Saturday Group to mark 57th anniversary with exhibit in Mandaluyong
The group of Filipino artists will feature works from numerous members, including Ronnie Bercero, Franklin Caña, Daisy Carlos, Salvador Ching, Buds Convocar, Nida Cranbourne, Jonathan Dangue, Anna De Leon, Robert Deniega, and Ysa Gernale.
Also showcasing their works are Maryrose Gisbert, Amado Hidalgo, Celeste Lecaroz, Francis Nacion, Roel Obemio, Carlo Ongchangco, Anthony Palo, Tessie Picaña, Omi Reyes, Joy Rojas, Eman Santos, Aner Sebastian, Sheila Tiangco, Magoo Valencia, Lydia Velasco, Joseph Villamar, Jik Villanueva, Migs Villanueva, Gene Artango-Villasper, Inna Nanep-Vitasa, Chewy Yap, and Melissa Yeung Yap.
'The anniversary exhibit is a continuation of the long-time tradition established by the esteemed pillars of the Saturday Group,' Saturday Group president Salvador Ching said in a statement.
He added that the show is also 'a showcase of the diverse and unique styles of our present membership.'
The exhibition aims to demonstrate the group's advocacy to provide a creative space for member-artists and share their works with Filipino art enthusiasts.
The '57' exhibition is located at Gallery BiG, 4L, Main Wing, Shangri-la Plaza, Mandaluyong City, and will run from July 26 to August 9. —Carby Rose Basina/JCB, GMA Integrated News

'The Clash': Adelle Yu says she still feels like a winner
Adelle Yu is the type to keep her head held high. The singer from Cotabato City is the latest hopeful to be eliminated from 'The Clash' but she says she still feels like a winner. 'I think I would want to circle back to my core. Because I will not deny, I'm just a human being, it will affect me, make me feel sad at some point. For Adelle, the biggest challenges in her journey were the vocal conditioning and the pressure of the competition as she thinks 'about how to get the attention of the judges of the judges, 'yung mga tao, pano mo ma-touch 'yung hearts nila through your song.' Meanwhile, her biggest achievement was to be seen by audiences which is something 'that will live on for the rest of my life.' 'In-allow nila 'ko to be me, to be authentic to myself, to the sound that I have,' she said. Adelle is also thankful for the support of her home province. She said she's surprised at her social media presence, and that certain videos get high views. ''Yung outpouring of support, para siyang understatement for me. It's more of parang, finally, I've been heard. And finally, I'm seen,' Adelle said. 'It's been years and lagi akong nagta-try,' she added. 'I think that's why nabansagan din ako ng 'The Unstoppable Diva' because no matter the circumstance, I've been through a lot, and I mean a lot. But every time I hold the microphone and I perform onstage in front of hundreds of thousands of people, naiiba eh, parang nadadala ako sa other dimension.' Should she have won, Adelle said she would visit her grandparents' resting places as they never saw her on 'The Clash,' have a concert, and release an album. In a previous interview, Adelle told GMA News Online that she chose the song 'Angels Brought Me Here" by Guy Sebastian to describe her journey because she did not expect to compete in 'The Clash 2025.' As much as she had wanted to join before, she said she was not in the right mindset and had other priorities like her family and work. 'Parang hindi siya ina-allow ng pagkakataon until today. Philippine Pavilion unveils 'Soil-beings (Lamanlupa)' at Venice Architecture Biennale in Italy
The Philippine Pavilion has opened its doors to the public at the 19th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia in Italy with an exhibition titled 'Soil-beings (Lamánlupa).' The exhibition curated by Renan Laru-an and featuring the work of German-Filipino artist Christian Tenefrancia Illi aims to challenge traditional architectural perspectives by presenting soil not as a mere material, but as a dynamic, living entity. It reimagines the foundational relationship between architecture and soil, shifting focus from structure to the underlying substrate. The exhibition also aims to foster more reciprocal and ethical relationships with the earth, inviting architects, designers, and the public to engage with soil as an active participant in shaping the built environment. At the heart of the exhibition is 'Terrarium,' an installation by Illi, which is composed of nearly 1,000 soil tiles gathered from various Philippine landscapes. According to a press release, Terrarium is the culmination of Illi's months of research, collaboration, and site-specific experimentation across the Philippines and beyond.
