Interim panel assures timely BFI elections by World Boxing's August 31 deadline, sights no delay in process
The world body, after reviewing the roadmap and deliberations held with Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President during discussions in Lausanne, has recently extended the tenure of the Interim Committee. This decision came with a formal note of appreciation, acknowledging the committee's effective functioning and its significant strides in restoring transparency and stability within India's boxing administration.
The panel has also been credited with playing a key role in reviving India's boxing performance on the global stage. At no point was the objective of ensuring a smooth and timely transition overlooked by the Interim Committee including the conduct of the elections, as per a Boxing Federation of India (BFI) press release.
'World Boxing has clearly mandated that the BFI elections be held before August 31, and as the Interim Committee, we are fully committed to delivering free and fair polls within that timeline. At the same time, it is important to reaffirm that the autonomy of the National Federation is governed by the framework laid down by the World Body. While we respect the intent behind the IOA's formation of a three-member fact-finding committee, the process under way is already transparent, accountable, and well-documented,', said Col. Arun Malik (Retd.), Executive Director, BFI and Member of the Interim Committee.
'All key action points and developments have been formally communicated to both the IOA and the Ministry, ensuring complete institutional clarity. With all information already in the public domain, there is little left to be uncovered. Our focus remains firmly on ensuring a smooth, lawful, and timely transition in the best interest of Indian boxing,' he added.
Acting under the guidance of World Boxing, the committee has already completed a majority of its administrative responsibilities. These include the smooth functioning and management of regular Boxing Federation of India (BFI) operations--spanning official, financial, and legal matters.
The committee has also ensured India's continued participation in international tournaments, resumed national training camps, and facilitated preparations for upcoming major international competitions. Discussions on the roadmap for conducting the elections have been held with the global governing body, as the committee continues to steer Indian boxing toward stability and progress.
'The performances of Indian boxers over the past three months, since the Interim Committee took charge, have not only been applauded by the World Body but also by top boxing nations across Asia. India has consistently been among the top three performing countries in major international tournaments during this period. It is a matter of immense pride that we've been able to deliver such results in a short span of time. This progress is a clear reflection of what a transparent system and committed governance can achieve in driving the growth and excellence of the sport,' Col. Malik further added.
The principle of autonomy of the National Federation remains paramount, as recognized by the global governing structure of the sport. It is worth recalling that a similar committee formed by the IOA in the past was set aside by the Delhi Court, which upheld the federation's autonomy. In the current context too, the only challenges to a smooth transition stem from ongoing legal proceedings--issues that require focused resolution without undermining the functioning of the interim body. The Interim Committee remains committed to upholding this autonomy while ensuring all steps are aligned with legal, administrative, and international expectations. (ANI)

"Done For The Series": Ben Stokes Dishes Out No-Nonsense Sledging At Shubman Gill. This Happens Next
India Test captain Shubman Gill has had a series to remember so far against England, particularly when it comes to his performance with the bat. Gill slammed a combined 585 runs in the first two Tests, slamming scores of 269, 161, and 147. However, Gill failed to contribute much in his two innings in the Lord's Test. England captain Ben Stokes chipped in with some sledging towards the Indian captain on Day 4 of the Lord's Test, taunting Gill by saying he's "done for the series". Gill came out to bat with India at 41/2 in the final session of Day 4, chasing a target of 193 on a tricky Lord's pitch. Stokes had his verbal punches ready to be thrown at Gill as he walked out to bat. "600 runs and he's done for this series. 600 runs is enough for this fella," said Stokes to his teammates, taking aim at Gill. "600 runs and he is done for the series." #BenDuckett throws some cheeky comments while bowling, will #ShubmanGill silence him with a strong statement by tour's end? Will #TeamIndia seize control on Day 5 and take a 2-1 lead in this thrilling Test series? #ENGvIND... — Star Sports (@StarSportsIndia) July 13, 2025 Unfortunately for Gill, he could not contribute much. Gill endured a shaky nine-ball stay at the crease, surviving a close call before getting out leg-before-wicket (LBW) to Brydon Carse for just 6 runs. India vs England, 3rd Test Day 4: As it happened India suffered a dramatic top-order slump to set up a thrilling finale to the third Test against England at Lord's on Sunday. The tourists had the upper hand after dismissing England for just 192 in their second innings, with off-spinner Washington Sundar taking 4-22, including the wickets of Joe Root, Jamie Smith and England captain Ben Stokes on Day 4 of the Lord's Test. That left India needing 193 to go 2-1 up in this five-match series after both teams made 387 in their first innings. India, however, collapsed to 58-4 at stumps, with the tourists requiring a further 135 runs to win on Monday's final day. Yashasvi Jaiswal was out for a seven-ball duck, skying a hook off express fast bowler Jofra Archer to wicketkeeper Jamie Smith. Karun Nair got out lbw to Brydon Carse with India captain Shubman Gill, who had already scored a double hundred and two centuries this series, falling in similar fashion. And in the last over of the day's play, Stokes bowled nightwatchman Akash Deep to raucous cheers from the home crowd. But India opener KL Rahul, fresh from his first-innings score of exactly 100, was still there on 33 not out following several typically elegant boundaries.

Sunil Gavaskar Left Fuming As Joe Root Survives Controversial DRS Call: 'No Way...'
Legendary Indian cricket team batter Sunil Gavaskar blasted the ball-tracking technology after Joe Root survived a review during Day 4 of the third Test between England and India on Sunday. During the 38th over of England's second innings, Root was hit on his pads by a ball from Siraj and the Indian players were convinced that he was out. While the umpire signalled not-out, Siraj and captain Shubman Gill decided to go for the review. Replays showed that although the leg stump was completely visible at the time of impact, the ball moved quite a bit and it was ruled 'umpire's call'. However, Gavaskar was not happy with the dismissal as Siraj and the rest of the team was left disappointed. "You're saying it was going to kiss the leg stump? There's no way. It was knocking the leg stump off. The only good thing is that India have not lost the review," Gavaskar said on commentary. Similar sentiments were echoed by former England batter Jonathan Trott as well. "I am flabbergasted. Having looked at that replay, I thought it was crashing into the inside part of the leg stump. Watching it in real time, I couldn't believe it was missing," Trott added on air. Coming to the match, Washington Sundar picked up two crucial wickets with his off-breaks in the second session to leave England at 175 for 6 at tea on the fourth day of the third Test on Sunday. Washington (2/13), who bowls off-breaks, cleaned up first-innings centurion Joe Root (40) to break England's 67-run stand for the fifth wicket with skipper Ben Stokes and then rattled the off stump of Jamie Smith (5) in the 47th over. England's lead is similar to their current second innings score. At the break, Stokes was batting on 27 with Chris Woakes on 8 at the other end. In the morning session, Mohammed Siraj struck twice while Akash Deep and Nitish Kumar Reddy took a wicket each as England reached 98 for 4 at lunch. Earlier, India were bowled out for 387 in their first innings on Friday, matching England's total.
