Medevedev, 29, has reached the semi-finals at SW19 during the last two years, but crashed out in four sets to inspired Frenchman Bonzi.

The world No64 went into today's No2 Court clash with Medvedev having failed to win a main draw match on grass this year.
But he defied the odds to beat the Russian 7-6 3-6 7-6 6-3.
Medvedev was in a foul mood at times during the match, regularly grumbling towards his team and even throwing his racquet.
The former US Open champion couldn't believe how well his opponent was playing, even muttering before Bonzi's first set point during the opening stanza: "Why not play like this every day, win millions, be rich?"

After shrugging his shoulders, he added: "No, he decides to do it once a year."
Responding to a clip of Medvedev's comment, posted by tennis author Bastien Fachan, one fan called it: "Very disrespectful."
Although a second added: "Looooooool he's hilarious."
Medvedev is fluent in French, having worked with Cannes-born coach Gilles Cervara for several years, and made the comment in Bonzi's native tongue.

Speaking after the match, Medvedev doubled down, saying: "I'm surprised by his level. I know that he can play well.
"I mean, it's just after the match, so I need to see the video and be sure about what I say. I would be surprised if you find a match of him playing like this any other match this year. I'm surprised he did today.

"But it can happen. That's when sensations happen."
Medvedev then pointed to the fact he would have played Bonzi in Halle a fortnight ago, had the Frenchman beaten his compatriot Quentin Halys in round one.
The 6ft 6in ace, added: "Every shot that I played today, even good shots, he had an answer.
"I was supposed to play him or Halys in Halle. I watched the match. He couldn't play two balls in a row in the court. I was surprised. Will be tough against Quentin. I played good, I won.
"Today, he barely missed. A little bit on the forehand. Backhand, I remember maybe three unforced errors.
"I wish him to play like this. I saw the draw for myself, now not anymore.
"If he plays like he played today, he's definitely in the fourth round. Then it's (Taylor) Fritz, and then it's tougher. I would not be surprised if he doesn't play like this."
Bonzi, who has earned more than £2.5million during his career, will face Australia's Jordan Thompson in round two; and could then meet either Luciano Darderi, Roman Safiullin or British wildcard Arthur Fery.

Rangers land third signing of the summer as Russell Martin reunites with Premier League star

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) RANGERS boss Russell Martin has moved to bolster his squad with the signing of Joe Rothwell. The Gers have confirmed Rothwell's arrival on a three-year contract and he'll wear the number six shirt. Rothwell has made over 200 appearances in the English Championship and played in England's top flight with the Cherries. Martin knows the 30-year-old well after bringing him to St Mary's whilst he was Southampton boss in January 2024. Rothwell played the rest of that season and was pivotal in their promotion charge towards the Premier League. And he has huge admiration for Martin, he told a More than a Match podcast: 'He'd handwritten letters and posted them under the players door before the play-off final. "I think just to thank everyone and show what they mean to him and the team. "I'd never heard a manager do that before. I think that just typified the type of guy he is. "He was all about the players, you could see last season they loved playing for him. "I think he brought the whole club together at Southampton. "Every member of staff spoke so highly of him." Ex-Rangers supremo David Murray on the club's new owners and why Gio shouldn't have been sacked The combative midfielder, who generally plays in the number eight position, returned to the Championship last season. He played a key role in Leeds' promotion success, with the Elland Road side going up as league winners. Rothwell made 36 appearances for Daniel Farke' side. Rothwell, who is capped at various ages for England but not the full team, could qualify to play for Scotland through his gran. Rangers are just weeks away from their massive Champions League qualifier against Panathinaikos so strengthening the squad before the clash at Ibrox on July 22 is vital. Where to watch Wimbledon in London this summer

All eyes are on SW19 as Wimbledon prepares to get under way for another summer. The world's oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament has kicked off in the leafy southwest London postcode, bringing with it more Pimm's, socialites, and strawberries and cream than you can shake a stick at. If you didn't manage to snag a courtside ticket never fear, because London is brimming with big screens in spots where you can soak up the atmosphere. From open-air bars to BYOB screenings, here's where to catch all the grass-court action. Gallons of strawberries and endless flutes of fizz are being prepped at Duke of York Square in Chelsea, which is hosting one of the city's biggest free outdoor screenings of the men's semi-finals, women's final and men's final. Tennis enthusiasts can either throw down a picnic blanket on the manicured green opposite the Saatchi Gallery or rent a VIP deckchair for the day. On Saturday, July 12, a fine-foods market will be selling all kinds of delicious pre-game nibbles, and there will also be mini tennis coaching sessions for children who want to perfect their serve. • Your guide to life in London: what's new in culture, food and property If you're craving the buzz of a crowd, you'd be hard pushed to find an area of London more thronged with weekend visitors than Covent Garden Piazza. During Wimbledon the shopping district will be swapping street performers and buskers for grand-slam action broadcast from its own open-air screen, as well as deck chairs and even a Aperol bar. Grab yourself a glass of the Italian aperitivo and pray the rain holds off. The big screen on Regent's Canal is easily one of London's most idyllic free cinemas. If lounging on these iconic grassy steps is an experience you've yet to tick off your summer bucket list, Wimbledon is the perfect excuse to slather on the factor 50 and settle down with a pint or two. The Everyman-sponsored screen will show games every day until the two-week tournament wraps up on July 13. Bluebird Chelsea will serve grand slam parfaits and courtside spritzes Don't fancy fighting tooth and nail to secure a spot at a free screening? The King's Road institution Bluebird will be hosting a more intimate airing of the men's final on July 13. Tickets cost £90 to manage numbers, but that can be put against your bar tab on the day. Alongside the match, the glitzy brunch spot will be serving a limited-edition menu of grand slam parfaits and courtside spritzes. And it wouldn't be Wimbledon without the obligatory dessert of strawberries and cream. East Londoners don't have to shlep across town on the torturously hot Central Line to catch the action this summer, thankfully, because the outdoor venue Hackney Bridge is showing all the live tennis on its huge glare-free screen. The gigantic canal-side beer garden in Hackney Wick has tons of picnic tables, plus a gourmet food market with street favourites, including Puglian pizzas, Mex Club tacos and tasty Sri Lankan curries. Come for the tennis, stay for the sunset. • Wimbledon 2025 queue tips and secrets: how to get tickets Boxpark became known as one of the best places to watch live sport after scenes of pint-hurling fans celebrating England goals went viral during last summer's Euros. The tennis might be a touch less raucous, but the atmosphere at the Wembley outpost will be buzzing nonetheless, with much of the tournament shown on the big screen. Expect roaring surround sound, beer-hall style tables, and street food favourites served all day — from jerk chicken at Twerk & Jerk to gravy-dipped burgers at Nanny Bill's and bao buns from Inamo Sukoshi.
