yesvantpur was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 24, 2023. With this latest upgrade, the train service promises a more comfortable and efficient journey for a larger number of travelers.
The railway authorities have assured that all new coaches are equipped with modern amenities and safety features, maintaining the premium standards of Vande Bharat trains. This enhancement is a part of the broader initiative to boost regional connectivity and promote faster, safer travel in South India.

NSE International Exchange set for first foreign-currency listing

India's NSE International Exchange is aiming to attract its first equity listing in a foreign currency this quarter, a milestone it says will demonstrate a new fundraising avenue for firms. ADVERTISEMENT The NSE IX exchange, situated in the financial hub of Gujarat International Finance Tec-City, or GIFT City, is initially targeting unlisted companies for the debut, chief executive officer V. Balasubramaniam said in an interview. These may be Indian firms with foreign holdings or even Silicon Valley or Delaware-based entities, he said, without providing any names. GIFT City is an initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi aimed at positioning India as a global financial hub to rival Dubai or Hong Kong. The zone offers exemptions from certain taxes and regulatory restrictions, making it a more attractive for international capital raising. A number of Chinese companies have gone ahead with international listings in Hong Kong, and some of them have now become global multinationals, Balasubramaniam said. 'It's the same opportunity that GIFT City is offering to Indian corporates.' There are five to six companies preparing to list, he said. The planned listing will help underscore the growing sophistication of India's capital markets and offer companies an alternative to domestic exchanges. A foreign-currency listing in GIFT City may also benefit Indian firms looking to expand globally by reducing currency conversion and hedging costs. ADVERTISEMENT The Securities and Exchange Board of India is working with the International Financial Services Centres Authority — GIFT City's unified regulator — to address outstanding regulatory issues, Balasubramaniam said. Once resolved, this will enable already listed Indian companies to raise capital on the international exchanges, he said.'An Indian company that is already listed can decide to do a follow-on public offering in GIFT City as a separate dollar float, or it could do an offer for sale,' he said. ADVERTISEMENT Indian companies have previously accessed overseas markets primarily through instruments such as American depository receipts. Firms in the nation raised more than $20 billion via initial share sales last absence of securities transaction and capital gains taxes in GIFT City is another major incentive for foreign investors, Balasubramaniam said. Jitendra calls for paradigm shift in agriculture sector

New Delhi: Technology in agriculture has progressed rapidly under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership over the past 11 years, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said on Monday, calling for a paradigm shift in the agriculture sector by embracing cutting-edge technology and fostering greater synergy among stakeholders. Addressing the 96th annual general meeting of the ICAR Society at the NASC Complex in the capital, the minister said its full potential remained untapped at the ground level. Speaking at the event, chaired by Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Dr Singh underscored that every technology available globally is now accessible within India. 'It is no longer about whether technology is available—it is about how fast we adopt it and integrate it into our agricultural ecosystem to add value to our economy,' he told the gathering. The Minister stressed the importance of breaking mental and institutional silos, noting that many in the agriculture value chain are not just unaware of new technologies, but also unaware that they are unaware. Pointing to success stories like the Lavender Revolution in Jammu and Kashmir, where over 3,500 startups have emerged around lavender cultivation, Dr Singh emphasised how new-age farming — using satellite imaging, remote-controlled tractors, and order-based crop production — is reshaping the agricultural narrative. 'From lavender in Bhaderwah to off-season tulips grown for temple offerings, we have examples where science and strategy have combined to generate both income and innovation,' he noted. He also highlighted that biotech-driven advances, such as pest-resistant cotton developed through Department of Biotechnology initiatives and radiation-based food preservation techniques by the Department of Atomic Energy, are redefining how produce is grown, stored, and exported. 'Our mangoes now fly to the US thanks to these technologies. And yet, many states have not come forward to fully exploit these tools,' he observed. Dr Singh proposed more frequent and informal cross-ministerial interactions to ensure real-time exchange of innovations. 'We should not wait for annual meetings alone. Let's create working groups and reach out when solutions can be shared, spontaneously and practically,' he urged.

China in sight, PM Modi urges BRICS to thwart 'weaponisation' of critical minerals

NEW DELHI: With China's dominance over global rare earth supplies looming large, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday issued a pointed call for BRICS nations to ensure that critical mineral supply chains remain secure, reliable, and free from geopolitical coercion. Speaking at the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Modi warned against the weaponisation of strategic resources, stating: 'It's important to ensure that no country uses these resources for its own selfish gain or as a weapon against others.' The statement, delivered during a session on multilateralism, economic governance, and artificial intelligence, could be seen as a veiled reference to China, which currently controls over 90% of the world's rare earth processing capacity. However, the Prime Minister did not name any country. Modi's remarks come amid rising global concerns over China's recent export controls on rare earth metals — critical components for clean energy, electric vehicles, and advanced electronics — which many view as a geopolitical tool to exert economic pressure. India, alongside Brazil, Russia, China, and South Africa, is a founding member of the expanded 11-nation BRICS bloc. The Prime Minister urged the alliance to work collectively to de-risk supply chains and foster greater technological cooperation: 'We need to work together to make supply chains for critical minerals and technology secure and reliable.' Beyond minerals, Modi also pressed for sweeping reforms to global governance institutions, calling on bodies such as the United Nations Security Council, IMF, World Bank, and WTO to reflect the shifting power balance and aspirations of the Global South. 'It's time that international institutions mirror 21st-century realities and give a stronger voice to developing nations,' Modi asserted. India has been actively seeking alternatives to reduce dependency on Chinese mineral supply lines, viewing Beijing's control as both a strategic vulnerability and a catalyst for economic realignment among like-minded nations. The summit concluded Monday evening with consensus on enhancing multilateral cooperation, though divisions on critical minerals and trade controls remain under the surface.
