flydubai Breaks Ground on New Aircraft Maintenance Centre in Dubai South

Hi Dubai2 days ago
flydubai has begun construction on its first dedicated Aircraft Maintenance Centre at Dubai South, marking a major milestone in the airline's infrastructure growth as it scales up operations to support its expanding fleet.
The state-of-the-art facility, spanning 32,600 square metres, is scheduled for completion by the last quarter of 2026. It will include a fully equipped aircraft hangar, support workshops, and office buildings, offering greater in-house maintenance control and faster turnaround times.
A groundbreaking ceremony took place in the presence of Khalifa Al Zaffin, Executive Chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation and Dubai South, and Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, along with officials from the Mohammed bin Rashid Aerospace Hub (MBRAH).
Al Zaffin highlighted Dubai's vision for aviation growth, stating the project strengthens the city's status as a global aviation hub. Al Ghaith added that the centre will play a key role in ensuring operational efficiency and supporting flydubai's continued fleet expansion.
The project follows an agreement signed at the 2023 Dubai Airshow between flydubai and MBRAH. Strategically located near Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), the facility is expected to benefit from Dubai South's integrated aviation and logistics ecosystem.
Once operational, the centre will support over 600 skilled engineers across technical departments responsible for maintaining the safety and airworthiness of flydubai's aircraft.

UAE-Iran flights resume after Tehran opens airspace

Flights between Dubai and three cities in Iran via flydubai have returned to full operations since Friday, July 4, following the lifting of airspace restrictions in the region. A flydubai spokesperson confirmed to Khaleej Times 'flights to Bandar Abbas, Mashhad and Tehran in Iran have resumed.' 'We continue to monitor the situation closely and amend our schedule as required, adding more capacity or revisions where necessary,' added the spokesperson for the Dubai-based carrier, noting: 'Customers are advised to ensure their contact details are up to date and to check the status of their flights before they travel.' Iran announced on Thursday that it has reopened its airspace, including over Tehran, after closing it on June 13 due to the conflict with Israel, according to Iranian state media IRNA. "Tehran's Mehrabad and Imam Khomeini international airports, as well as those in the north, east, west and south of the country, have been reopened and are ready to operate flights," IRNA announced. Flights from Sharjah Sharjah-based Air Arabia will resume previously suspended flights to Tehran, Shiraz, and Lar starting July 6. 'Customers are advised to book via the website or by calling our contact center. (We) remain fully committed to the safety of our customers and crew, and we appreciate your patience and understanding during this period,' Air Arabia posted on its website. Still suspended Meanwhile, Emirates has yet to revise its earlier announcement of flight cancellations to/from Tehran until July 9. UAE airlines resume flights to Iran as airspace reopens

Airlines in the UAE are resuming flights to Iran after the country announced the reopening of its airspace on Thursday. Airspace over Iran, Iraq and Jordan were closed after Israel launched a wave of strikes across Iran on June 13. 'Domestic and international flights will be operated from all airports in the country, except for Isfahan and Tabriz airports, during the day from 5am to 6pm,' state news agency IRNA reported, quoting the Civil Aviation Organisation of Iran. Isfahan and Tabriz airports will reopen after infrastructure work is complete, the agency added. Flydubai said on Friday it has returned to full operations across its network following the lifting of airspace restrictions in the region. 'Effective from July 4, flights to Bandar Abbas, Mashhad and Tehran in Iran have resumed,' a spokesperson told The National. 'We continue to monitor the situation closely and amend our schedule as required, adding more capacity or revisions where necessary. 'Customers are advised to ensure their contact details are up to date by visiting the 'manage your booking' section on and to check the status of their flights before travel.' Emirates, which had cancelled all flights to Tehran until July 9, is set to resume operations on July 10. On Friday afternoon, Air Arabia 's website showed flights from Sharjah to Tehran and Shiraj in Iran were scheduled from Sunday onwards. The UAE airline flies to a number Iranian destinations, including Mashhad in the country's north-east and Lar in the south. 'As regional airspace continues to open, Air Arabia is gradually resuming operations on previously suspended flights' the airline posted last week. 'Customers are advised to visit to check the latest updates and their flight status.' The 12-day war between Israel and Iran in June, and the US bombing of three Iranian nuclear sites, led to closures of multiple airspaces in the region, resulting in widespread cancellations and rerouting of flights. Following a ceasefire in late June, several airlines have since announced they are returning to normal operating schedules.
