RCMP investigate assault of woman in Chestermere on Canada Day

Two teens have been charged after a woman was assaulted at John Peake Memorial Park in Chestermere, Alta., on Canada Day.
According to Chestermere RCMP, they received reports at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday that a woman was being swarmed by a group of 10-15 teens aged 13-15 years old.
The woman was taken to hospital with what was described as 'moderate' injuries and was released Thursday.

Investigators identified and arrested two teens aged 13 and 14. One of the teens was charged with a single charge of assault, while the second was charged with assault and uttering threats.

The investigation into the assault is ongoing as RCMP continue to go over CCTV footage obtained from cameras located at the park to identify other members of the group involved in the attack.
RCMP believe more people may have been assaulted by the teens. They ask anyone with information to contact the Chestermere RCMP at 403-204-8900 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Crews scour Thompson River after international student swept away in Kamloops

Police and search-and-rescue crews are scouring the Thompson River for a man who was swept away on Sunday. It happened shortly after 5 p.m., as the man was playing volleyball with a group on the north shore, near the Overlander Bridge. RCMP say the man went into the river to retrieve an errant ball, where he became caught in the undercurrent. Two other men also went in the water to try and help and were also caught in the current. Teen dead after crash between dirt bike, deer: RCMP

A fatal crash between a dirt bike and a deer has left a teenage boy dead in the RM of Dauphin. The RCMP was first called to the incident, which took place on Road 114W, around 9:50 p.m. on Saturday. When Mounties arrived at the scene, they found a dirt bike lying on the road and a 15-year-old boy in medical distress. The teen was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries. Officers investigated and determined the teen was riding the dirt bike down the road when the collision took place. Police said the teen was not wearing a helmet and was thrown from his bike during the crash. RCMP continues to investigate.
