Pride Month: 10 OPM songs to hype you up as you live your most fabulous life

GMA Network2 days ago

Pride Month brings up classic anthems like "I'm Coming Out" by Diana Ross, "Cut to the Feeling" by Carly Rae Jepsen, and "Believe" by Cher, which are all bangers the LGBT+ community has come to love and relate to.
Pride Month is both a protest and a celebration. And taking to the streets to march as the most fabulous and unapologetic version of yourself just simply requires a soundtrack.
Here are 10 songs to hype you up before Pride March, or to listen to when you need that extra rainbow kick!
1. 'Reyna' by Michelle Dee
Who else has got "Reyna" stuck in their heads?
Michelle Dee's debut single is one to keep in your Pride Month playlist. The bisexual icon created an empowering song about rising above losses and knowing in yourself that you are, in fact, a queen.
Fab lyrics: "Mas maraming talo
Kaysa sa Panalo
Ang hirap magpakatotoo
Kung bawat kilos ko'y minamata
Nakaabang matalo ang mga mapanghusga
Dinadaan ko na lang sa ngiti at pangdededma"
2. 'Ganda Gandahan' by Dia Mate
"Ganda Gandahan" is the campy pop song for the face card that never declines. Dia Mate sings about how there is a lot of hate and harassment in the world but one thing is for sure—your beauty.
Fab lyrics: "Andaming bobo sa mundo
Andami pang namamastos
Tumatalak, ngunit walang
Ambag sa buhay kong ito
Oh, di ko mapigilan
Ang gulugod ng lipunan
Ay ang obrang kagandahan kong ito"
3. 'Hot Maria Clara' by Sanya Lopez
Another song that has been stuck in people's heads lately is Sanya Lopez's 2022 single, "Hot Maria Clara." The First Lady of Primetime released a danceable single about knowing your worth and not settling for less.
Fab lyrics: "'Cause I'm hot Maria Clara
Like kotseng magara, don't need a mekaniko
I'm hot Maria Clara, 'di basta sasama
You think I'm maloloko
Understand, I don't do one-night stands
I'm hot Maria Clara, demure na dalaga
And boy, you should know my worth
Awra!"
4. 'AmaFilipina' by Marina Summers
Marina Summers created a new queer anthem during her time on "Drag Race UK vs. the World." The drag artist, or Filipina Winnah, flexed her Pinoy pride and beauty to the tune of Maymay Entrata's "AmaKabogera."
Fab lyrics: "Born in an island and raised by the seas
Gold in my skin I'm the Filipina Queen
AMAFILIPINA
I'm rising like a winnah
Ain't nobody bringing this morena to the ground"
5. 'Dapat Pakak' by the cast of 'Drag Race Philippines' Season 3
"Drag Race Philippines" is home to countless LGBT+ songs. The latest season in 2024 birthed "Dapat Pakak," wherein all the drag artists introduced themselves and their pasts, and sang that they got what it takes to be a top queen.
Fab lyrics: "Dapat pakak everybody look at me
Dapat pakak I'm sickening and dazzling
Dapat pakak gonna keep on fighting
Cause my crown will keep on shining
Kaya dapat pakak"
6. ''Di Ka Sayang' by Ben&Ben
"'Di Ka Sayang" is a song that resonated with the LGBT+ community. Ben&Ben touched on themes of pretending and not being accepted by society in the folk pop song, but knowing that there are people on your side who love and accept you.
Fab lyrics: "Di ka sayang
Di kailangang manghinayang
Di ka sayang
Di kailangang patunayang
Sarili ay mahalaga
Kahit pa anong tingin nila
Tanggap kita"
7. 'Sirena' by Gloc-9 and Ebe Dancel
"Sirena" by Gloc-9 and Ebe Dancel is now one of the most popular LGBT+ anthems in the Philippines, and for great reason. The artists did not hold back when discussing the abuse the community has to go through on a daily basis, even enduring this from their own families.
Fab lyrics: "'Di sinusukat ang tapang at ang bigote sa mukha
Dahil kung minsan mas lalaki pa sa lalaki ang bakla"
8. 'Rampa' by Vice Ganda
Vice Ganda is here to make you unkabogable! Everybody's favorite Meme Vice gives a reminder that life is a runway, to always move with confidence, and believe in yourself.
Fab lyrics: "Walk with confidence lumakad nang may angas
Strike a pose umawra nang wagas yeah
Tapangan ang mata talbog lahat sila
Own the moment damhin ang musika
Life is your runway gotta walk and slay
Own your spot show the crowd your way"
9. 'bbgirl' by BP Valenzuela, August Wahh, and No Rome
BP Valenzuela, August Wahh, and No Rome's "bbgirl" is straight out of coming-of-age movie. The dreamy track is all about falling in love with a girl, and how she never leaves your mind.
Fab lyrics: "Come and stay the night you seem like you could treat me right
And you could be the kind of girl
That sends me swirling into life
I've found that I could be impulsive just if I could find the time
And if you've got that time, then I got that time, baby girl"
10. 'Balang Araw' by Nica Del Rosario
In the mellow track "Balang Araw," Nica Del Rosario sings about the feelings of being part of the LGBT+ community. She gets personal about falling in love, but also sad that their love is not accepted by society. Nica also sings about the hope that one day, everyone will love loudly regardless of gender, sexuality, and other factors.
Fab lyrics: "At balang araw
Ang ating pag-iisang dibdib
Sa buong mundo, ito'y may halaga
Pero sa ngayon, ikaw ay akin
At ako'y iyo at ito'y may halaga pa rin"

Did Klarisse de Guzman plan to come out in PBB?

Klarisse de Guzman came out as bisexual early on in her stay inside the Pinoy Big Brother House and on "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda" Thursday, Klang as she has become known, admitted she knew she was going to come out inside Kuya's house. "Planado in a way," she answered Tito Boy. "Bago ako pumasok ng bahay, alam ko pong gagawin ko siya. I was really sure, ready po ako. Hinihintay ko na lang yung tamang timing para sabihin sa kanilang lahat," she added, saying she really wanted to be comfortable with the rest of the housemates before coming out. It was seeing Michelle Dee inside the house that Klang felt the timing was right. The Miss Universe Philippines 2023, who became a house guest of the PBB Celebrity Collab Edition in April, came out as bisexual during Pride Month 2023. "And nung nakita ko po si Michelle, na-feel ko po na this is it," Klang said on Fast Talk. When asked why, the singer said she didn't want to harbor any secrets when she leaves the house. "Gusto ko na paglabas ko ng bahay, wala na kong tinatago. Ang hirap po kasi na for the longest time, meron kang something na tinatago sa dibdib mo," Klang said. "And now masasabi kong I'm really happy and so proud na nagawa ko po yon. And now wala na kong tinatago." In the confession room last April, the singer said she identified as bisexual and in fact has a partner of four years. Klang, along with Shuvee Etrata, are the latest evictees of PBB. Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition" airs new episodes on GMA Network at 10 p.m. weekdays and at 6:15 p.m. on weekends. — LA, GMA Integrated News

Michelle Dee is a doll in 'Reyna' Pride Version; Melanie Marquez cameos

This Barbie is a Reyna! Michelle Dee tapped on her inner doll for the Pride Version of her debut single, 'Reyna.' The new music video featured the actress and beauty queen in bright outfits, getting all dolled up in a colorful neighborhood. To add to the fun, Michelle's mother, Melanie Marquez also made a cameo in the music video and danced to the choreography. 'Reyna' dropped in March. It reached Spotify's Viral Songs Philippines chart in April. Michelle performed the song at various events including the Bench Body of Work fashion show and the drag artist venue O Bar. She is set to perform the song at Pride PH's LOVE3LABAN or Pride Festival in UP Diliman on Saturday. —Nika Roque/JCB, GMA Integrated News
