Hall of Fame second baseman Ryne Sandberg has died after battling cancer
Sandberg was surrounded by his family when he died at his home on Monday, according to the team.
Sandberg announced in January 2024 that he had been diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer. He had chemotherapy and radiation treatments, and then said in August 2024 that he was cancer-free.
But he posted on Instagram on Dec. 10 that his cancer had returned and spread to other organs. He announced this month that he was still fighting, while 'looking forward to making the most of every day with my loving family and friends.'

Lyon signs midfielder Tyler Morton from Liverpool in $17M deal
LYON, France (AP) — Liverpool sent homegrown midfielder Tyler Morton to French club Lyon for a transfer fee of up to 15 million euros ($17 million) on Tuesday. The 22-year-old Morton signed a five-year contract with Lyon, which confirmed it paid a fee of 10 million euros with potential bonuses of 5 million euros. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia Phillies reliever José Alvarado has rejoined the team following an 80-game suspension for violating baseball's performance-enhancing drugs policy. Alvarado was back in Philadelphia before Tuesday night's home game against Baltimore and is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment soon. The Venezuelan left-hander is eligible to return to the big leagues on Aug. 19, but can't pitch in the postseason if the Phillies qualify due to Major League Baseball rules on PED bans.

Titans give veteran safety Quandre Diggs chance to play with his cousin Cam Ward
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Titans have swapped out a couple of players for a pair of safeties, giving three-time Pro Bowl safety Quandre Diggs a chance to play with his cousin, rookie quarterback Cam Ward. The Titans announced the moves Tuesday, waiving outside linebacker Titus Leo and safety Mark Perry. They also signed Joshuah Bledsoe. Diggs signed with Tennessee last season and started eight games before finishing on injured reserve with an injured left foot. The veteran also was teammates in Seattle with new Tennessee receiver Tyler Lockett. The veteran safety has started 120 of 145 games in his career with Detroit, Seattle and Tennessee.
