Mbeumo to make Man Utd debut against Everton
United's overall summer outlay is a surprise given minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe said in March the club could have "gone bust by Christmas" without the huge cuts implemented to slash costs.Club sources cite a number of reasons - including Marcus Rashford's £325,000-a-week salary being fully covered during his loan move to Barcelona, various sell-on clauses that have been activated this summer and the payment schedules agreed with Wolves and Brentford around Cunha and Mbeumo's arrivals - as the reason why they can still spend.United sources had said on Friday their attempts to sign Sesko were continuing. However, subsequently, reports have emerged in the forward's native Slovenia stating the forward had chosen to join Newcastle. Neither club has commented officially on the latest reports.Yet, it is accepted even if Sesko did arrive in a move that would take the club's overall spend to about £200m, there will still be issues for Amorim to address, chief among them the goalkeeper. It now seems certain Andre Onana will remain as Amorim's first choice. The Cameroon international has been working hard on his fitness in the United States after hurting his hamstring on the second day of pre-season training. He is unlikely to be involved against Everton but there is hope Onana could play some part in the final friendly against a Fiorentina side including former United keeper David de Gea at Old Trafford on 9 August."We are always looking to improve the team and we have some characteristics we would like to have. But it depends on the market and depends on sales," said Amorim."You can see the goalkeepers. Tom [Heaton] is leaner, Altay [Bayindir] did really well and [Andre] Onana is going to be better like the other guys that are getting better this year."

Las Vegas Raiders safety Lonnie Johnson Jr breaks his leg after brutal collision with Maxx Crosby in practice
Raiders safety Lonnie Johnson Jr. broke his right leg during a mock game in Las Vegas practice on Saturday, according to multiple reports. Johnson, 29, was carted off the field after colliding brutally with defensive end Maxx Crosby while attempting to tackle running back Raheem Mostert. The six-year pro will reportedly undergo an MRI exam to determine if there is any additional damage. Depending on the severity of the injury, including if surgery is required, recovery could range anywhere from 10 weeks to six months. After his suffering the devastating injury, he took to X on Saturday and wrote: 'Imma soldier [on] chin up chest out - God got me'. Johnson signed as a free agent with Las Vegas this year after playing last season in Carolina, putting pen to paper on a one-year contract. He started once for the Panthers and played in 15 games, making seven tackles. #Raiders safety Lonnie Johnson Jr. left the team's mock game on a cart. Competing to be a starter, the six-season veteran who signed with Las Vegas this offseason had his ankle rolled up on by Maxx Crosby on this play. — Nick Walters (@nickwalt) August 2, 2025 The former Kentucky college star has also played for the New Orleans Saints, Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans, racking up 20 career starts with 199 tackles, 15 passes defended and four interceptions over the course of his career. He has been competing on the second team in practices for Las Vegas, but has been with the starters when they have gone to nickel defenses. The Raiders, who are co-owned by legendary quarterback Tom Brady, play their first preseason game on Thursday August 7 against the Seattle Seahawks. After more preseason outings against the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals, they begin the 2025 NFL season away to the New England Patriots. Home fixtures against the Los Angeles Chargers and Chicago Bears, as well as road trips to the Washington Commanders and Indianapolis Colts, make up their first five games of the year. Ahead of the new season, Brady was seen mingling with Raiders players - including star tight end Brock Bowers - in a shock appearance at training camp this week. It was his first public appearance at practice since NFL owners last year approved his bid to become a minority owner in the team. Brady and his partner Tom Wagner own 10 percent of the Raiders, with the seven-time Super Bowl winner holding a 5 percent stake in the franchise.

Man Utd and Newcastle on alert after club drop Benjamin Sesko interest
Manchester United and Newcastle's battle to sign Benjamin Sesko has taken a twist after a third club pulled out of the transfer race for the striker. Sesko has emerged as a top target for both Premier League teams, with RB Leipzig rejecting a £70million offer from the Magpies over the weekend. It is said Leipzig were happy with the overall sum of Newcastle's bid but not the payment structure, while United are reportedly 'ready to match' their rival's offer. But they are not the only clubs involved in the saga, with the Slovenian striker on the shortlist of Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal after they failed to sign Victor Osimhen. As per The Athletic, Al-Hilal have also looked at Newcastle's Alexander Isak – who wants to leave St. James' Park for Liverpool – but now they believe the Swede and Sesko are unattainable. As a result, they have now entered talks with Liverpool over a deal for Darwin Nunez, who has been tipped to leave Anfield all summer. It is said the Uruguayan is now their top target and have informed the Reds of their interest, though a formal bid is yet to be made. Liverpool signed Nunez in 2022 in a deal worth up to £85m but the centre-forward hasn't been the elite goalscorer they hoped for, returning 40 goals in 143 games. Arne Slot gave the 26-year-old just eight starts in the Premier League last season, with the summer additions of Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike casting further doubt on his Merseyside future. More Trending If Nunez does indeed move to Saudi Arabia, it could spark a chain reaction in the transfer market, with Liverpool more likely to make another bid for Isak after their opening £110m offer was immediately rejected. Eddie Howe's side are determined to keep their talisman, who scored 27 goals across all competitions last season and is considered one of the best strikers in the world. They value him at £150m but if they were to sell it may boost their chances of buying Sesko who recorded 21 goals last season and was previously pursued by Arsenal. It is said the 22-year-old is open to joining either Newcastle or Manchester United, with the former also eyeing up PSG's Goncalo Ramos as an alternative.
