'I interviewed Kim Woodburn and saw a side to her that people rarely saw'

Daily Mirror19-06-2025
Kim Woodburn became known for her quick wit, sharp tongue and her strength when it came to standing up for herself. This made me both incredibly excited and nervous ahead of my interview with the telly legend last year. Her death earlier this week was something none of us could have anticipated.
Ahead of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! airing last year, I was offered an interview with Kim to discuss her time on the show as well as her views on last year's contestants, including Coleen Rooney, GK Barry and Loose Women anchor Jane Moore.
But I'd grown up seeing Kim on shows such as How Clean Is Your House, I'm A Celeb, and Celebrity Big Brother, so I knew she didn't take any prisoners.
Her appearance on Celebrity Big Brother is perhaps the most memorable part of the show's history, mainly her feud with Jamie O'Hara and Nicola McLean (whom she called Nicole).
During her stint in the house, Kim clashed with several of her co-stars, but despite being older than them, she had more fire and was prepared to stand her ground.
I knew that I would be getting several strong lines from Kim from the outset, and knew she wouldn't mince her words, which she didn't.
She was one of the few stars who wasn't afraid to say what was really on her mind, whether people liked it or not – and that is exactly why I liked her. I mean, my motto is "it's better to be slapped with the truth than kissed with a lie," and Kim had the same outlook.
But one thing I hadn't anticipated was just how warm and gentle Kim would be. Speaking to me from her home in Cheshire, where she lived with her beloved husband Peter, the telly star and expert cleaner showed me a side I wasn't prepared for after waking up late one morning.
She was warm, approachable and made light of my bed head and told me I'd end up on the dole queue if I woke up late again. But towards the end of our chat, I couldn't help but ask Kim about her rise to fame. How did a woman from Portsmouth suddenly become a household name in her sixties?
"I got into television when I was 61," she said. She went on to tell me: "Like everyone else, I went out to work, coming back, trying to juggle bills and leave one for two more days as we all do. Then suddenly I was discovered for television, and I didn't apply for the job.
"I was discovered and within a month, swept into fame and a load of money, and I've always been grateful. I got into it so late at 61, I'm 82 now. So for 21 years, I've bought a house and I can go out and buy things I want.
"If I want to treat myself and got a nice car, my husband's got a nice car – I'm ever so grateful. I'm ever so thankful, thank you so much. I was just lucky. You get it at that age and you don't forget, you don't forget." On Tuesday, I took a day off from social media and work for personal reasons and, when I saw the news of Kim's death, I was so sad.
She was somebody who brought so much joy to so many people, often entertaining fans with her Cameo videos delivering some of her most iconic phrases, including "You chicken livered sh*t" and "damned adulterer!" Finding the footage of my interview late last night made me laugh beyond belief at 10pm. Kim, thank you for the entertainment – I hope you're having a gin and tonic up there.

Kim and Romeo went public last November - but have split up after seven months together. His romance with Kim came 20 months after his split from Mia Reagan, his ex of five years. The pair's romance "fizzled out" shortly after dad David's star-studded 50th birthday party. It comes after reports that Kim has been made the "scapegoat" in the Brooklyn feud. Kim was said to be involved in the Beckham family feud in which eldest child Brooklyn and wife Nicola Peltz, 30, have become estranged. Brooklyn is thought to have previously dated Kim as a teenager and was said to be unhappy she was on the guestlist for David's birthday celebrations. However, the model and DJ said she was 'never been romantically involved' with Brooklyn. The model and DJ said she was being unfairly targeted by trolls and abuse since the famous family fell out. She continued: "I will not continue to receive harassment or be embarrassed on the basis of lies, to fit a certain narrative." Kim then clarified: "I have never been romantically involved in ANY capacity at ANY point with the person in question. "Nothing between us has occurred further than a school friendship at age 16. "I would like to remove myself from the ongoing conversation and set the record straight for the sake of everyone involved." Heartbroken Tulisa pulls out of rare performance as famous dad dies

N-Dubz star Tulisa Contostavlos has put her work commitments on hold following the sad news of her father Steve's death as she pulls out of a Pride event this weekend A grieving Tulisa Contostavlos has pulled out of performing at a Pride event following the death of her beloved dad Steve. The N-Dubz star shared the sad news with her fans earlier this week as she paid an emotional tribute. She shared a childhood picture of her cuddling up to the keyboard player, who went by the name of Plato, and wrote: "Love you pops, rest in peace. Forever my father's daughter." N-Dubz bandmate and cousin Dappy also shared a clip of himself with his uncle alongside a white dove emoji. ‌ Tulisa posted a broken heart emoji on the post, with Dappy responding to her: "I'm so sorry T." The singer was due to perform on Saturday at The Grand Clapham as part of the Pride celebrations. ‌ However, understandably she will now not be taking part in the event as she steps away from work commitments to grieve. The venue gave an update to fans as they said: "Pride update. "We are sorry to announce that due to a family bereavement, Tulisa will understandably no longer be joining us for our Pride After Party on Saturday." They added: "We are sending Tulisa & her family all of our love. We'll be announce a new special guest later today, keep an eye out!" Last year, I'm A Celebrity star Tulisa opened up about her 'unconventional relationship' with her dad, Steve. She said on Paul Brunson's podcast We Need To Talk: 'Me and my dad's relationship has not been a conventional one. I would say me and my dad now we're just more friends that kind of have an understanding of one another." Steve had his own successful music career as the keyboardist for Mungo Jerry. Mungo Jerry was largely successful in the 70s after landing number one hit In The Summertime, with Plato playing on the keyboard. ‌ Music runs in her family as Steve's brother Byron - who is the father of her cousin and fellow N-Dubz star Dappy - played bass guitar in the group. Tulisa explained on the Happy Place podcast: "My dad had a little studio in Dollis Hill and he used to bring me there sometimes when he was working. He put me on the mic at the age of five. I was singing Little Mermaid. ‌ "I just knew there was nothing else I felt passionate about." Steve once candidly discussed how he taught Tulisa to stand up for herself after getting relentlessly bullied at school over her mum's mental health. Her mum, Ann, suffered from schizophrenia, which saw her in and out of hospital, leaving her unable to look after herself, let alone her daughter. Children in her class began to tease Tulisa about her mother's condition. Steve told the Sunday Mirror in 2012: "My daughter was horribly bullied. It was awful. Children would scream, 'Your mum's a loony'. Tulisa was about five years old when it first started. She would come home crying all the time. "In the end I had to tell her, 'I can't go and sort this problem out for you. This is the kind of thing you are going to face in life and you have to stand up for yourself'." He explained: "Then one day when she was about seven, after I had trained her for about six months, she came back from school and said, 'Dad I knocked one of them out. You were right Dad, I did it'. It had to be done, the misery that child went through at school was unbelievable. Every time she went in she was terrified."

Andy Murray splurged on Ferrari after Kim Sears split – but it ended in disaster

Sir Andy Murray has revealed he bought a Ferrari - nicknamed Barry - during a brief 2008 split from his now-wife Kim Sears Andy Murray has opened up about a chaotic chapter from his past - one that involved a break-up, a Ferrari named Barry, and an immediate run-in with the law. During a recent live show, the tennis legend reflected on the brief time he and his now-wife Kim Sears split back in 2008. The couple, who started dating in 2005 and married in 2015, hit a rough patch early on. Murray's way of coping was by splurging on a flashy new sports car. ‌ 'I bought a Ferrari,' he admitted. 'I called it Barry the Ferrari. I thought it was cool, but it didn't last very long.' ‌ However, the thrill was short-lived. 'The first day I took it out to drive, it got pulled over by the police because the insurance hadn't cleared,' he said. 'I got rid of it over a couple of months, because it wasn't really me.' The spontaneous purchase wasn't the only headline-worthy moment involving Murray and Kim, who has stood by his side through the highs and lows of his career. From emotional Centre Court finals to press and tournaments around the world, Kim's support has been a constant. She's also earned a reputation for her sharp tongue and zero-filter reactions. Most famously, at the 2015 Australian Open, Kim was caught mouthing off in the stands - seemingly calling rival player Tomas Berdych a 'Czech flash f***.' Not one to shy away from a moment, she returned to Andy's next match wearing a jumper that read: 'Parental Advisory: Explicit Content.' ‌ And it seems not much has changed. Murray recently shared a brutally honest exchange with Kim while he was performing on stage. 'At one of the shows we did a few nights ago, I messaged her during the half-time interval, asking, 'Is everyone OK?'' he recalled. 'She replied, 'It has been a f*ing shambles. Lola's being a tt. Hope the show's going better than this.'' The couple, who now have four children together, haven't lost their sense of humour in family life. Kim even took a playful jab at Andy's retirement, chiming in with: 'He is playing so much f***ing golf.' From accidental police run-ins to vulgar language, Murray's life off the court seems just as lively as his time on it.
