Striker Alan Trouten eyes successful season as he recalls 'proud moment'

Trouten will play into his 40s, having enjoyed a prolific promotion season
Rutherglen ace Alan Trouten has signed a one-year extension at East Fife that will ensure he plays into his 40s.
Trouten is in pre-season to enter his fourth season at Bayview, and hopes it can be a successful one in the third tier.

The striker, who turns 40 in November, played a major part in their promotion-winning campaign in League Two last term by scoring 28 goals in 43 games.

And he said: 'The season ended well, with the play-off victory and promotion – that's what we set out to do at the start of the season.
'We're up to League One, I've signed a new contract, along with the majority of the boys. We've kept a good nucleus of the squad together and we just need to add more bodies so we can compete at a higher level.
'I never really set myself personal targets, goals-wise and stuff, I always just want to contribute, help the team – that's what I'm there to do, to score and set up goals.
'As a team, we need to take it game by game. I know when you look at the league it's going to be exciting. There's going to be four full-time teams in there, ourselves and Peterhead have just come up, but I think we can give a good account of ourselves and hopefully have another successful season.'
Trouten picked up the PFA Scotland League Two Player of the Year award, setting a record, and says it was a great moment.

He said: 'It was a proud moment for me and my family, especially seeing that the award is voted for by the players that you're up against over the course of the season – that always makes it that bit sweeter.
'It's always good to get that recognition that the players you're playing against appreciate your performances.
'I think that was the fourth time I had been nominated, so to finally win it meant a lot, and they told me on the night I was the oldest player ever to win a PFA award at any level, so that was a nice moment as well.'

Trouten says a change in mentality under Dick Campbell led to East Fife's success.
Trouten said: 'When the manager first came in, the first thing they said was that they would change the team's mentality, that we had to improve on that as a squad.
'I think there were games last season that we might not have won in previous years.
'The biggest thing they've brought is the mentality. The management team have won a lot of promotions and there are players in the team that have done it as well, so it has been a good mix.'

Kilmarnock defender Corrie Ndaba looks destined to complete Lecce switch

Kilmarnock defender Corrie Ndaba looks set to seal a move to Serie A side Lecce. The 25-year-old joined Killie on a three-year deal last summer after a spell on loan from Ipswich in the 2023-24 campaign and made 38 appearances last term. Amid speculation that he was heading for Italy, Ndaba was not involved as the Ayrshire side sealed their place in the second round of the Premier Sports Cup with a 4-0 home win over East Fife. And on Saturday evening, Lecce posted on X a picture of the Irish defender holding a club scarf, accompanied by a short statement indicating that he was poised to sign for them. 'The footballer Corrie Ndaba arrived in Bressanone in the late afternoon, where he began undergoing medical examinations that will be completed on Monday,' it read. As Ndaba heads for the exit, Killie are welcoming the emergence of a new talent, Ben Brannan. The 18-year-old took his tally for the season to three when he scored a double from left-wing-back in the win over East Fife, adding to earlier strikes from summer signings Marcus Dackers and Djenairo Daniels. 'We speak about him kind of coming flat off that left-hand side onto his stronger right foot,' manager Stuart Kettlewell said in a club interview. 'He's been more accustomed, quite clearly, to playing on the right-hand side. 'But when you look at a young academy player and somebody that's coming in for his first games for this football club, I don't know that you can ask too much more. 'We think he can be a really promising player and a really promising talent for the football club. And what it does is it just continues to kind of pave the way that there's opportunities here for a lot of other young players.' Brannan went off injured in the closing stages but Kettlewell said: 'We think it's just a bit of spasm in his thigh. 'It was obviously uncomfortable at the time, but he was moving about far better when we went back into the dressing room, so fingers crossed he's fit and available for next week and moving into the first league game.' Praise for Brannan & Watson as academy players shine

We asked for your views on Killie's win over East Fife and topping their League Cup is what some of you said:Andy: Big improvement from Tuesday night in Kelty. Think the team is now coming together. Great seeing our two new strikers scoring and some excellent football on displayGerry: Even allowing for the opposition today, the standard of football on show from Killie today was refreshing and better than last season's hoof ball. The performance from two of our homegrown players, David Watson and Ben Brannan, was a joy to A comfortable win. For once, we managed to score early, and that seemed to settle the team while taking the heart out of the visitors. Excellent performances from Watson, Jamie Brandon and especially Brannan. He's going to be a player. Liam Polworth was excellent in the first half but not so good in the second when some slack passes allowed East Fife in on our goal. The main thing is that we're through to the second Good to see us being clinical in front of goal after our struggles against Kelty. Hopefully, Brannan's injury isn't too serious. The boy has serious ability and can be a huge player for us this season. Really impressed by Brandon as well, but we need more squad depth in central defence and on the left side. I was underwhelmed by Stuart Kettlewell's appointment, but I've seen enough to suggest we'll be ok.
