KLK posts 32% rise in 2Q profit; declares 20 sen dividend

KUALA Lumpur Kepong Bhd (KLK) reported a 31.8% year-on-year increase in net profit to RM154.27 million for the second quarter ended March 31, 2025 (2Q25), supported by stronger plantation performance.
Earnings per share rose to 14.0 sen from 10.8 sen, while revenue climbed 16.2% to RM6.34 billion.
The group declared a 20 sen interim dividend, payable on July 29.
Plantation profit surged to RM454.3 million, thanks to higher average selling prices of crude palm oil and palm kernel.
However, the manufacturing segment posted a loss of RM38.3 million, dragged by the non-oleochemical division, refinery, and kernel crushing operations.
The property segment's profit also halved to RM3.5 million.
For the first half of FY2025, net profit rose 8.9% to RM374.73 million on RM12.28 billion revenue.
KLK executive chairman Tan Sri Lee Oi Hian said the group expects production to pick up in the second half but remains cautious due to CPO price volatility and demand uncertainties.
KLK shares ended 4 sen lower at RM19.62, valuing the group at RM21.9 billion. — TMR

AmFIRST REIT posts improved Q1 results

PETALING JAYA: AmREIT Managers Sdn Bhd, the manager of AmFIRST Real Estate Investment Trust, reported improved financial performance for the first quarter of the current financial year, underpinned by higher rental income from improved portfolio occupancy and higher carpark income. Also, a one-off compensation received for waiver of reinstatement liability has also contributed to the improved gross revenue. Key financial highlights for Q1'26 are gross revenue of RM27 million, up 7.6% quarter-on-quarter; net property income of RM16.2 million, an increase of 17.3% from the preceding quarter and realised earnings per unit of 0.75 sen per unit, up 47% quarter-on -quarter. In a statement yesterday, AmREIT said its portfolio occupancy continued to strengthen in the current quarter, with notable improvements at Menara AmBank and Wisma AmFIRST. It added that Prima 9 and Jaya 99 also saw gains, driven by multiple new tenancies secured during the period. These new leases have lifted overall committed portfolio occupancy by 4.1%, from 84.7% as at March 31, 2025, to 88.8% as at June 30, 2025 — supporting sustained rental income growth in the years ahead. Property expenses were slightly higher mainly due to higher repair and maintenance costs, as well as increase in assessment charges. However, this increase was partially mitigated by lower electricity expenses. Finance costs saw a marginal decline of 0.5% compared to the corresponding period of last financial year, supported by lower average cost of borrowings. The recent 25 basis points cut in the overnight policy rate by Bank Negara Malaysia is expected to further reduce interest expenses. With 67% of the trust's borrowings are subject to floating rates, it is estimating the interest saving of approximately RM1.3 million per annum from every 25 basis points reduction in the cost of debt. This favourable rate environment expects to enhance the trust's earning resilience. Overall, the realised net income from operations rose significantly by 45.4% to RM5.1 million, compared to RM3.5 million in the same quarter of the previous financial year. Looking ahead, the manager aims to further enhance the performance of the trust's asset portfolio by driving revenue growth and optimising operational costs, to increase the asset portfolio's yield for higher income distribution to the unitholders. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the manager remains cautiously optimistic that the trust will deliver improved performance for the remainder of the financial year, supported by higher occupancy rates and ongoing operational efficiencies.

Mat Sabu: Malaysia produced over half a million tonnes of coconuts in 2024

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia produced 673,553 metric tons of coconuts in 2024 from a total of 86,356 ha of cultivated land nationwide. Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said only a small quantity of coconuts was imported, with 96.8 per cent of total production distributed to local markets. "Of the total production, 652,253 metric tons were allocated for the domestic market, while 21,300 metric tons were exported," he said in a written parliamentary reply last night. Responding to Wan Razali Wan Nor (PN–Kuantan), Mohamad said the Agriculture Department has provided incentives to farmers under the Coconut Industry Development Project. The initiative includes replanting old or unproductive trees, restoring productivity, and integrating coconut cultivation with crops, livestock, and aquaculture to generate short-term income. The incentives provided include agricultural inputs such as seedlings, fertilisers, pesticides, and herbicides, as well as basic farm infrastructure support, including land preparation, drainage systems, and small-scale farm equipment. The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama), through its subsidiary Fama Corporation Sdn Bhd (Famaco), sourced 1,506 metric tons of peeled old coconuts worth RM3.5 million from Sabah and Indonesia between January and July 14, 2025. The coconuts were distributed via three operation centres to 509 Fama marketing outlets and 202 coconut milk operators across the country to ensure a stable supply for consumers.

Eco-Shop's 4Q profit slips 10% on higher costs, but FY2025 earnings rise 17%

Eco-Shop Marketing Bhd posted a 10.1% year-on-year decline in adjusted net profit for the fourth quarter ended May 31, 2025 (4Q25), as higher expenses from store expansion, wage hikes and IPO-related costs offset revenue gains. Net profit — excluding one-off listing expenses — fell to RM57 million from RM63.4 million a year earlier, the group said in a filing. This came as selling, distribution and administrative expenses surged 65.1% to RM155.4 million, driven by network growth, the full-quarter impact of the Feb 1 minimum wage revision, and listing-related fees of RM7.6 million. Quarterly revenue, however, rose 7.5% year-on-year to RM689 million, supported by the net addition of 22 new stores and a pricing revision introduced in mid-April, which raised product prices to RM2.60 in Peninsular Malaysia and RM2.80 in East Malaysia. The pricing adjustment helped lift Eco-Shop's gross profit margin to 31.9%, up from 27.2% in 4QFY2024, aided further by a favourable product mix and currency gains in procurement. The company declared a 1 sen interim single-tier dividend, amounting to RM57.5 million, payable on Aug 26. For the full financial year ended May 31, 2025 (FY25), Eco-Shop reported a 17% increase in adjusted net profit to RM213.7 million, while revenue rose 16% to RM2.8 billion. The group opened 74 new outlets during the year, bringing its total store count to 371. The company noted a marginal 0.4% decline in same-store sales growth (SSSG) for FY2025, attributed to initial consumer pushback following the April price increase. Nonetheless, its CEO Jessica Ng said the group remains upbeat about its long-term prospects. 'Our confidence is underpinned by the continued expansion of our store network and rising consumer demand for value-driven retail. 'Despite the setback in SSSG, we anticipate margins and performance to remain healthy or continue improving,' she said. — TMR
