Kartal* 3-4 Pavlyuchenkova
It's taken a while but the Russian gets her nose back in front after surviving four break points.
To be fair to Pavluchenkova, she does not let Kartal really get in charge of any of those points and a netted forehand from the Brit brings frustrated gasps from the fans.

Kartal 3-3 Pavlyuchenkova*
This is already a roller-coaster of a set, with four breaks of serve from just six games.
The Russian pounces on a short serve, smashing her return down the line to earn the chance and converts with a deft volley despite some desperate scrambling by Kartal behind the baseline.

No play before 2.30pm
As expected, that 'not before' time for play on the outside courts has been pushed back.
It is showing as not before 2.30pm - rather than 2.15pm.
Good news from us here at SW19: it has stopped raining!
And it actually looks rather pleasant out there now.
Hopefully the weather stays like this for the rest of the afternoon...

Kartal* 3-2 Pavlyuchenkova
Kartal has 15,000 fans in her corner, and they whoop with delight as she races to the net to flick one onto the baseline and get to 0-30.
A Pavlyuchenkova error gives the Brit two break points and she only needs one of them, as the Russian's cross court forehand drifts wide. What a turnaround. Game on!

Kartal 2-2 Pavlyuchenkova*
No signs that the strapping is anything more than precautionary now as Kartal levels.
It's already a battle for dominance with both players wanting to take the initiative.
But Kartal is backing herself from a defensive position as well, unleashing a terrific forehand pass before the Russian is wide on game point.

Thompson retires
Oh, this is very sad to see.
The damage done to his leg is too painful for him to continue.
He walks to the net after giving it a go for three points to call it a day.
Sad scenes - but Fritz will be relieved.
He is through after 41 minutes.

Kartal* 1-2 Pavlyuchenkova
That's more like it and an instant break back as Kartal gets on the front foot for the first time.
Pavlyuchenkova's serve are all returned with interest to bring three break points as Kartal finds her depth and a weak drop shot attempt from the 34-year-old Russian barely reaches the net.
Roars of the crowd tell their own story

Kartal 0-2 Pavlyuchenkova*
Not the start Kartal was looking for as the power of the Russian breaks through alongside the first rays of sunshine through the roof.
Pavlyuchenkova has weight of shot on both wings and she is already forcing the Brit back.
Kartal saves the first beak point and looks to have escaped the second with a lob but an overhead backhand voley drops beyond the home player and lands inside the lines

Brighter... but still raining
The huge roars of thunder seem to have stopped.
And it is definitely a lot brighter than it was ten minutes ago.
However, it is still raining. Hmmm.
Currently no play on the outside courts before 2.15pm, which feels somewhat... ambitious.

Uh oh, this is bad news for Jordan Thompson.
He has called the trainer to the court at the change of ends down 3-0.
The Aussie has heavy strapping on his thighs and is removing that tape as he gets the pushed and prodded around by the doc.
Will keep an eye on this.

Fritz Blitz alert.
The No5 seed is racing through on No1 - and making the most of the roof.
He raced through the first set 6-1 in just 21 minutes and already has the double break in the second.

Ripple of applause as the Russian easily holds to love with Kartal getting a solitary shot in play. Long way to go, mind.

Kartal* 0-1 Pavlyuchenkova
So here we go. The roof is closed for the first time in daylight this Championships and you winder if it might get a bit too much for Sonay Kartal on her Centre Court debut.
Thunder and lightning above. And a tense atmosphere inside.
While there was a single ranking place between the pair before the tournament, Pavlyuchenkova first played at Wimbledon in 2007 - when Kartal was in primary school.
Kartal came out to a big ovation as the rain poured down outside. But she has heavy strapping around her right knee. Could that be a factor.

Sonay Kartal knee update
Eagle-eyed fans among you may have noticed the heavy strapping around Sonay Kartal's knee.
Following her doubles match alongside Jodie Burrage yesterday, Kartal said: "(The tape) is just precaution. I am testing it out in the match today to see whether or not I like it.
"I'm all good. It took a lot for me to come out of doubles retirement."

Kartal knee heavily strapped
Sonay Kartal is about to step out on to Centre Court for her first match on this famous court.
But she has her right knee heavily, heavily strapped.
She played down the significance after her doubles yesterday but that level of bandaging cannot be great news...

Play suspended on outside courts
Oh no, the rain has finally arrived!
Karen Khachanov managed to breeze through his match in straight sets, but play has been suspended after just four points of the subsequent No2 Court clash between Solana Sierra and Laura Siegemund.
It's raining pretty heavily and it could be a while before play resumes.
Blimey, there's also some loud thunder sounding too! This is pretty grim at the All England Club.

Royal Box honours Olympic and Paralympic stars
It was Sporting Saturday in the Royal Box yesterday.
And plenty more GB Olympics and Paralympics are honoured at the All England Club today.
That includes pool stars Izzy Thrope, Kieran Bird, Jack McMillan plus 4x200m freestyle quartet James Guy, Tom Dean, Matt Richards and Duncan Scott.
Paralympic stars Finlay Graham, Jenny Holl and Hannah Cockroft are also in the posh seats.
Tennis duo Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewett will watch from the VIP area, as do sporting heroes Brian Lara and Mark Foster.
And a special mention to the wonderful Chris Kamara, who is here too.
The roof is on over Centre Court, too - because of the rain.

Sonay Kartal's impressive Wimbledon run ended by Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova
Sonay Kartal's fine Wimbledon run ended with a fourth-round loss to Russian veteran Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Kartal was eventually overpowered by the 34-year-old former French Open finalist in a 7-6 (3) 6-4 defeat, but the result was overshadowed by a problem with the electronic line-calling system that led Pavlyuchenkova to allege home bias. On game point serving at 4-4, Pavlyuchenkova was convinced a Kartal shot had landed long but the technology was not working at the time – which Wimbledon organisers later attributed to human error – and the point was replayed. Pavlyuchenkova went on to lose the game, leaving Kartal serving for the opening set, and she furiously told umpire Nico Helwerth at the change of ends: 'Because she is local, they can say whatever. You took the game away from me.' The controversy did not cost Pavlyuchenkova in the end, with the Russian reaching the quarter-finals at the All England Club for the first time in nine years. While she had hoped to go further, the consolation for Kartal is that she will hit a new career-high ranking next Monday of around 44 and will surpass her childhood rival Emma Raducanu as British number two. Kartal could not have had a more dramatic entrance for her first time on Centre Court, with a huge clap of thunder reverberating around the arena as she strode out. It must have been a pinch-me moment for the 23-year-old, who this time last year was ranked down at 298 and had to make her way through qualifying. Kartal had started slowly in all her matches and it was the same here, with Pavlyuchenkova, who made her Wimbledon debut back in 2007, moving into a 2-0 lead. The Russian is a pure ball striker but not as mobile as Kartal, who could take confidence from having beaten a similar type of player in Jelena Ostapenko in the opening round. She quickly settled into the contest and used her speed and intelligent point construction to edge her way into the lead with a run of three games in a row, despite heavy strapping on her right knee. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova celebrates her victory (Adam Davy/PA) The crowd, which included another raft of sporting figures in the Royal Box plus Kartal's doubles partner Jodie Burrage in her box, responded with a roar, but Pavlyuchenkova is a very experienced campaigner and she pounded her opponent's second serve to get back on level terms. The contest could not have been more finely balanced when technology became the third player. It appeared the blunder might cost the Russian the set, but Kartal could not convert a set point and a determined Pavlyuchenkova was the stronger player in the tie-break. The set took 68 minutes, and the early stages of the second saw Pavlyuchenkova begin to take control. Kartal tried to find a way back into the contest but Pavlyuchenkova was ultimately too strong, the Russian clinching victory with her 36th winner.

'They stole it' - Wimbledon star fumes in outburst over huge controversy
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova was left seething after a significant technical glitch during her match against Sonay Kartal, where she claimed the line calling system had 'robbed' her of a point. The contentious moment unfolded in the first set of their women's fourth round clash, with the score tied at 4-4. Kartal hit a ball that appeared to be out, but the lack of a call meant Pavlyuchenkova missed out on clinching the game. The players were instructed to replay the point, and to add insult to injury, Kartal managed to break Pavlyuchenkova's serve shortly afterwards. The Russian player didn't hold back when confronting umpire Nico Helwerth during the changeover. Pavlyuchenkova was visibly upset and could be overheard arguing: "I don't know if it's in or it's out. How do I know? How can you prove it? Because she is local, they can say whatever. You took the game away from me." Helwerth tried to explain: "I have to trust the system. If they tell me it's up and running there's nothing we can do. That's the rule unfortunately." Still incensed, Pavlyuchenkova retorted: "They stole a game from me. They stole it." Despite Kartal capitalising on the mistake, which caused a considerable delay, Pavlyuchenkova fought back to take a 6-5 lead as they battled to win the first set. Kartal, however, remained composed and held her serve to push the set to a tie-break, reports the Mirror. Tracey Austin, a two-time Grand Slam champion, commented on the difficulty Pavlyuchenkova would have in overcoming the frustration caused by such a glaring error without letting it impact her performance. "That is rough for Pavlyuchenkova," she remarked on BBC Sport. "Now you have the job of trying to compose yourself when you know that you should have been a game up. "This is a mountain to overcome mentally." Yet, Pavlyuchenkova did just that, clinching the first set tie-break 7-3 to seize the upper hand in her clash against Britain's No 3. The introduction of automated line calls at Wimbledon has divided opinions this season, and the blunder on Centre Court comes after Emma Raducanu voiced her concerns about the technology following her third-round loss to Aryna Sabalenka. "Yeah, I mean, that call [against Sabalenka] was, like, for sure out," Raducanu expressed in her post-match press conference. "It's kind of disappointing, the tournament here, that the calls can be so wrong. "For the most part they've been okay. It's just, like, I've had a few in my other matches, too, that have been very wrong. So yeah, I don't know. Hopefully they can kind of fix that." Pavlyuchenkova went on to win the game 7-6 (3) 6-4.
