Stricter Aadhar issuance rules in a few days: Assam CM
The Chief Minister said this on his X handle today and added that the move is being done to ensure that no infiltrator can legally obtain the card and disturb India's harmony.
"Infiltrator Mukt Assam is our goal and we will NOT STOP till it is attained," Sarma said on his X handle.
"We are adopting a multi-pronged strategy to detect illegal immigrants--regulating Aadhar issuance via DCs is just one step we are taking in this direction," Sarma said on his X handle.
"Almost all the adult population in Assam have already obtained an Aadhar card. Whoever gets birth, young people, kids etc. they will require Aadhar cards. But suddenly if a 50 year old male comes and asks for an Aadhar card, then it raises questions. Henceforth for adult people Aadhar will be issued only after the satisfaction of the District Commissioner. So far it was issued by the SDC office, now we are making it a little tougher. The issuance will be after specific satisfaction of the District Commissioner," said Sarma.
The Chief Minister however, said that the government is also making an exception for the tea garden population where almost 50000 adult people are yet to get Aadhar cards.
The Chief Minister's statement came recently after the issue was discussed in the state cabinet last week.
Last week, the Assam Chief Minister after attending a cabinet meeting, told the media that the government is planning to make the Aadhar card issuance rules stricter to ensure that the illegal infiltrators cannot obtain an Aadhar card, a vital national identity document.
The development assumes significance considering the fact that the Assam government had recently intensified its operation against the illegal foreigners and pushed back several illegal foreigners to their country of domicile.

23rd Regional meet of OPCW concludes in New Delhi
New Delhi, July 3 (UNI) The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, a prime implementing body of the Chemical Weapons Convention, had organized its Asia meeting in New Delhi from July 1-3. India is an official member of the OPCW. National Authority Chemical Weapons Convention (NACWC) is responsible for organizing the convention in India. The Indian Chemical Council (ICC) works closely with NACWC to implement the standards set by the governing OPCW. Regional meetings of the OPCW are held annually to oversee the capacity building of the national authorities. These conferences are an opportunity to exchange experiences for the smooth implementation of CWC ( Chemical Weapons Convention) practices. The 23rd regional meeting of the OPCW was hosted in the presence of senior OPCW officials, delegates from national authorities across Asia, senior officials of the External Affairs Ministry, Cabinet Secretariat, and the NACWC were present. Moreover, this conference was attended by 38 delegates from 24 Asian countries, including Australia, China, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Cambodia, Iraq, India, Japan, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Myanmar, Maldives, Philippines, Oman, Korea, Thailand, UAE or United Arab Emirates and Vietnam. Senior officials from the OPCW and the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific (UNRCPD) also attended this meeting. During this three-day summit, delegates exchanged their experiences and discussed the key opportunities lying in this domain. This meeting is expected to foster strong regional cooperation between Asian countries while following the set standards of the OPCW. PM Modi arrives in Port of Spain, welcomed by PM Kamala Persad Bissessar and entire cabinet
Port of Spain/New Delhi, July 3 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Port of Spain, on a two-day visit to Trinidad and Tobago, and in a special gesture, was welcomed at the airport by Prime Minister Kamala Persad Bissessar and the entire cabinet. PM Modi, in a post on X, thanked the T&T PM and her cabinet for the special welcome, and said the visit will further cement bilateral ties between the two nations. 'Landed in Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago. I thank Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, distinguished members of the Cabinet and MPs for the gesture of welcoming me at the airport. 'This visit will further cement bilateral ties between our nations. Looking forward to addressing a community programme in a few hours from now.'
