Justice Rajesh Bindal flags use of AI search models, leading to 'fake judgements'

India Today4 days ago
"In India and in the USA, the use of AI search models by young lawyers has led to 'fake judgments,' being placed before courts," said Justice Rajesh Bindal on Monday.Speaking at an event organised by the All India Senior Lawyers Association, Justice Rajesh Bindal, a sitting Judge of the Supreme Court (SC) of India, said that Senior lawyers have a "responsibility to mentor" young Lawyers.advertisementCautioning young lawyers against over reliance on technology, Justice Bindal gave examples of incorrect information being cited by AI (Artificial Intelligence) search models.
"Sometimes lawyers search on AI using one or two keywords and they cite judgments... it may be incorrect, it may have been the minority opinion..but they don't know that..there have been instances of the AI created it's own fake judgments and opinions which get presented before Court," said Justice Bindal."This is the danger mark of AI that it generates fake judgments and information. Senior lawyers need to groom the Young Bar about these dangers," said the SC judge."It was said we judges do a lot of work, but the core behind it is the research done by the young lawyers and the arguments made by the Senior counsels," said Bindal.Justice Bindal was speaking at the felicitation ceremony organised by the All India Senior Advocates Association for the four new Judges elevated to the Supreme Court in the last month- Justice Joymalya Bagchi, Justice Nilay V Anjaria, Justice Vijay Boshnoi and Justice Atul S Chandurkar. Justices Bindal and PB Varale were the "senior" members of the Bench attending the event.Senior Advocate and MP P Wilson, Senior Advocate Adish Aggarwala and Senior advocate Pitambari Acharya shared the dais with the judges.Speaking at the event, Senior Advocate and Parliamentarian P Wilson told the gathering that he had introduced a Private Members Bill to increase the retirement age of Judges before the Parliament.- EndsTune InMust Watch

BJP announces protest against govt in Mandi on Aug 6

Shimla: Himachal BJP president Dr Rajeev Bindal on Friday announced that the saffron party would stage a massive protest on August 6 at Mandi against the state govt's "repressive policies" and for registering "false cases" against its political opponents. He claimed that the Congress dispensation made it a routine to register cases and file chargesheets against anyone raising their voice against the govt. An FIR was registered against the BJP leaders in Sirmaur, besides filing cases against 72 disaster-hit people who lost their land and houses in the June 30 monsoon disaster in Thunag of Mandi district for the alleged disrespect to the national flag, said Bindal. The BJP leader also claimed that the state govt spent Rs 150 crore between 2022 and 2025 for the monsoon disaster. However, he added that the central govt released Rs 7,513 crore to the state besides providing MGNREGA funds. Bindal also slammed the state govt for the resumption of lottery sales. He said the BJP govt banned the sale of lottery tickets in 1999, but it was in 2004 that the Congress govt started it again. Though the sale of lottery was banned again in 2007, the Congress govt allowed lottery sales in a cabinet meeting on Thursday, he added. MSID:: 123046517 413 |

The programme, facilitated by Bharat Rural Livelihoods Foundation (BRLF), brings together 25 selected participants from Jharkhand, Bihar and Odisha. It is part of the Adi Karmayogi – Responsive Governance Programme, a pioneering initiative by the ministry of tribal affairs aimed at building the capacity of tribal frontline workers and govt functionaries across various administrative levels. Key objectives of the programme include enhancing effective implementation of welfare schemes, promoting convergence across departments such as health, education, women & child development, rural development, Jal Shakti and forests, encouraging participatory learning and community engagement, and establishing transparent and accountable governance mechanisms. Tamil Nadu govt. urges Madras HC to exempt ‘Ungaludan Stalin' and ‘Nalam Kaakum Stalin' schemes from prohibitory order

The Tamil Nadu government has approached the Madras High Court urging it to clarify that its interim order prohibiting the use of the name of any living personality in the nomenclature of government schemes would not be applicable to 'Ungaludan Stalin' and 'Nalam Kaakum Stalin' schemes. Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and Justice Sunder Mohan on Thursday (August 3, 2025) accepted a request made by Advocate General P.S. Raman for an early hearing of the modification petition since the Nalam Kaakum Stalin scheme was all set to be launched across the State on Saturday (August 2, 2025). The judges said, the petition, if filed by Friday, would be taken up for hearing on Monday (August 4, 2025). Within a couple of hours, a modification plea was filed by the State government in the High Court Registry along with a detailed affidavit sworn by Public department secretary Reeta Harish Thakkar. The affidavit said the public outreach programme titled 'Ungaludan Stalin' had been in operation for quite sometime now and even the public interest litigation petitioner Shanmugam, in whose case the interim order was passed, had not sought any ex-parte interim order against that scheme. Similarly, a Government Order for the Nalam Kaakum Stalin scheme, aimed at taking healthcare to the doorsteps of the beneficiaries, was issued on June 3, 2025 itself, the Public Secretary said, and contended that only the launch was scheduled to be held on August 2, 2025 by conducting health camps in all districts. Further, stating that the pamphlets, brochures, application forms and other related documents for the scheme had already been printed, Ms. Thakkar said, enormous efforts taken to launch the scheme on Saturday would go waste if the prohibitory interim order was made applicable to it. 'The scheme has been introduced in the name honourable Chief Minister who is a constitutional authority and it cannot be construed to have been introduced in the name of a political personality. Usage of photos of former Chief Ministers is also not expressly prohibited by the Supreme Court,' her affidavit read. Stating that the government was prepared to contest the main PIL petition by filing a detailed counter affidavit, the secretary said: 'The present petition is being filed for the limited purpose of seeking clarification so that the order may not be applicable to the Nalam Kaakum Stalin scheme that is being launched tomorrow.'
