Centre lauds Chhattisgarh for work under District Mineral Foundation

During a day-long National DMF Workshop held on Wednesday in New Delhi, Union Minister of Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy presented a certificate of appreciation to the Chhattisgarh chief minister's secretary and mineral resources department secretary P Dayanand, it said.
The Ministry of Mines maintains a comprehensive database of the DMF-related information of all states through the Prime Minister's Mineral Area Welfare Scheme on the National DMF Portal, it said.
Chhattisgarh was honoured with a certificate of appreciation for uploading over 90 per cent of its DMF audit reports and data on both the state and national DMF portals.
The efforts of Chhattisgarh were showcased as a model for other states, with recommendations to adopt similar practices in data uploading, transparency and ground-level implementation, the release said.
The workshop was organised with the aim of enhancing the effectiveness of the Prime Minister's Mineral Area Welfare Scheme and DMF, and to promote sustainable and inclusive development in mining areas. The event was attended by secretaries, directors and collectors from mining-affected districts across various states, it said.
With a transparent and public welfare-oriented approach, the Chhattisgarh government ensures that planning and monitoring of DMF projects are tailored to the local needs of each district. This policy focuses not only on physical development but also on social empowerment, the release said.

New Delhi [India], July 12 (ANI): India's aviation industry is projected to record a net loss in the range of ₹ 20-30 billion in the financial year 2025-26 (FY26), broadly in line with the estimated losses for FY2024-25 (FY25), according to the credit rating firm ICRA. The firm said in a report that these losses are expected to continue compared to a net profit of around ₹ 16 billion in FY2024 due to the anticipated pressure on yields as airlines strive to maintain adequate passenger load factors (PLF) amid continued aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices. The report stated that while demand for air travel remains robust, airlines are unlikely to raise ticket prices significantly due to competitive pressures and price sensitivity in the domestic market. Adding to the financial strain, interest costs are likely to rise in FY26 due to growing lease liabilities, as several airlines have scheduled aircraft deliveries. The industry had posted staggering net losses of ₹ 235 billion in FY22 and ₹ 174 billion in FY23, largely driven by COVID-19-related disruptions and fuel cost volatility. For May 2025, international passenger traffic for Indian carriers was 29.7 lakh, a YoY growth of 7.3 per cent. However, it remained lower by 7.9 per cent on a sequential basis owing to geopolitical headwinds. For 2M FY2026, international passenger traffic for Indian carriers stood at 59.8 lakh, a YoY growth of 12.1 per cent. West Bengal Gears Up For Rare Earth Mining In Purulia District
Kolkata: West Bengal is set to join India's rare earth mining map with the Geological Survey of India (GSI) conducting advanced exploration in Purulia district, a senior official said on Friday. Although the rare earth deposit in Purulia is relatively small, the development is significant as India looks to reduce dependence on imports of critical minerals essential for electric vehicles (EVs), electronics, and renewable energy technologies. "G2-level exploration is underway in two blocks - one in Karbi Anglong district of Assam and the other in Purulia, West Bengal," GSI Director General Asit Saha said on the sidelines of the Assocham-organised 3rd edition of Minerals and Mining conclave. He added that these blocks are expected to be ready for auction within a year. The G2 stage represents an advanced level of exploration, providing a fairly high degree of confidence in the resource estimation. Upon completion, the findings will be submitted to the respective state mines departments and the Union Ministry of Mines for further action, Saha said. While GSI has not identified specific rare earth elements in these locations yet, Saha said the deposits typically consist of a "basket of 14-17 rare earth minerals," making the extraction and processing technically challenging. He noted that India has discovered promising vanadium deposits - another critical mineral - in the lower Himalayan belt. "We have very good vanadium resources in the Himalayan region, which are essential for energy storage and alloy production," Saha said. According to him, nearly 50 per cent of ongoing early-stage exploration projects in the country are focused on rare earth elements, reflecting their growing strategic importance. However, operationalisation of mines faces challenges, including land acquisition issues, environmental clearances, and lack of private sector interest. Separately, Union Heavy Industries Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Friday announced that the central government will soon launch a Rs 1,345 crore scheme to boost manufacture of rare earth magnets domestically. These magnets are critical components in electric motors used in EVs, wind turbines, and defence applications. India is also actively pursuing lithium exploration, with 20 projects spread across four to five states, officials said.

Particularly in times when language is no longer a barrier to education, employment, or business, blind opposition to Hindi could hinder the progress of future generations.' He questioned, 'When we can speak English comfortably, why do we hesitate and fear speaking Hindi?' Taking another dig at the opposition to Hindi raised in certain quarters of South India, he noted that 31 percent of South Indian movies are being dubbed into Hindi, which generates significant revenue. 'People want Hindi for business and to gain popularity on social media, but politics arises when it comes to learning the language.' He recalled that the former President of India, Abdul Kalam, was a Tamil but had a great appreciation for Hindi. He emphasized that language should unite people rather than create divisions. 'The world is working to create divisions, while we are trying to find a language that brings everyone together.' Union Minister G Kishan Reddy said that under the leadership of PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, a golden period is going on for Indian languages. In the last decade, the National Department has done various works to increase the activity of other Indian languages including Hindi.
