Mark Zuckerberg sparks backlash after $300 million superyacht is spotted off US coast: 'Look what all your data got him'
A TikTok video showing Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's superyacht is making people quite mad.
The clip shared by John Gregoriou (@johnnygregoriou) shows a huge white yacht cruising near Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
This huge, luxurious vehicle is reportedly Zuckerberg's 390-foot-long vessel, Launchpad, which is said to have cost around $300 million to build and a further $30 million a year to maintain.
Oh, and if that wasn't enough, it comes with its own support yacht called Wingman.
So, yes, people were kind of frustrated.
Private yachts are some of the biggest carbon polluters on the planet, and most billionaires treat them like toys, even though they harm the environment.
Regular people are being told to bike more and recycle, while some of the richest keep living large with seemingly little concern for what the consequences are. We're dealing with a huge double standard here.
This isn't the first time a celebrity has been criticized over their carbon footprint, either. Private jets, mega-mansions, and now superyachts all come with huge environmental costs, and they don't seem to be going anywhere in celebrity circles.
But moments like this can also serve as reminders that real climate solutions aren't just about individual choices; they're about changing systems and holding the biggest polluters accountable.

Whew, it's been a crazy few weeks for us at Engadget. School may still be out, but there's no summer break for the steady stream of new gadgets coming across our desks. I'll forgive you if you missed a review or two over the last few weeks — we've been busy. Here's a quick rundown of what we've been up to, just in time for you to catch up over the weekend. The Z Flip 7 has decent battery life, bigger screens and more AI smarts. UK bureau chief Mat Smith noted that the company managed to provide a substantial overhaul, but there are some areas that were left untouched. "Certain aspects of the Flip 7 are lacking, most notably the cameras, which haven't been changed since last year," he said. "Samsung also needs to put more work into its Flex Window." There are some solid upgrades that will appeal to serious athletes and power users, but they don't quite justify the higher price. $399 at Meta Meta's first non-Ray-Ban smart glasses have arrived. While we wait for a more affordable version to get here, senior editor Karissa Bell put the white and gold option through its paces. "While I don't love the style of the Oakley Meta HSTN frames, Meta has shown that it's been consistently able to improve its glasses," she wrote. "The upgrades that come with the new Oakley frames aren't major leaps, but they deliver improvements to core features." DJI's Osmo 360 is a worthy rival to Insta360's X5, thanks to the innovative sensor and 8K 50 fps video. However, the editing app still needs some work. $530 at DJI Reporter Steve Dent argued that DJI is finally giving Insta360 some competition in the 360-degree action cam space. The design and performance of the Osmo 360 are great, but the problem comes when it's time to edit. "The all-new DJI Studio app also needs some work," he explained. "For a first effort, though, the Osmo 360 is a surprisingly solid rival to Insta360's X5." The Nothing Phone 3 might be the company's first 'true flagship,' but several specs don't match that flagship moniker. The bigger screen, battery and new Glyph Matrix make it a major step up from Phone 2, but camera performance is erratic and you'd expect a more powerful processor at this price. $799 at Nothing Nothing's first "true flagship" phone has arrived, ready to take on the likes of the Pixel 9 and Galaxy S25. Despite the company's lofty chatter, Mat argued the Nothing Phone 3 is hampered by a lower-power chip and disappointing cameras. "While I want Nothing to continue experimenting with its phones, it should probably prioritize shoring up the camera performance first," he said. The redesigned Galaxy Watch 8 has a longer battery life and much more comfortable fit. The Gemini integration is actually helpful and the new health metrics and fitness guidance are useful. $350 at Amazon Samsung debuted a big update to its Galaxy Watch line when it unveiled the Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7. A US-Only TikTok? What We Know So Far About the Potential Replacement App
A new version of the TikTok mobile app for people in the US is reportedly being developed by the vertical video social media network's owner ByteDance. It will replace the current version of TikTok being used in the US ahead of a September deadline for the Chinese company to divest ownership, according to a report last month by The Information. The new app, codenamed "M2," could launch on Sept. 5. If you're in the US, you would then be required to switch from the existing app to the new one, the report said, citing anonymous sources. US President Donald Trump recently extended a deadline for the owner to sell its US-based TikTok assets by Sept. 17. In July, Trump said he found a buyer for the company, which he called a group of "very, very wealthy people." The administration has continued to extend deadlines for TikTok to remain operational since January when it was shut down for less than 24 hours. The company reportedly has 170 million users in the US. A representative for TikTok did not respond to a request for comment. According to The Information, the reason for the new app version is also due to an Apple App Store restriction that does not allow multiple versions of an app for different regions to appear in the same listing. What a US TikTok app would mean for you If the report is accurate, it would mean that at the very least, anybody who uses the TikTok mobile app would eventually be required to migrate to a new US-centric version. But there's likely to be a lengthy grace period, according to The Information's sources: the old app may not disappear completely until March 2026, giving you six months to make the transition. Still, it could be disruptive for those whose business or brand relies on the platform. "Anytime there is a migration or a major feature revamp on any network, it certainly creates work and worry," said Jennie Smythe, an author and founder and CEO of Girlilla Marketing, which has worked with clients including Willie Nelson, Terry Crews and Iliza Shlesinger. "There are concerns that audiences will also make the move and if the migration will be worth the effort," Smythe told CNET in an email. "The bigger concern besides the migration are the features and data that will be available to us in the creator economy as well as the audience restrictions (i.e. is our content/audience also restricted to US only?)." It's unclear if the new app would include any other major changes or improvements over the existing app or if it would restrict or filter viewing content from other regions in ways that differ from the current version.
